This resort came highly recommended by friends and ideal for what we wanted - all-inclusive beach resort for a "fly and flop" holiday. The location is excellent on the biggest beach in Grenada - all beaches are public but that was not really a problem as the beach is wide and the hotel facilities on the beach good and well managed. It can be a bit difficult to get into the sea when the waves are up as there is a ledge just into the sea. Beach and sea are clean. Access to St George's is easy if you wish to leave the resort and external noise only occasionally intrusive (a carnival one day and a very noisy "boose cruise" one Sunday). Atmosphere is a bit lacking - the occasional music evenings were very dated and not very "local" - let's have some reggae and calypso, please! The restaurants are very good (but pricy if you are not all-inclusive) - food in Olivers is very high class but could be a little more local-based in cuisine. The fresh fish in Catch of the Day was always excellent but breakfast was a bit bland. Staff were amazing - they called guests by name, were cheerful and friendly yet very professional. Nothing seemed to be too much to ask and they just got on with any request straight away. The staff around the pool and beach were particularly good at keeping up with the need for water and other drinks plus cold towels and iced-lollies, and also happy to chat about the island. The pool is small but clean and well-maintained with plenty of sun-loungers and towels at all times of day. The rooms are spacious and well-equipped with a good size bathroom (ours had a large spa tub and good size separate shower cubicle). The bed was very large and amazingly comfortable. Only a few criticisms: the house wines were fairly cheap and not especially good, although the staff keep you glass topped up very efficiently! The "Champagne" cocktails were, perhaps not surprisingly, made with cheap fizz and hence not really very pleasant. Stick with the house cocktails (and mocktails) which are good. Despite advertising changing rooms and showers for departing guests on the in-room information system, these were not available and the desk staff try to sell you a $350 extension to the room hire. This is really not acceptable as so many guest have late evening flights - every other good hotel/resort that I have stayed in offers a departure lounge with changing, showers etc. Hopefully, the management will address this lapse in standard of service. Overall, however, the resort is a very good place for a relaxing holiday with excellent accommodation, food and staff in a beautiful location. We plan to return, hopefully to find the minor criticism addressed by the management

  • Understated luxury

“We were fortunate to spend a week at this resort in a Sea Grape Suite. For reference, we have travelled extensively in the Caribbean with 20+ visits to mostly 5-star resorts. We knew immediately that this place was something special. We were greeted warmly by management as we stepped out of our transport and experienced a smooth check-in while being offered a cool drink and refreshing scented face cloth. Our room was perfect with a shaded patio area and 2 loungers just beyond so that we literally could step directly out on the beautiful beach. The bathroom had amazing light through a skylight - a welcome feature since resort bathrooms tend to be dark. The bed was a dream and honestly the most comfortable I've ever slept in and it provided wonderful restful nights. We thought the food was excellent and appreciated the vegetarian options offered for the evening meal. Service was absolutely flawless with someone always at hand to fulfill your every wish. I would characterize Spice Island as understated luxury quietly offering pampering at every turn. They've been doing this right for decades and don't need to change a thing! Like most guests, we are looking forward to a return visit.”

  • Gorgeous resort, with some critiques

    8/10

“A most gorgeous resort located on a beautiful beach, this is true. The resort facilities can't be faulted; everything looked modern, well maintained and very attractive. Walking into the resort, you truly do feel like you're somewhere special and luxurious. We stayed 5 nights, and whilst mostly enjoyable, there were a few aspects which were disappointing which I'll list below. 1) The house wines are of a very low quality. Most of the wines, both red and white, are from Chile and Argentina and just dreadful. 2) There is a serious lack of ambience in the evenings around the bar, and common areas. Maybe the cheap wine contributes to this. 3) We received conflicting information about dinner pricing, and one very rude staff member (manager, perhaps?), refused to show us the a la carte menu, even though we had been told it was available at the Sea & Surf restaurant. Eventually we were very reluctantly presented with the a la carte menu after what felt like an arm wrestling competition. Totally unprofessional and gave us a very bad vibe. 4) For those not on the all-inclusive plan, like us, the fixed menu pricing at Oliver's is an eye watering $140.00 USD per person, not inclusive of drinks. This was a bit much, given the smaller portions, and limited selections. 5) The beach, though extremely beautiful, gets a very steady flow of cruise ship passengers, dogs, and private citizens walking by, morning, afternoon and evening. This didn't lend itself to the relaxing resort ambience I was hoping for. Certainly no fault of the resort, but it bears mentioning. 6) The bathroom is very poorly designed. I didn't enjoy only having one sink for the two of us. Our suite had an enormous bathroom, with a long vanity, yet only one sink. There is also a large towel holder mounted directly in front of the one sink, so it juts out and you have to lean over it to use the sink itself which becomes very tedious. The toilet is also tightly placed at the end of the vanity, making it claustrophobic. All of this is a pity because it could be a very beautiful bathroom, but these are huge design fails and made it uncomfortable. 7) Charging for cheap bottled water that won't even open is really unacceptable at a 5 star resort! On a more positive note, the property is very gorgeous! Stunning, in fact. There is an abundance of places to sit and enjoy whether it be at the beach, pool, or many lovely sitting areas. Breakfasts were wonderful with extremely high quality pressed coffee. The majority of staff we encountered do maintain a nice level of hospitality and professionalism. The housekeeping and maintenance staff also deserve credit as it is a pristinely clean resort.”

The management and staff are first rate, friendly and helpful and very proactive in offering superb service. The food was delicious and drinks offering excellent. My husband and I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.”

“Visited the property in 2018 and had a fantastic stay , I was excited to return. However things have noticeably changed . Positives Staff with the exception of the resort manager were very pleasant and generally the service was good . Food was good Spa , we had several great massages. Location , excellent beach . We had a seagrape beach suite . Housekeeping kept it clean . Negatives It was evident since my last visit cutbacks are in place Breakfast buffet was limited in choice and wasn’t available for self service, it was served by a member of staff and it felt restricted. Bar drinks menu listed champagne cocktails and we were told by staff that champagne was available by the glass . This is not the case , it was Prosecco . Champagne was only available to buy by the bottle , which we ended up doing at great expense. Tennis courts were unavailable for use , an explanation was not given . Bathroom amenities not replenished with regularity. Late check out was offered complimentary in 2018 . It now comes with a hefty 350 USD charge . It’s important to note that, the resort’s occupancy was approx 30 per cent. The staff told us this repeatedly. After a very unpleasant exchange with Sheldon the resort manager we negotiated this down to 250 USD charge. Frankly we found him to be rude and unprofessional . Our encounter with him was unnecessary and upsetting. Due to the above we will not be returning to the spice island resort.”

“My family and I have been returning to Spice Island Beach Resort ever since our very first visit. From the moment we arrived, we were completely smitten by the genuine warmth and welcoming culture that makes you feel like part of the family. From the groundskeepers to management—and especially the wonderful owner, Janelle Hopkin—the entire team consistently anticipates our every need with care and grace. I have never been able to relax anywhere the way I do at Spice, and my husband feels exactly the same. Our son absolutely adores the Nutmeg Pod, and we are incredibly grateful for the resort’s exceptional childcare, which allows us to truly unwind with total peace of mind. After five or six visits, we still can’t wait to return—especially with another trip planned for July. I truly can’t say enough wonderful things about Spice Island Beach Resort; it has become our home away from home. A special thank you to Fabian, Katrina, Lyndonna, Dexter, Dwight, and everyone else who makes our stays so memorable (you know who you are!). See you soon, Spice—thank you for the beautiful memories you continue to create.”

  • A True 5 star Island escape

“I had an amazing 5-star experience! I would definitely recommend staying here if you’re planning a trip to Grenada. We were greeted with welcome cocktails at check-in, and Spice Island made sure our airport transportation was smooth and easy. The food was fantastic! Each meal was a multi-course affair, and we could easily customize it to our tastes and allergies. The afternoon tea selection and presentation could be improved, but it was still quite good. I’m still raving about the fresh pesto pasta! The garden tour was a great way to see the property and learn about the plants and ingredients used in the culinary cuisine. We did get sunburned after a long day at the beach, but the staff were so helpful. We asked them for fresh-cut aloe vera during dinner, which was waiting in our room after dinner. The mini bar in our room was fully stocked, and the cleaning and turn-down service was quick and efficient. The private Plunge pool was ideal for our stay. The spa treatments with massages were wonderful. The beach was calm, clean, and free from people trying to sell things, which we really appreciated. I wish I remember the gentleman’s name who was apart of the garden tour but also some of the guest exercise experiences. He was originally from Grenada. He was awesome, kind and made our stay great.”

  • Excellent holiday but room for improvement - they need to focus on their food

“This was one of the most relaxing breaks we had in 2025. The positives: - Excellent beach (which was surprisingly quiet as it is public) - Spacious and well equipped room; we went for a room with a plunge pool - with hindsight, we should have gone for a room by the beach as the rooms with plunge pools are set back from the beach with no views (very private and very shaded)) - generous mini bar - lovely staff; almost everyone was super friendly, It makes a real difference - I enjoyed the hobi cat sailing (other than the day when the person supervising water sports was working somewhere else….) - Great spa treatments (though the spa itself needs a little TLC) Areas for improvement: - Lack of information on activities; on our penultimate day, a member of staff came up to us at the pool who organised activities, said he hadn’t seen us before (even though we had been at the hotel for 5 days) and suggested various activities - unfortunately it was too late to do most of them (we had kept ourselves active any way with a hire car) - many staff recognise you, others dont asking your name repeatedly in the same day (and the hotel was far from full) - evening bar snacks are very weak and are of a standard you would expect of a mid-range pub in the UK, far short of a 5 star hotel - The biggest, the food. Cooked breakfasts are good, but the buffet is very limited. The lunch menu we quite enjoyed but the dinner consistently underwhelmed; given the price, it should have been so much better. We decided to eat out for 2 nights The last time we visited Grenada we stayed at the Calabash and almost did again. We chose Spice Island Beach Resort because of the beach, which is much better, and our agent saying both had good rooms and excellent food. However, the food at the Calabash is in a totally different league, as is the service. I would return to the Calabash without hesitation (and it is better value). I would only return to Spice Island if the food is much improved; it’s a shame, it has so much potential.”

“The location was perfect, the staff went above and beyond especially when the meals were not up to standard and the breakfast serves was much to be desired. The hotel was clean and welcoming, we had the perfect room straight onto the beach. The hobi kat gave me the chance to see the ocean and the sea creatures. Able to walk to a local bar and small shopping centre.”

“We stayed for a week in this luxurious resort. We loved everything about it from arrival to departure. Every member of staff including the Guest Experience Manager were superb in their daily interactions with guests. Our room was on the beachfront which had a great view. The beach was clean and well maintained. Although the beach was accessible to the public it was not busy or crowded and there was a security guard employed by the hotel 24/7. There were 2 restaurants which provided a lovely selection of local and specialist dishes such as lion fish and barracuda. The Oliver restaurant provided fine dining. I was also able to request dishes with that combined ingredients from different menus. We met the talented chef. There were different activities on offer. We enjoyed the sunset cruise. Athough it was cloudy, the experience was fabulous due to Kevin’s attention to detail and superb service. He even wished us farewell on our departure. He is a credit to the company. I would like to thank Cleon, Guest Activities Assistant for his liveliness and manner in motivating guests. This included an organised walk to Quarantine Point - a local park with great views over the sea especially at sunset. We found the whole place very relaxing and would highly recommend this resort.”

“A five star resort should provide exceptional service, attention to detail and an exceptional Pampered guest experience. Here is why Spice island beach resort failed to live up to this five star designation 1. Lack of beach service/beach chairs / old tattered beach cushions. Unless you are in a beachfront villa you will be scrounging for your own beach chair on a daily basis. I was very surprised that a beach resort of this caliber doesn’t have a beach attendant to set you up with a chair towel and umbrella. We spend each day looking for chairs the cushions were tattered and dirty there was no beach service the first day and it was only after I complained that a nice young lady came by every day after. The beach is the highlight of this hotel. I do not understand why they do not have service and better furniture . 2. Uneven staff service. Some staff were lovely especially upon arrival. And others Seemed put upon to serve you. Arrival had my full of hope with lovely front desk person a nice drink and an introduction to the room. Went downhill from there . Food service was u even in that some Mornings particularly the servers seemed perturbed to be serving you l. We often did not receive what we ordered and service was often slow. We had to ask numerous times for things we ordered . Ar the spa I had to wait while one staff member regularly continued her personal Phone conversation leaving me waiting 3. Details - one treadmill of two wasn’t working for two days. Manager advised they were waiting for a technician Turns out the cable wasn’t plugged in and another guest figured it out. Overall a disappointment 3 Numerous times”

“The location and first impressions were terrific and the resort is situated close to the airport so the drive was not endless. Very welcome after a full day’s -8 “7travel. We had a lovely warm welcome to the hotel by the staff on duty and they upgraded us to their best accommodation because we were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. Thank you! Our villa was spacious and private. BUT there was no sun on our patio so we had to retreat to the beach. Disappointing On the beach the service experience was very Disappointing The view was magnificent but service was very poor. We requested beach loungers to different people 4 times before we gave up and sorted ourselves out. Disappointing There was one person serving everyone on the beach. (Lovely girl) but don’t forget this is a beach resort) Disappointing During our introduction to the resort I was struck by all the strict opening and closing times of bars restaurants and the pool. Which were very pleasant by the way and all overlooking the beach. The restaurant experience was good. Very personable staff at every meal and good food which was bit slow to appear. (Handy hint…... Don’t help yourself at the buffet. ). We were worried that we might tire of the menus at dinner but they changed it up night two 👍. The hotel is attractive and clean but a little tired and dated. e.g Tiles missing in our private pool. (Champagne problems I know but you are paying for perfection. ) the pool was very clean. They have done a great job of making the environment feel tropical and there are plenty of places to relax other than your room. I would rate the staff really. The sounds outside are tropical and the grounds are fabulous and well tended and everyone works very hard and is definitely welcoming. The shop sells mouth watering merchandise but at mouthwatering prices. (Take your passport in if making purchases because you can benefit from the tax free price) . Spice Island is everything you could possibly want in a tropical retreat but the owners could be less complacent given how expensive it is. I hope this helps.”

  • Hats Off to the Staff for Exceptional Start to Finish Service

“This is an exceptional boutique resort hotel on the most fabulous beach in Grenada (or maybe even the entire Caribbean). There are c. 60 suites in the hotel so maybe a total of 150 guests but the staff really try hard to learn your names. The hotel is family-owned and you can easily tell this by the way they train their team to provide the very best customer service. It is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group. We have stayed at one of these before in Mauritius and this one in Grenada is very similar in many ways. In Grenada we stayed in an Oleander Superior Garden Suite which is one of their standard rooms but was very spacious and comfortable with views of the ocean in the distance but very close to the beach. The resort is ultra all inclusive and the room mini bar was well stocked with beers and spirits (but strangely no wine). The resort offers seated a-la-carte breakfasts, lunches and dinners in 2 adjacent restaurants, - the fine dining Oliver restaurant and the Sea & Surf Terrace Bar. During our stay (of one week), there were only 2 nights where the Sea & Surf Terrace Bar was open for dinner. If I had one criticism it would be to open this more frequently for those of us attracted to a less formal dining experience than offered by Olivers. The BBQ night hosted at Sea & Surf was excellent and probably more to my taste. There was an afternoon tea option but with all the other food, - we never partook! We booked the catamaran sunset cruise but unfortunately, there was no sunset. It was a great experience nevertheless. We also booked a free to wander jeep safari which I would also recommend but you need to be a confident driver as the jeeps go off road on some exposed, hilly and tight roads. It provided a great opportunity to see close up the Forts, Waterfalls, Lakes etc in this wonderful island. The wines served with meals (and at the bar) were good quality as was the selection of cocktails, prosecco, beers etc. On one of the nights at Olivers, one of the starter choices was frogs legs which I wouldn't recommend. Grenada is a lovely safe island (virtually no crime). There are very few "hawkers" on the public beach which was also very quiet at the hotel's south end of the beach. A walk up north got busier as you get closer to St Georges. We had seen previous reviews about mosquitos and I am often bitten a lot but we had no problems in Grenada in November. We did elect for Vitamin B tablets, Garlic tablets and mosquito repellant (but this usually doesnt work much for me but did here). Arranging your own taxis from the airport is simple (and much better value than pre-booking with the hotel). An excellent hotel with great rooms, public areas, food and wine but hats off to the staff for exceptional service from start to finish.”

“Amazing stay at Spice - having read the reviews before travelling you are never 100% sure however the service , location and overall atmosphere at the hotel exceeded our expectations. We stayed in an upgraded suite - Royal Ginger and had an amazing time. The food was absolutely superb. We ate lots of fish in Oliver’s - the yellow fin tuna with wasabi was off the scale. Unfortunately my waistline has expanded too much however that was a reflection of the excellent food and great cocktails. The service was very good and ALL the staff - restaurants , bell boys , reception , bar and watersports were excellent. I loved how friendly the team members were - you can tell a strong culture of service prevails with many staff with over 10 years of service. The location is stunning with an amazingly clean beach with fantastic sand and warm sea within a few footsteps . We took 2 of the hotel organised trips - both excellent and no more expensive than those available on other websites. In particular the sip and tour excursion was particularly good - Carl the owner took us to key sites and had the attraction of an inbuilt bar in the back. Key shouts outs to the following staff ; kristina , Lyndonna , Oneisha and Dwight however all were great Particular In summary an amazing break - will be back.”

“When you return to a resort for the 2nd time you hope it will be as good as before, but when you go for the 5th time you hope not just for consistency but that it’s evolved and improved and we were not disappointed! We’ve just returned from a fantastic stay. Seagrape suite perfect and nice for a morning swim. The bed linen so luxurious and Molton Brown products all make up the details that make the difference. A real highlight of this trip was the food. Really improved dinner menus that changed daily. Well cooked and beautifully presented. Good choices at lunch too. Well done to the new Head Chef Brenda and her team. As always the staff are the real asset. Great balance of informal and professional in every department. All great but just a special thankyou to, Lyndonna, Danah, Kaleshur, Dexter, Dwight, Kenitta, Katrina, Fabian and Cleon. Housekeeping, beach, pool and garden teams are often unsung heroes but are what make Spice Island worth coming back to. It was sad to leave but fingers crossed we can return soon.”

“This was my first time to Grenada and what a joy it was to spend 3 nights at the family run Spice Island resort. I'd heard about the legendary service and hospitality that this hotel offers spread over 3 generations of the Hopkin family and I was keen to test it out myself. From the moment I arrived I was treated like one of the family and welcomed with open arms. I stayed in a beach front suite which was right on the stunning Grand Anse beach. My suite was well appointed with everything I could possibly require and most importantly the bed was very comfortable! Every meal I had was delicious and the food here really is top notch. I didn't use the Spa, Outdoor pool or any of the other facilities and I woke each morning and walked the length of the beach which was a real pleasure. I chatted to a few other guests in the evening and most were repeat clients who also couldn't fault this amazing hotel. I look forward to returning with my wife at some point in the future. Thank you Janelle and all the team at the hotel for making my visit so memorable.”

“This was our 4th visit to Spice Island, from the airport transfer to the very warm welcome back from all the staff, everything was just perfect. We stayed in a Sea Grape beach front suite which opened onto the wonderful Grande Anse Beach, perfect for an early morning dip or a walk along one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. This being low season the hotel was less than 50% occupancy, this suited us as the hotel was very peaceful and there was no need to rush for tables at mealtimes or your favourite spot on the beach. The staff without exception were delightful, nothing was too much trouble and we we’re always greeted with a smile and by name. The weather was perfect, hot and sunny with very few showers. We have travelled extensively in the Caribbean over the last 25 years and Spice Island and Grenada ticks all our boxes, so much so we are returning in the New Year. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay so enjoyable and memorable, see you soon.”
