We visited Sandals Grande Antigua in March (into early April). We cannot praise the hotel and the staff enough.
We stayed in the Sunset Bluff rooms (club level) which was a lovely size with plenty of space and a lovely balcony overlooking the resort and views of the ocean. The rooms were cleaned and restocked every morning and on the odd occasion where we had drunk a particular bottle, a quick call to the concierge and they delivered a new one almost immediately.
The food was fantastic. It was really easy to find space at the various restaurants and the menu ordering was a lovely change to buffet style all inclusive. Breakfast offered a range of locations, a few buffet options but our favourite was Eleanor’s where the menu ordering options were first class.
Evening options are again wide and varied and on the last night we did opt for the candlelight dinner on the beach which was a great end to the holiday.
The pools were lovely, although we did spend more time at the smaller main pool rather than the large one as we preferred a quieter day. Both have swim up bars and great atmosphere, just depends on your like. There are also a number of smaller pools around the resort but these do not have bars but tend to be closer to your room which is always well stocked.
It would be wrong not to touch on the towels and sun loungers… First off, there are plenty of loungers across the resort, but….. a significant number get reserved very early. This is either by butlers or other guests. These tend to be those in prime spots but if you do not mind being set back a bit or a bit further up the beach then there really won’t be any issues.
The beach is lovely. The sea was nice and warm and there was plenty to do. The included activities were all great. Snorkelling was out on a nearby reef which was 10 mins away by boat and included. The trip lasts about an hour a runs 3 times a day. We also used the kayaks, paddle boards but not the hobby cats. There was always plenty to availability and never a wait. We didn’t partake in the free scuba diving but a lot of people did and loved it.
The greatest asset to the resort is not the pools; the beach; the food and drink or the countless activities, it is the staff. We couldn’t fault any. The attentiveness was first class and their attention to detail was fantastic. They really are an absolute credit to resort.
We will return to Sandals and can see why so many people keep going back… a fantastic holiday where we were treated like royalty from the moment we checked in to the minute we left.

Relaxing Vacation

“We have done a couple of Sandals resort previously in Jamaica and wanted to try something different off the main island so we chose Antiqua. The resort definitely needs some upgrades but it is at least clean. We had a pool walkout room in the Oleander building and it was in the perfect location. I loved that it had its own private pool for the building. Very quiet and relaxing. The beaches were beautiful but you do have to get your chairs early. It is a public beach so it is busy when ships are in but those folks rent chairs from vendors beyond Sandals property. Vendors were polite and never were a bother. The staff was hit or miss. Some were very polite and some were grumpy. Wait staff I felt were a bit slow. We constantly had to ask for refills for water and other drinks when they were simply standing around. We didn’t use the main pool so unless the younger couples were there the majority of the people we saw were 55+. We were a little disappointed by the food. When you pay that kind of money for these types of resorts you should be getting better quality meats. Cheap cut steaks and fatty ribs/wings. Mario’s Italian restaurant was by far the best restaurant on the property in my opinion. Pasta was excellent and so is the appetizer bar. My husband said that it had the better steaks then the steak restaurant OK Corral. Overall it was still a beautiful week to just relax and unwind. Excited to go to a different Sandals next year. ”
Beautiful island but dated property and service

“Although a lovely vacation overall this property and their service standards are not what we’re used to from Sandals. We have been to the St Lucia Grande twice and Curocao once both with the Butler over the water bungalows and beach side bungalows and every dollar we spent was worth the service and luxury. Unfortunately that is not the case at this property. Very dated bungalows and the service is lacking tremendously. Although I would return to this beautiful island I would never spend the money for the upgrades here because they simply don’t meet our expectations.”

“Our week at Sandals Grand Antigua was exactly what we had hoped for……tranquil and serene. We enjoyed every moment. The purpose of writing this review is to aid those who are considering staying at this resort. As with everything in life there are positives,as well as,areas to improve upon.
Pros of resort
1. Everyone is extremely kind.
2. It is a great resort for couples wanting to spend quality time together.
3. Quiet and not a party resort.
4. Staff members that deserve a special recognition
1. A very special young lady, Taerola who works at Mario’s. She was top notch and exceptional in all areas. Attentive, professional, and personable. We enjoyed her so much that we even went back our last night and requested to be seated in her section.
2. Samuel served us our beach candlelight dinner and was fun, professional, and a very nice young man.
3. Alex, a member of our Butler crew, who was a total delight to work with.
5. There is absolutely no hustling to do time share like other resorts. It was refreshing not to have to deal with that.
6. Mario’s antipasto/salad bar was incredible. It was so good we came back three nights. A five star experience for us.
7. Spa experience was exceptional for my husband. He said it was the best massage of his life. He regrets not getting the masseuse name.
Areas of note that potential visitors should know.
1. The resort is lovely and was satisfactory for us but note that it is an older resort. Some might say a bit dated.
2. IF reserving the Rondoval on the beach it is important to note that the shower is over the tub. No doors, no curtain. Now it wasn’t a problem for us BUT if you are staying with a parent, friend,or your child it could be an awkward situation.
3. If you are looking for a party atmosphere this is not your resort. It is a resort that is perfect for couples that are maybe 40 and up.
4. Housekeeping was just okay. I had to ask for dishes to be taken away after they sat for two days. We also had to ask on two days of our stay to be serviced at night because they hadn’t cleaned during the day which we were at the pool/beach from 9:00-3:00. (Yes, we left tips every day).
5. If you are a beach person. Be aware that it is a public beach so there are many trying to sell goods and services the entire time.
6. Note that we prepaid for the spa massage before arrival and at check in we were told since we prepaid we couldn’t apply a $200 credit we were given at booking. We would have to book additional services, which we weren’t interested in doing. So we lost the credit which was disappointing.
My effort in writing this review is to praise the positives, as well as, assist those who may want honest feedback on our experience. We loved our stay at the Grand Antigua and would definitely return.”

“The resort is lovely however it is huge and getting from rooms in the towers and over on the "Mediterranean" area, as well as the rooms up more on the cliff etc. in the "Caribbean" area makes for a long walk to the restaurants, beach, large pool etc. After a few days my husband found a route to our room that avoided all of the stairs. It was a slightly longer walk, however I appreciated not having to navigate 20 steps to and from our building entrance from the pool, restaurants , beach etc.
Overall, the resort could benefit from care to safety for older travellers.
The grounds were stunning. Beautiful gardens with fireplace areas after dinner and the lighting after dark was so well done.
The food was good. Buffet at the Bayside and Mario's were very good. There was a great variety at the buffet.
Barefoot by the Beach" was our fave dinner. We went twice. Bayside had a nice dinner menu as well. We chose not to go to a couple of the restaurants. Not a fan of sushi and we figured we could get ribs etc. at home. The only reservation we could get for Eleanor's for dinner was 8:30 p.m. Too late for us. If you can contact the resort ahead of time for reservations, I would suggest doing so.
Kimono's was a nice evening out. The ambience was lovely and we enjoyed the chef's performance, however we found the food to be under-seasoned.
The Drunken Duck was nice. Food was decent. My Bangers and Mash were good. My husband was glad to be able to get a Guiness. I was hoping the menu would include a Scotch Egg. Maybe the chef could add that in the future.
We never made it to lunch or to enjoy the crepes since it was too easy to overdo breakfast!
Our room was nice. One review stated it was dated. It was a bit, but I would prefer the mahogany furniture to some minimalist ,cold and ultra modern decor. We had a lovely rain shower that appeared to be recently installed. My concern as a senior was the lack of grab bars for safety. Again, as a senior, the commode was very low with no handrails for assistance. Since we are an aging society with lots of baby boomers who are now travelling, I would suggest that some accommodations for safety issues would be a really good idea.
As a Canadian, the idea of paying $30 and $40 U.S for a t-shirt even for a children's shirt for young children and grandchildren.
We didn't take much U.S. money with us..just enough for tips for cabs etc. More USD would be good to have for the little shops on the beach where shirts, hats, beach bags etc. were much more affordable.
We had an issue with chairs at the pool and beach. Every morning they were all covered with towels and stayed that way without people using them. One day we put our towels and books on the chairs we found. When we came back after about a half hour the books and towels were gone. They showed up the next day on another chair. I think there must be rules for this issue.
The spa was delightful but be aware that your 60 minute spa massage costs $200 USD. It was very relaxing but I wouldn't spend it again.
Overall we had a lovely vacation. I hope the resort management will make the effort to address some of the issues we faced.

“We came back a week ago to us Antigua is so beautiful we have been here 6 times
Sandals location is perfect on a pure white sandy beach surrounded by lush green gardens ,our 15 day stay here was amazing our butlers Hunter Cori and June
were amazing did everything we asked for and beyond must mention Tanya Lea what a lovely girl she is even though she wasn’t our butler this year she made a effort to come and see us also the wine manager Jamie an outstanding young man who should be proud of himself .Hotel itself does need some renovations which I believe is being sorted out apart
From that everything in
Our opinion is perfect so much so we have booked next year to return”

“My wife and I spent 10 amazing nights at the Sandals Grande Antigua.
One of the restaurants we dined at during our trip was the OK Corral. The staff went above and beyond and kept our group very well looked after. The food was amazing and the service was fantastic. Thank you to the wonderful team that looked after us - Jacalli, Lotoya, Sherma, Jamano, Steneel, Jaleel, Karincia, John, and Malik. You all made our experience so much better than we ever expected.
We love the Sandals resorts and highly recommend Sandals Grande Antigua!”

“Really enjoyed Sandals Antigua. The staff were attentive, joyful and engaging. Entertainment was great- I loved the shows they had every night. Alot of talented singers and dancers performed each night. Only thing I would say- ran out of certain things: bananas, and blanco tequila (don't like cuervo - i left that in HS). Dairy alternatives. Other than that- I really had a very nice and relaxing time and will be back.”

“We have just returned from a two week stay at this resort. We had a wonderful stay and rest but we have some feedback to share which we feel important to anyone choosing a long haul stay here. The resort is dated in parts and we kept getting told that they have plans to update and some works were being seen to whilst we were there. This should not be used as an excuse when we have and many other guests have paid a lot of money to visit from the UK. We also found that the food and drink constantly ran out several day and evenings in a row and this isn't good enough in a '5' star resort!
The resort is an early starter resort and if you're not an early bird then you will find a problem getting a sun bed on the beach and the pool. I am an early bird and enjoyed watching the resort wake up and listening to the waves whilst getting my beach bed but I was always joined by the Butlers (a service supplied by Sandals) and they at times reserved most of the beds by 6am. One day I counted 32 beds by the main pool had gone by 6am and most of the beach beds so you have no chance unless you pay an extra £1400 for two weeks (we costed for our trip) on top of your holiday cost for a service which is just ridiculous and to be honest not worth it . We spoke to a Manager whilst there and she listened and for one day it seemed there were less reserved beds but it returned to the same a day later. There should be a section by the pool and beach for this service and the rest first come, first served. The resort is big enough to do this.
I want to give a shout out to two beach and ground staff that I engaged with each morning and watched how hard they work every day with a smile on their faces and cheerful conversation. I enjoyed talking to them each day and wish them well. Thank you Mika and DJ!
We found the majority of the staff very friendly and happy to assist but we also found a lot that seemed to be 'just going through the motions' and were not interested in chatting and at times quite rude. If you had a problem or asked for something I found at times I was made to feel like I was a nuisance and it was me being rude when I was checking or asking for something politely and just found this uncomfortable at times especially when met with the main pool bar staff or the Bayside coffee machine staff then talking in their language and laughing - this isn't acceptable.
The resort has a selection of restaurants and we enjoyed all of them however the booking system on the APP didn't work and you have to book ASAP otherwise you'll be disappointed. We found the food average taste wise but there was a good selection. We particularly liked Marios and Bella Napoli.
Our Mediterranean garden walk out room was wonderful and we cannot fault our room and the ladies that looked after our room for the duration of our stay. Brandy would knock most nights and check we needed anything and our room was daily restocked and perfectly cleaned each day and we loved and appreciated this each time we returned from the day.
There is a lot to do at this resort and we especially liked the layout of the resort and the choices you have to either have a more louder time at the main pool with activities all day or a quiet day at the choice of 3 other pools which were in the particularly pretty garden surroundings. The tour offerings on the beach are a good range and we did the Island tour with Kenny and horse riding with Tony.
If you stay in Antigua then a day trip to Barbuda is a must. A beautiful Island and has lots of investment and lots happening so do go and visit. The Barbuda ferry is easy to book.
We wish the resort staff well and thank you for a good stay and hope some points from guests will be taken on board as you can pass over some things but when they keep happening it can start to grate on a guests stay. We think the sun bed situation, the food and drink shortages and some of the 'going through the motions' attitude with some staff should be addressed. Aside from that we had a wonderful stay and we are grateful for visiting.”

“March 2026 for my Wife’s Birthday
Booked the Sandals Grande Antigua
Staff so welcoming
Except for the first day when my wife got shouted at in the coffee shop not a great start to her birthday.
A bit disappointed that Sandals did nothing for her birthday even though we had a request put in by our tour operator
We stayed in room 816 with a swim up pool it was lovely room spacious and newly refurbed
The grounds are so lovely and it’s such a big hotel
Food was good and we visited most of the restaurants Mario’s is a must
Weather was beautiful and we always enjoyed our walk down the beach every day late afternoon
We met some really nice people especially our friends in room 813
About 4 days into our 10 day stay a Sandals representative came around the pool talking to guests and my wife spoke to her and said that she was disappointed that Sandals hadn’t made an effort for her birthday then within 2 hours a knock on the door and a card and ice bucket with a bottle of what they call champagne was in our room
At first we thought what a kind gesture until we looked in our mini bar and noticed they had taken the £2.99 bottle of brut out of the fridge and put it in the ice bucket we couldn’t believe it
Another bad experience was
When we arrived we asked the Sandals guy if we could smoke he said yes on your balcony as long as your keep your door shut
That was perfect for us
Until 3 days before departure and a English guest above our room started shouting down to us about smoking at first we just said ok
But 2 nights before we left he shouted down again and we ignored him so he then rang down to reception stating we was smoking weed on the balcony
So you can imagine when hotel reception came to our room we was not happy that we had been accused of this
We have never smoked weed in our lives so that was very upsetting
Apart from those 2 experiences we enjoyed our stay in Antigua and made some good friends especially 813”

“This trip was the best! We absolutely loved the bar service from Joy and Kadeem. So friendly and personal. The rooms were spotless and the view was amazing. We did the complementary wine tasting experience with Keon and Holden aka KFC and it was hilarious and we learned a lot. I had a facial from the spa which was excellent. Everyone was so friendly and went above and beyond. We did the free snorkeling twice with Jamal and Danielle and saw so many cool things. The food was great. It was so relaxing. The entertainment team was fun. We took a private taxi to Shirley Heights with Dev and he was fantastic and very reasonable and even had complimentary champagne. Would give this trip a 10/10.”

“We returned back to Sandals Antigua after we had our honeymoon in 2002 after 24 years we were shocked with how bad this resort has become the Caribbean side was dated and in need of updating, 99% of the food was served cold the room service took so long over an hour was also cold but the best bit was we paid a premium for a room with Butler Service we felt intimidated and bullied to give them dollars for a non existent service as detailed on their website certain guests were tipping them daily to make sure they got a special service at the end of the day we overheard Butlers demanding $400 each bearing in mind you have three butlers this is complete corruption in cahoots with the Managers my advice be careful when paying for a room with this service because when the Butlers do not receive the expected tip they are rude and aggressive.”

“. Sandals Antigua is a beautiful, well-kept resort with pleasant, happy employees. Everyone greeted us with a smile and was accommodating to all our needs and requests.
A special shoutout to Chef Jason at Kimonos, who entertained us with great enthusiasm while serving delicious food. Also, Mesha at the front desk, who graciously provided an impromptu photo session—she truly has a talent for photography. And Steven, who gave us a sailing lesson on the Hobie Cats, was incredibly patient and helpful.
There were always chairs available at both the pool and the beach, which is quite unusual for a resort. The food and drinks were excellent and prepared just the way we liked. excellent overall experience in our opinion.”

“We recently stayed at Sandals Grande Antigua to celebrate my husband’s 60th birthday, and unfortunately the experience did not live up to expectations.
I had arranged a birthday dinner and celebration in advance, including specific instructions that decorations and cake were to be part of the dinner on the actual birthday. Despite confirming this ahead of time, everything was delivered to our room several days early instead.
From there, we spent a significant amount of time during our vacation trying to fix what should have been a simple and important detail. We spoke with multiple staff members and managers, received conflicting information, and were ultimately told things that didn’t make sense (including being asked to store the cake ourselves and later being told it couldn’t be used). While a replacement was eventually provided, the process took far too much time and energy during what was supposed to be a special celebration.
Beyond the birthday issues, there were consistent service and operational problems throughout the stay:
Frequent shortages at bars and dining locations (including basic items)
Difficulty accommodating food allergies or even simple meal modifications
Delays with reservations and inconsistent service
Pool and beach areas lacking towels mid-morning
The resort itself also felt dated, and what stood out most was the overall lack of attentiveness and follow-through. We often felt like we were managing our own experience rather than being taken care of.
We also spoke with several other guests during the week who shared similar frustrations, which suggests this was not an isolated experience.
After returning home, we shared our feedback and were offered a minimal points gesture, which did not feel appropriate given the nature of the issues or the importance of the occasion.
This trip was meant to be a meaningful milestone celebration, and it was disappointing that so much time was spent dealing with problems instead.”
Fantastic experience, but room for improvement

“FANTASTIC experience and have already booked our return. Staff all very pleasant, hard working and helpful, quality of restaurants excellent, room lovely, pool peaceful (if you want fun and frolics, the main pool’s for you; I’m boring: I like peace and a good book during the day!), facilities good, my wife enjoyed her spa experience very much - all in all, a wonderful holiday. Met a few returning guests, one couple were on their seventh visit, so that’s always refreshing to hear. As I say, we’ve already booked our return.
THAT all said, there’s always room for improvement, and for what it’s worth, here’s a few pointers to make the customer experience even more special…
1. The team in the Caribbean Club Lounge need to swallow some happy pills. They were rarely engaging, and I never looked forward to going in there. I’ve said how helpful and friendly the staff are: the Club Lounge is the exception, and it needs to change. Just make people feel welcome. By the way, other guests mentioned the same thing during general chit chat.
2. Caribbean Club Lounge again, I’m afraid. I needed to cancel a planned dining booking, and re-arrange. It was simple: cancel my Saturday booking at Kimono, and rearrange for Monday, and in doing so, cancel the original booking I’d made for Monday - we’ve always enjoyed a Kimono experience. So when we duly turned up to Kimono on Monday there was no booking for us, our original booking was still live (even though we’d cancelled), AND they had cancelled a booking at Eleanor’s for Tuesday. What I’d asked wasn’t rocket science, but they got it completely wrong.
3. My wife asked for some slippers to be delivered to the room. She was assured they’d be there shortly, but they arrived two days later, after a couple of nudges. Again, I’m told that others had similar issues - asking for things, being assured they’d be delivered, but weren’t.
THE above are constructive criticisms, and didn’t in any way impact on our enjoyment of our stay. But they need to be highlighted, and hopefully taken on board and dealt with.
But a wonderful holiday, and we look forward to our return. Thank you Sandals Antigua.”
