“We had a wonderful stay at Tulemar Resort, and our concierge, Miguel, truly went above and beyond to make our experience seamless. He checked in with us every day, even coordinating the cleaning service around our schedule so we were never disturbed. He helped with food orders, restaurant reservations, excursions, and anything else we needed. Miguel was incredibly friendly, attentive, and always willing to help. His exceptional service made our stay even more enjoyable. We highly recommend Tulemar and especially Miguel!”

“Tulemar served as the ideal backdrop for our family getaway to Costa Rica. The entire resort was breathtaking, completely exceeding everything we had anticipated. Our bungalow offered stunning views of both the jungle and the ocean—watching monkeys play right from our balcony and taking in the gorgeous evening sunsets were absolute highlights. We owe a special thank you to our concierge, Miguel Leiva, for going above and beyond throughout our stay. Miguel was remarkably warm, professional, and attentive. He assisted us seamlessly both before and during our stay, happily accommodating us even when our plans required last-minute changes. His genuine kindness made us feel truly welcome. If you are on the fence about booking, don't hesitate. You will be in wonderful hands, and we are already looking forward to returning!”

  • Amazing resort

“This resort is truly stunning. The grounds are spectacular — we spotted howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, toucans, sloths, hummingbirds, and iguanas throughout our stay. The pools are lovely too, with the jungle pool being our favourite; it genuinely felt like stepping into a Jurassic Park scene. Every staff member we met was warm and helpful, particularly the buggy drivers. Given how sprawling the resort is, the buggy service turns out to be essential rather than a nice extra. Our concierge, Jorge, was on WhatsApp whenever we needed anything. As expected, dining on-site comes at a premium. We ate once at Tulecafe — the food was ok, but it was by far the priciest meal of our entire Costa Rica trip, and honestly not the standout dish of the holiday. Fortunately, plenty of restaurants are within walking distance. We particularly enjoyed Agua Azul and El Patio de Café Milagro, the latter serving what might be the best breakfast around. The private beach is a real highlight, offering complimentary sunbeds, boards, kayaks, and beachside food and drink service. Regarding accommodation: traveling as a family of three, the Tulemar villas were beyond our budget, so we booked a standard room, which suited our needs. Interestingly, it was the priciest room we booked anywhere in Costa Rica, yet arguably the least impressive room-wise — though the resort itself may have been the best overall. We decided the trade-off was worth it. We stayed in room 209, part of the standard rooms built as stacked pairs. In hindsight, we’d have preferred room 309 directly above — our upstairs neighbors were fairly loud dragging furniture around, and the higher floor likely offers better views too. A simple fix would be for the hotel to add felt pads to chair legs, since the scraping noise at night was quite disruptive. Like other reviewers have mentioned, the room really seems designed with couples in mind — just two dining chairs and two balcony chairs. It wasn’t the smallest room we’ve stayed in, but the layout was the least practical, with almost no storage space, so our belongings quickly cluttered the dining table. Echoing other feedback, the bathroom felt cramped and dated, and without any ventilation, it becomes hot and humid quickly. The balcony, however, was a genuine pleasure — we watched howler monkeys, toucans, and hummingbirds from there — though a larger coffee table would help. A couple of safety concerns stood out for families with young kids: the dining table’s square glass top sits at an awkward height (I kept bruising my thigh on it, which could pose a real hazard for a small child’s eye level), and the open patio corners could let a young child slip through easily.”

“Our family’s time in Costa Rica truly unforgettable. Tulemar was the prefer setting for our multi-family, multi-generational get-together. It was clean, quiet and just plain beautiful. And of course, a big part of why our time was so unforgettable was because of Miguel our concierge. He answered all our questions - both before we arrived and while at Tulemar - and offered fantastic suggestions to help us make the most of our time in Manuel Antonio. Above all, he was exceptionally friendly and kind. Our week exploring Tulemar and Manuel Antonio is one that we will always remembers”

  • Not as good as it used to be

“Sadly, Tulemar seems to be resting on its laurels. We just returned from our third stay and found that the property is becoming overbuilt and lacks the quiet intimacy that it once had. The resort has grown and has more conveniences which will be great for some travelers. There were a lot of families staying on the property and this is likely a good, convenient place to stay if you’re traveling with young children, given the many pools, restaurants and the easily accessible beach. Our concierge during our second visit in July 2024 was excellent; this time I heard from our concierge a couple of times through What’s App, once to ask if we wanted the room cleaned and an other asking if we needed anything. Maybe he was too busy helping the many families around us, but a more personal touch for three-time repeat guests would have been nice. Food from the TuleCafe was good and room service arrived quickly, although everything, including cocktails, arrives in to-go containers which feels a bit shabby. Margaritas tasted like they were made from commercial mixer rather than lime and Cointreau, and as mentioned arrived in plastic cups. After this stay we went on to the Osa Penninsula and stayed at a much nicer, quieter place with better food, outstanding service and a lower nightly rate. After three stays at Tulemar we don’t plan to return.”

“Tulemar exceeded all of our expectations. We were spoiled everyday by our concierge, Chris Madrigal and the maids that cared for our stunning house. The view was incredible overlooking the jungle and ocean. The resort has star fruit, coconut, and mango trees and the monkeys, and sloths were right on our porch. We also saw toucans, macaws, and parrots daily. It was truly a miraculous trip we will never forget. Thank you Tulemar!”

  • Paradise under siege

“Just returned from our third visit to Tulemar and, unfortunately, it will be our last. The resort used to be a jungle paradise. But they've steadily been chipping away at the jungle to build more luxury villas and multi-unit buildings. Every one represents fewer trees and other vegetation for the monkeys and other animals. Each new building spoils, a little bit more, the magic of the place. They are Florida-izing Tulemar. It's reached a point where the exotic bird cries compete with construction noise. It doesn't help that general congestion in Manuel Antonio means you hear traffic from the patios of what once was a secluded get-away. Meanwhile, as the jungle is hollowed out, the number of loud young children has multiplied. The resort's service has also markedly declined. In prior years our concierges were beyond helpful in all sorts of ways. This time around, we never met our "concierge" until he managed to show up at check-out, expecting a tip for I-don't-know-what. Room service delivered margaritas without no discernible tequila included. The beach is still spectacular -- a picture-perfect cove without a building in sight. I can't imagine it will stay that way. My wife took a walk to one far end of the beach and returned to say she'd seen surveyor's tape where the sand meets the wilderness. Once you can see any building from that beach, that will mark the end of Tulemar. We have vowed not to be there for that.”

“Tulemar was the absolute perfect ending to an incredible week in Costa Rica! After several adventure-packed days in La Fortuna, we loved being able to slow down, relax, and just enjoy how beautiful this place is. The views from our villa were incredible, and one of the highlights was watching monkeys playing right from our balcony. Our kids loved it, and it was one of those experiences that just felt so uniquely Costa Rica. What really made our stay exceptional as well was our concierge, Miguel. He was so kind, attentive, accommodating, and genuinely thoughtful throughout our entire stay. He was always available to help with anything we needed and made everything feel easy. You could tell he truly cared about making our family's stay special, and he absolutely did. We absolutely loved Costa Rica, and Tulemar was a huge part of what made the trip so memorable. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. And if you're lucky enough to have Miguel as your concierge, you're in wonderful hands!”

  • Disappointing stay at Tulemar

    4/10

    O3518CClaurad · Family · 2026-07-29

“Before and after your two-week tour of Costa Rica, we chose to stay in Room 209 at Tulemar Villas as a relaxing treat in what is marketed as a four-star luxury resort. Unfortunately, our experience did not live up to those expectations. Our room, which was advertised as accommodating four guests (we were a party of three), felt tired and poorly equipped. The bathroom was clearly in need of refurbishment, and there were only two dining chairs inside and two chairs on the balcony, despite the room being intended for four occupants. We were also provided with only two sets of towels on arrival. Storage was another issue. The wardrobe was extremely small with very few hangers, leaving nowhere practical to unpack or store our three large suitcases. There was also no complimentary bottled water in the fridge, which was disappointing after arriving tired, wet from the pouring rain, and looking forward to settling in. Small touches like these make a real difference in a resort of this standard. When we raised our concerns with the staff, they were sympathetic and explained that the rooms are individually owned, suggesting we pass our feedback on to the owner. We also asked if we could move rooms, but unfortunately the resort was fully booked. The resort itself is set within beautiful tropical gardens, which are undoubtedly a highlight. However, the steep terrain makes getting around quite challenging, and we found ourselves regularly relying on staff to transport us by buggy. From what we saw, the larger villas and houses appeared to be of a much higher standard, although their higher prices undoubtedly reflect this. Overall, we left disappointed. While the setting is stunning and the staff were helpful, the condition and facilities of our room fell well short of what we expected from a four-star luxury resort, and it did not provide the relaxing end to our Costa Rica holiday that we had hoped for.”

  • Excellence defined at Tulemar

“I’m trying to put into words what this last week at Tulemar and in Manuel Antonio meant to me. When you plan a vacation like this with your family you hope for certain things…location excellence, comfortable accommodations, attentive staff, good food… Tulemar delivers, and takes each of these to a new level. Our family of 4 stayed in unit 309, part of the Tule Villas. Our first morning we woke up to a visit from capuchin monkeys on our patio. Our balcony became my favorite spot to enjoy a variety of wildlife that primarily included 2 and 3 toed sloths. We also had several visits from adorable squirrel monkeys. On property we saw a variety of lizards, frogs and insects. The proximity to the Jungle Pool was fantastic, and we lounged here each day after our adventures. This property is uniquely laid out, and I loved how immersed we felt in nature. The shuttle that takes you throughout the property was wonderful and made navigating Tulemar a breeze. The private beach was beautiful! We also enjoyed time here daily. Our kids loved playing in the waves and boogie boarding. Food from Tulecafe and Victoria’s was delicious! The staff here go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need and the concierge service is priceless. Shout out to Jorge our concierge, who entertained my multiple questions leading up to our trip, and his help coordinating things throughout our stay. Our itinerary for the week was superb and we made the most of each day! Also Edwin, who shuttled us around was fantastic! Our kids loved chatting him up on the drive and he was just wonderful. I’m beyond grateful for the memories our family made at Tulemar, and I hope we are blessed to return again in the future. Pura Vida indeed!”

“We had the most amazing experience at Tulemar - the resort and accommodations were absolutely beautiful and fit my family of 6 perfectly! We loved the food at the Tulecafe, and spent tons of time on the beach (my son said one of his favorite beaches ever and that’s a tough decision since we’ve also been to Hawaii!!) While on property we got to see howler monkeys, white face capuchin monkeys, toucans and sloths (mama and baby sloth in the tree on the beach!) We were assigned a concierge, Miguel Leivas, who contacted me soon after my reservation was confirmed to connect and assist with anything I needed. He was available throughout our trip easily reachable via text or WhatsApp, and helped us plan some fantastic excursions - he was even able to assist with some of them at the last minute! It was so helpful to have a point person to easily reach with any questions or requests. I can’t recommend Tulemar resort enough - thank you to Miguel and Tulemar resort for making our first trip to Costa Rica absolutely unforgettable!”

“This place is paradise! It’s simply stunning. I traveled with my sister, our 81 year old mom, and my 18!year old daughter and her friend. We ALL loved it. Like much of Costa Rica, it’s hilly. But - there are shuttles to take you around whenever you need them! Alex and Johann will take excellent care of you! They are in golf carts and so busy and yet so helpful, friendly, and polite. We love them! Truly the people of Tulemar add to the natural beauty so that you cannot go wrong with this destination. I am in mourning now that I am home.”

Loved the pools and beach. Beach has chairs, umbrellas, towels, food/drink service. Tule Cafe was great for breakfast and lunch. Staff was very friendly and professional. Highly recommend the private chef service. Alessandro was amazing! Also loved the concierge service. “We just left Tulemar on a family vacation as a group of 11. We had ages from 13 to 79 and it was the absolute perfect place for everyone. The staff was incredibly accommodating and kind. Shuttle services were consistently available to take my parents to and from the beach or dinner. Miguel was our concierge and did an amazing job. Adventures he planned included a catamaran tour, several dinners, jet skiing, and a spa day. He even took time to point out animals to our children when he shuttled them to the beach. Stuart, Dylan, Alexander, and Stuart’s cousin (sorry I can’t remember his name) were all lovely, kind, fun, and patient with our large group. We didn’t want to leave! Our last dinner at Tule Cafe had incredible views and even better service! We can’t wait to come back!!! Thank you for lifetime worthy family memories! Pura Vida!!! 🤙 Oh and this was the BEST beach for boogie boarding! Our five teenagers had a blast in the great waves and the service at the beach was fantastic as well!”

“So comfortable and a perfect size. Unbelievable views.we opted for a smaller villa so we could spend more money on excursions We had Jean Carlo as our concierge. We didn’t need a lot from him but he was super attentive when we asked for something. He made a trip to visit us in person to make sure we had everything we needed. The cleaning staff were just as amazing. Free laundry service! The jungle pool was our favorite. It was truly like finding a pool in the jungle. The location is very walkable. Next time we will skip the rental car. There are lots of good cheap eats and upscale restaurants right outside the resort entrance including a grocery store that had wine and beer. The resort had a pretty small but nice shop too. I was really surprised. If you want an escape from traffics, teams calls, noise pollution, and just truly want to disconnect ( plus sleep like a rockstar) this is the place. We are bringing our kids back with us next time so they can see what we’ve been talking about. The place is very steep. Bring walking shoes. The entire resort is built on a very steep hill but only to give you the best views. Luxury meets jungle is the look and feel.”
