Our stay at The Colony Club was incredible. We went on a family holiday, consisting of three generations, and we all loved it.
The hotel is beautiful and so well looked after. The pools are clean and warm and were mostly very empty so you felt like you had the whole place to yourself!
All of the staff - but particularly the staff in the restaurant and bars - were so friendly and welcoming. The buffet breakfast was delicious every morning and the items would change slightly every day so you had different options. The French toast and omelettes were incredible!
The beach is absolutely beautiful and has plenty of room so that you felt like you had the whole place to yourself. The sea was incredible and you could snorkel from the shore. The addition of the pontoon you can swim to and other water sports meant the sea was our favourite place to be!
One slight word of warning - we did get bitten a lot. The hotel was fogged while we were there so I think it was worse than normal but it would be wise to travel with plenty of insect repellent.
Its’ location just outside of Holetown is wonderful with so many great restaurants nearby.

“All concerns about this now being part of The Marriott Group evaporated from the moment we arrived. Karene and her colleagues excelled in every sense. The welcome was lovely, rooms amazing, staff jolly, friendly and helpful, and the facilities were perfect. We had three swim-up rooms, all were in a row (as requested). The room refurbs are fantastic, such high quality while retaining the rustic nature of the hotel. Soft furnishings were calming and comfortable, the bed, linen and towels were luxurious. Bathrooms spacious with quality fittings and lovely cosmetics. Cleaning was thorough and regular. Food was good, drinks were generous and service was exceptional. The beach was always clean, and the sunbeds have lovely new cushions and matching umbrellas, we easily got 6 in a row at respectable times of the day. My adult children loved the water sports and swimming platforms, also the gym and swim-up bar! The gardens are beautiful and the variety of pools allows for different levels of tranquility. The location of the hotel offers a nice walk into Holetown either by beach or road. I made a special request of the hotel for which they obliged and excelled. The only downside was we had to leave, definitely the best holiday we’ve had. Well done Colony Club, especially Karene who made our trip so special. Thank you.”
Loving it…yet again!

Lovely Beachfront Hotel with Brilliant Staff, but Restaurant Service Needs Work

“Overal
We had a very enjoyable stay at this clean, friendly and well-located beachfront hotel on the west coast of Barbados, but the slow lunch and dinner service was the one major disappointment.
Pros and Cons
• Pros: Excellent beachfront location, friendly and memorable staff, clean rooms and guest areas, well-maintained beach, strong facilities and good breakfast choice.
• Cons: Lunch and dinner service was very slow, birds were noticeable in the open-sided restaurant areas, and mosquitoes were present as it was the rainy season unfortunately.
What We Loved
The location is excellent: right on the beach, around 40 minutes from the airport, and close enough to Holetown to be able to walk along the beach. There are bus stops directly outside the hotel, and the local buses are cheap ($3.50 BBD per trip), frequent and a fun way to get around. (We liked the Reggae bus)
The staff were the standout part of the stay. Everyone we dealt with was friendly, helpful and welcoming, and several staff members remembered guests by name, which gave the hotel a warm and personal feel. Special thanks to Nigel, Neil, Brian, Shanice, Shamar, Thomas, Destiny, Danielle and Rhea, who all helped make our stay more enjoyable. They should all be Marriott brand ambassadors!
Our Ocean Front room on the third floor was clean, spacious and close enough to the beach to hear the waves which was very relaxing. Housekeeping came twice daily, bottled water was supplied each day, and the air conditioning and ceiling fan were essential in the heat and humidity.
Cleanliness and Beach
The hotel was very clean overall, including the restaurant, reception areas, guest toilets, pool and beach. The beach was beautifully maintained each morning and evening, with sunbeds set out early and the area kept tidy throughout the day.
The only cleanliness-related issue was birds in the open-sided restaurant areas, especially at breakfast and lunch. Mosquitoes were also present, so repellent is definitely worth bringing, although the hotel does spray/fog the grounds weekly and provides advance warning of doing so.
Food and Service
Breakfast was good, with plenty of choice and an omelette station, and because it was self-service there were no delays. The food at lunch and dinner was also good quality and served hot when it arrived.
The biggest issue was the speed of lunch and dinner service. On one occasion at lunch, six of us waited 65 minutes for starters, only for starters and mains to arrive all together, and we regularly waited around 45 to 50 minutes between courses even when the restaurant was not busy.
This was particularly difficult with two children under eight, and several guests seemed to eat out because of the long wait times. The problem appeared to be kitchen speed or capacity rather than the quality of the food.
Facilities and Getting Around
The hotel has a strong range of facilities, including watersports, several pools, a swim up bar, a gym, spa, nature garden, poolside bars, the Laguna restaurant and the Rum Vault with a tasting menu (at extra cost). The cushioned sunbeds around the beach and pool were also good quality.
We hired a seven-seater car for three days through Ballantyne Rentals Inc., which was competitively priced and worthwhile. It was delivered and picked up from the hotel. If you want to explore the island rather than stay by the pool or beach every day, hiring a car makes a big difference.
Would We Return?
Yes, we would consider returning because the staff, location, cleanliness and beach setting were all excellent. However, the hotel really needs to improve lunch and dinner service times, especially for families travelling with young children.
Tip: If you are on a half-board package, it is helpful that the hotel allows you to use it for lunch or dinner depending on your plans, but you may still want to eat out some evenings if service remains slow.”
First class resort and holiday overall

“Outstanding holiday - we loved Barbados and this was made all the better by the Colony Club. Staff were all amazing with everyone taking the time to stop and talk - definitely worth jointing them in their cocktail evening to chat with the staff leaders and get their recommendations. Property was refurbished last year as part of the acquisition by Marriott and it shows with the decor feeling fresh though traditional. We had a family room with two Queen beds and although the bathroom felt a little tight and the toilet was in the shower room the overall room was a good size with a lovely patio area leading to the pool.
We had bed and breakfast but also ate most lunches and a few dinners there. Food was good but not inexpensive (our overall take for the island to be fair).
We were there in rainy season (it didn’t rain much and when it did it didn’t matter) and the place was very quiet - certainly no fighting over sunbeds either by the pool(s) or beach. Non motorised Watersports included which also included the doughnuts pulled by a boat!
Overall, highly recommended.”

“Really good ! But….We stayed there 3 years ago for 3 days after a Ritz Carlton Cruise (highly recommended if you are loaded, cruise i mean) had wonderful room with ground floor and wonderful swim up patio with nice furniture on said patio. Returned this past May after it became MarriotBonvoy. Booked and paid months in advance and reserved and paid extra for the ground floor swim up room as i have 70 year old knees and a wobbly walk. Was told at check in the room we reserved (so we were told) and paid extra for was unavailable (?). Had second floor room with nice balcony and beautiful view, As i am glass half full guy and happy to be able to afford nice vacay i accepted it good with good nature. Upon return, all i good from Marriot was stonewalling. They claimed they opened a file and I would be happy with a discount on next trip , but it’s been a month and all i get is…..well stonewalling. Other than that, Mrs Lincoln, how was the play? Excellent! Believe all the accolades !!! We will return in April of ‘27,!! Breakfast is included and when a staffer saw me putting some croissants (best i ever had! You can smell them being fresh baked in afternoons ) and fruit to take to my GF, they rushed over and sealed up the plate and provided utensils!! In April/may when we were there we had no problem securing a beachfront chair umbrella setup! We took the water taxi where it stops at all marriot properties. It was worth doing for the beach and other property views , but one fly in ointment was on the last one we were “forced” of the boat and had to go to beach for 45 minutes. We would have rather stayed on boat which was anchored just off shore. Suppose they wanted us to purchase resort priced drinks. !!! All in all, very nice and planning on returning; may not pay extra for desired room though!”

“Colony Club is a truly fantastic hotel. From the moment you arrive, you’re made to feel welcome, the team are warm, friendly and incredibly efficient. Check-in was seamless and we were settled into our room within minutes, which set the tone for the whole stay.
We had visited before the refurbishment and loved it then, so were really interested to see the changes—and they’ve done a brilliant job. The bathrooms are now absolutely luxurious with lovely toiletries, and the bedrooms have been beautifully updated with thoughtful touches like a Nespresso machine, good quality teas and fine china crockery.
The grounds and facilities are beautiful, lush and tropical. There’s plenty of space to relax, with lots of comfortable sunbeds and access to a gorgeous beach. We travelled with teenage boys and the complimentary watersports were a huge hit, as were the paddle courts- definitely a highlight of the trip.
The restaurant was good, with a varied menu and live music on several evenings which added to the overall atmosphere. The Cocktails were wonderful. The location in Holetown is also a big plus, with plenty of great restaurants nearby for all budgets.
What really makes Colony Club stand out though is the staff. The level of service and genuine warmth from everyone we encountered made the stay extra special. We’ll definitely be back.”

“A very good stay at this smallish resort.
Standard breakfast buffet.
Good WiFi. Good bed and linens.
Plenty of beach loungers both sun and shade.
Caribbean water— smiles.
Only a twenty minute walk into town for dining off property.
Easy transport to and from BGI airport.”
Terrific top end hotel and one to look at for Barbados

“Treat as you find - I found the rooms, facilities and team at the colony outstanding. The premises have been completely refitted and look great and the whole team were incredibly friendly helpful and professional. Having stayed at many top end hotels this definitely is in keeping with a great hotel
In my view best pools and beach compared with others like coral reef and sandpiper
Strongly recommended”

“The staff was five-star across the board! Paul gave us a warm welcome, tour and checked with us regularly to see what we needed. Jillian is an amazing concierge and arranged the perfect outings. Sherfilia makes the best mohitos and mango coladas hands down. All the wait staff (especially Rose) were so attentive. Truly every staff member we interacted with was warm, friendly and efficient.
The food was good, with little bonuses like canapés, frozen grapes, and ice cream offered occasionally throughout the day.
The hotel is beautiful - designed and landscaped perfectly to enhance island tranquility and tropical beauty. Lots of water activities available onsite. It’s convenient to restaurants and shopping.
This stay was definitely top notch.”
Ok but overpriced

“Overall: I wouldn’t rate the hotel 4 stars. I would pick another hotel for my next stay.
Rooms: ok. Beds oddly made (duvet cover opening at top of bed where your face is, so your face touches the duvet is unhygienic…). Privacy not so great, could hear the neighbours whisking a spoon in their cup. Pool swim up for some rooms doesn’t feel appealing if you want privacy as there will be people on sunbeds in that area (I didn’t stay in one of those).
Restaurant and food generally: very expensive and quality not up to those price standards (eg soggy fries). Menu options also limited. Which is a shame as there is lovely Caribbean food! I have eaten much better and for way less in nearby beach eateries. Drinks good but also very expensive. Staff slow, I ordered a drink at the beach which I never received, ended up walking to the bar to order.
Small and private beach. Had an unpleasant encounter with one of the beach vendors that I had to report to the hotel staff for insulting me (solo female). Beach beds need more cleaning, lots of bird excrements.”
My stay is not off to the best start here.

“First let em say I love Barbados because of the people here. They are genuinely friendly! They are happy and have always made my time on the island feel special unlike some other Caribbean islands that seem to want your $ and for you to leave.
We are currently staying at this hotel. It’s definitely been updated and it’s nice. Just note: all the tile is porcelain look marble which cheapens it for a “Luxury Collection” property. The rooms are modern and we have a luxury ocean view (upgraded from an ocean view) and outside of the trees blocking the ocean it’s good. Our room is USD$3,500 for 5 nights.
The main issue I have has been the service. I know island time and all that but I have been to plenty of 5 star hotels with excellent service. Today we had to set up our own beach chairs and when I asked for help the woman just pointed and said “there are chairs over there.” We moved from the beach to the pool, finally flagged someone down to get a menu to order lunch and then that person never came back. 34 minutes later my husband finally walked to the bar to ask and they said we could order there. NOT 5 STAR.
We had similar issues last February at the St Regis Aurba. I wonder why Marriott is getting it so wrong on these so called luxury properties that don’t offer the service promised. They sure charge you the same rate.”
Lovely setting - shame about the restaurant.

“recently stayed at The Colony Club in Barbados and overall had a really enjoyable experience. The hotel itself is beautiful, the beach is stunning, and the rooms were very comfortable. Breakfast was acceptable. l thought for a 5 Star Hotel it would have been much better. The breakfast area felt quite small and could get a little crowded at times.
There were also some lovely touches throughout the day — ice cream or lollies being offered in the afternoon and fresh fruit brought around to guests relaxing on the sunbeds in the morning were both much appreciated.
Unfortunately, the biggest issue was the restaurant and food service. The staff seemed disorganised and sloppy at times. We asked four different members of staff for a room service menu one day and despite being told it would be sent to our room, it never arrived. Experiences like this became frustrating.
Housekeeping ladies sometimes did not arrive until 4 o’clock in the afternoon. Which made it difficult if you wanted to go back to your room for a little snooze.
If you’re choosing this hotel mainly for the food, I honestly wouldn’t recommend it. It’s a shame because everything else about the property is very good. I’m not sure Marriott are fully aware of the issues with the restaurant side of the hotel, but it’s something they really need to address.
This could easily have been a five-star review, but unfortunately the food let it down.
Would we stay again?… Yes, but we would eat out each evening.”
Lovely hotel but comes with issues

“We thought it was a lovely place - nice swim up room nice pools lovely beach all on hand - unfortunately the food was awful and the staff in restaurant not really meeting the sort of service you would expect from a hotel of this caliber and the money they are charging . We ate there a few times but went out to other hotels and restaurants that were far better - like the Cliff , Sandy lane , Lone star, the Muse. Tides etc the food and staff there were far more on the ball and seemed much more professional . It’s such a shame as it’s a lovely place they need a new head chef and experienced restaurant manager . This complaint is repeated several times in reviews I hope the management take action as they haven’t so far !!”
