“This is my second visit to the Rainforest Retreat! My first visit was outstanding, with excellent service, friendly, helpful and accommodating. Top quality massage & really delicious food. This visit felt a slight step down. Staff were still super friendly and accommodating. Except there seems to be some newer staff who don’t speak much English, and who took on multiple roles, moving between the kitchen, front desk and massage. I signed up for the the Wellness package which was inclusive of a number of treatments, but were not delivered professionally and definitely were not delivered in a way that would make me want to spend money on that treatment in the future. It was not terrible, but not up to the standard one would expect for the price paid. Some suggested areas of improvement: - the welcome ginger tea (also used at the start of treatments) needs to be drinkable, as it was either extremely sweet or saturated ginger taste (too intense to drink) - Staff need to have some level of English proficiency, especially when it comes to treatments (massage etc), as I needed to communicate areas to avoid and pressure depth, but it was not clear whether she understand me. - Since there is a vegan restaurant, I count on having oat milk as a non-dairy option, which previously was available. This time it seemed they ran out, and were not able to replenish in days I was there…. Which only matters because I love a good cup of coffee with oat milk, and was not available 😆☕️ Otherwise, I’ve still given 4 stars, as I love visiting this spot & hope these improvements can be made to make it amazing again. 🫶🏼”

“From start to finish, this is the BEST experience I have ever enjoyed. The OUTSTANDING team ensured my stay was the best it could be. They tailor made everything to ensure my expectations were met. Nothing was too much trouble. Each team member I met shared the same goal and focus which was for me to have the experience of a life time…and boy did I ever. This was my first experience of finally understanding the definition of “teasing my tastebuds”. The food and beverage I enjoyed was a credit to the expert chefs and serving staff that created such wonderful offerings of local and international cuisine. I have been blessed to be able to have traveled the world and eaten in the best restaurants. Never have I tasted such mouthwatering cuisine. It was truly mind blowing. My villa, Temoyong, was the largest one bedroom villa which boasted a fantastic use of space and spectacular views. It was quiet, private and secure. The only visitors were the splendid crew that serviced the villa and the wonderful monkeys that would pay me a visit from time to time. The affinity pool was amazing and perfect for swimming lengths and added the perfect ambience to the property….and it was ALL MINE. The 226 sqm was most welcomed. The separate kitchen and terrace made everything perfectly accessible when spending the day in the great outdoors and enjoying the excellent scenery and Malaysian hospitality. I could, and did spend time in my lounge, patio doors wide open, sat on the edge with my feet and legs dangling in the pool taking in the afternoon sun and sights of off the mountains and water activities going on in Cenang Bay. Watching the eagles and the wildlife in their natural habitat. Getting lost in my thoughts and enjoying the tranquility. Every morning I would have my breakfast delivered to my villa. A generous choice of offerings from local delights to diet conscious individuals to an international pallet. However, if I wanted something off the menu, I guarantee…they would meet the challenge. Dinner in the restaurant was also a joy. I’m a creature of habit. Every night I would enjoy a serving of the world reknowned Malaysian Satay which is a meal in itself. Of course, one must start off with a beverage on the upper terrace of the Rimba restaurant. Or, you could get the front end staff run you over to the Rainforest side to the Vegan restaurant should that be your pleasure for the evening. Again, NOTHING is too much trouble. Akane, Ummi and Azza are there to make sure your stay is seamless….Prem and his team in the Rimba are there to ensure you are never thirsty or hungry. At the end of my stay I was having issues with getting flights home due to the disruption in the Middle East. Without hesitation, Akane was there to assist me with local airlines and travel professionals. Thanks to her, I managed to get home on schedule. Also, whilst I was there, a tailor made itinerary for an island tour with a private car and driver was created and executed with ease and a typical “NO PROBLEM” approach by this awesome team of customer focused and driven individuals. Ambong Ambong is now my annual pilgrimage to a holiday of utter PERFECTION. Thank you to ALL if you for making my stay the experience of a lifetime.”

“If you like peace, quiet and living with nature, this is the place to stay. We were greeted by monkeys, squirrels and birds everyday. The room we stayed in had views of the rainforest and sea (and sunsets) and was very private. The staff at the resort were exemplary; very friendly and obliging. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The rooms are built on a hill, so walking to and from the room may be challenging for the less fit or elderly, however, the staff run a shuttle service and were happy to drive us anytime we rang them. Thank you, staff at Ambong Ambong, for our fabulous stay. We will be back!”

“Beautiful, astonishing surroundings and stunning nature. The room was amazing, with a great design and a very comfortable atmosphere. The hospitality was incredibly warm and welcoming, truly heartfelt service. The staff were super friendly and attentive. The yoga sessions were fantastic, and the yoga teacher was outstanding. Breakfast was delicious, with a great variety and a fresh mix of options. All in all, a fantastic holiday destination. The pool in the rainforest is truly a gem, the perfect place to relax in the middle of the jungle. We would definitely come back.”

“We enjoyed a fabulous stay in this idyllic little resort in the jungle! It's situated just outside the main part of Chenai beach / Chenaihill but still close to amenities and a nice part of the beach. We had one of the two bedroom studios and it was a lovely space. Well equipped, spacious and a really nice place to hang out with views out into the trees and the sea and sunsets beyond. The staff were super helpful, friendly and attentive before we arrived and while we were there, with fast and clear communication when making arrangements. We received a warm welcome when we first arrived. The resort is situated on a steep hill so you're likely to want to take advantage of the shuttle service, which can also take you across to the neighbouring Ambong villas where one of the restaurants is situated. The breakfasts in both restaurants were beautifully made and delicious and we had a couple of good dinners at Rimba Sky as well. There is also complimentary yoga which we really enjoyed, an on premise spa, and the staff can give good recommendations for other activities around the island such as boat trips, mangrove tours and watersports.”

“We had an amazing stay at Ambong Rainforest Retreat. We rented a two-bedroom cottage spread over three levels, completely immersed in the tropical rainforest — truly an exceptional setting. The cottage was very spacious, spotless, and extremely comfortable, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding nature. Waking up in the middle of the rainforest was a unique and unforgettable experience. And yet, it’s only a 10-minute walk to the beach, which makes the location absolutely perfect. The staff were incredibly kind, friendly, and always helpful throughout our stay. I highly recommend this retreat for anyone looking for a peaceful and unique stay in Langkawi.”

“We chose Ambong Rainforest Retreat as our honeymoon destination based off the beautiful photos of the resort and rooms, originally booking through Booking.com. However, upon directly speaking with the warm, welcoming reservations team at Ambong, we opted to book directly through them instead as they were able to offer several upgrades and complimentary packages through the direct booking / as a honeymoon special arrangement! Having stayed there for 1 week, I break down my review as below. Service: 5*. For us, this was the true standout (an unexpected surprise, as the resort is beautiful enough!). The team respond almost instantly on WhatsApp both whilst reserving/booking, and during your stay. The resort arranged complimentary airport transfer for my new husband and I, an afternoon tea at the Rimba, an evening dinner at Rimba Sky, a massage at Amaala Spa (sensational; by the way), honeymoon decor for us upon arrival (including a cake and bottle of wine!), and were so warm, kind and proactive throughout. I am a frequent traveller and confidently can say this is the best service I have received; due to the small number of rooms, the attention to detail, care and making you feel like family is superior. If you need transfer around the resort or to the restaurant, a car would always come within 5min of me texting the team. We’d be greeted with smiles and chat every morning, recommendations of where to go, help parking our scooters (!!), and somehow, we never left an interaction with any member of staff without a big smile on our faces. A special thank you to Nizal, with whom we spent the most time, who is the happiest, loveliest man we have met! A special thanks to Prem, also, who looked after us wonderfully from the admin side. The resort is so helpful and on hand for any needs you may have, and never makes you feel unwelcome/like you’re asking too much. A special thank you also to the kindness shown when we had issues with our arrival, resulting in a 2 day delay to our honeymoon check in and being stranded in Singapore. The team could not have been more helpful, and only charged us for the nights we actually stayed without question. This unspoken gesture was so warmly appreciated by us, who had experienced trauma from the horrific travelling experience in Singapore, and who already had to spend money we hadn’t been expecting. Upon our initial arrival to Ambong, the staff said ‘Hi guys, where have you been? We’ve been waiting for you!’, knew our names, took us straight to the beautiful, clean room with a stunning view of the ocean, and brought us a chilled bottle of white wine which we hadn’t expected. It was everything!! Rooms: 5*. The room was absolutely gorgeous. Cleaned twice daily, floor to ceiling windows with a view of the ocean and beach and rainforest, large and comfy bed, fresh towels folded each morning. It was spacious, airy, and luxurious. The bathrooms were spotless with a rain shower (also huge windows and views), clean, huge mirrors, and spotless loos. Private balcony includes a wooden hot tub, recline chairs and table with beautifully spanning view. Cold fridge included which is stocked daily with complimentary soft drinks, milk, and chilled water. Kitchenette includes microwave, sink, plates, wine glasses, cutlery, cups etc - all clean. Air conditioning worked very well, extra room fans included, beautiful cushion and seating decor, fully working smart tv, multiple soft lighting lamps and main lights on ceiling. Zero issues with privacy or noise disturbances during our stay; felt totally secluded and private in our room. Amenities: 5*. Both the Peggaga and Rimba restaurants were a food highlight of the stay. Langkawi has some gorgeous spots for local cuisine, and having come from Singapore for the previous leg, we had already eaten what we thought would be the best dishes of the trip. Proven wrong! The vegan dishes are exquisite, innovative and flavourful at the Pegagga, and at the Rimba, the dinner was actually the best we had in Langkawi. A must try if you stay in the resort. Big portions, excellent services, local authentic flavours with beautiful presentation. There is a range to choose from with the breakfast each morning from Nasi Lemak/Roti Canai as local options, omelette (again, highlight surprise as typically we find omelettes overcooked but this was soft and creamy inside!) to meat, fresh fruits, smoothie bowls, pastries, avocado toast, fresh squeezed juices etc as options. We tried it all, loved it all, and were big foodies! Tables clean, presentation beautiful, scoping view included from most spots, option to dine al fresco or indoors (air conditioned). Wellness services also offered through the spa (Amaala), Japanese restaurant on site, open pool etc. Amaala spa was the best massage we’ve ever had by the way - wholly recommend. Clean, attention to detail fabulous, service provided with so much care and bespoke curation. Air conditioned gym also beautiful, spacious and quiet. I used each morning and it was fabulous - always empty! High tech equipment and well maintained. Very clean. Hygiene: 5* Spotless throughout, cleaners extremely friendly and kind, came to help us instantly when we had a spillage one of the days. Location: 5* Very close to Cenang, lots of amenities, restaurants, and activities around. Good location for range of activities in itinerary (we had watersports, local sightseeing, Cenang/Kuah visits, night markets, catamaran, seven wells waterfall hike, kota mahsuri, etc planned and made it all without issue). Everything within c.30 mins travel, highly recommend hiring scooter for ease. Grab also works well from here, reception very good throughout resort. Overall, this could not have been a more beautiful honeymoon experience, and so much of that is because of Ambong. Not one falter or bad moment there; simply exceptional across the board. We will be going back in December because we love it so much. One of the best resorts I have encountered on my travels. Thank you so much Ambong!!!! - Amber and Michael”

“My partner and I stayed at Ambong Retreat for 6 nights to celebrate my 60th birthday and we had an amazing time. The accommodation was fab, spotlessly clean and had all the facilities we needed for our stay. Our views over the forest to the sea were spectacular and we had regular squirrel, gecko and monkey visitors. Great food, especially the breakfasts and the staff were all lovely, friendly and helpful. Big thank you to Nizal for my birthday treat and the lifts up and down the hill when we were just too tired to walk. The resort is a 10 min walk to the beach, bars & restaurants and the staff can also arrange airport transfers and local trips if required. I have no hesitation in recommending Ambong Ambong for an unforgettable stay in Langkawi.”
