    “This is not a 4-star hotel. I have no idea what type of guest rates it highly. Many two-star places offer better hospitality and service level than this one. The towels smell awful. After one use, all the previous odors come out. We asked for a new set, but those were the same and had orange stains in addition to the smell. We had to resort to our small travel towel. The suite has a strange configuration: the bedroom is on a mezzanine level, reachable by a tall spiral staircase, while the bathroom is on the lower level. Good luck navigating that at night. The bathroom/shower/toilet sits right inside the living room, separated only by a glass door, so there’s very little privacy. The windows and balcony face the backyard with the pool and seating area where breakfast is served. It gets noisy in the mornings from 6/7am, especially for guests who prefer to sleep with some fresh air. Our suite had no desk or table, even though one is advertised on Booking.com. They offer a small kitchenette, but no table - only a small iron coffee table on the balcony. We were offered another room that had a desk, but only for the following day. Re-packing wasn’t convenient and we had a busy schedule, so we passed. I went to reception the night before to ask about a later checkout (just 30 minutes, until 11:30). The 24-hour reception was empty at midnight. After I rang the bell, a very unpleasant and unfriendly gentleman came out of a staff room, still finishing his meal. After a long pause and a dull stare at his screen, he said “your room is occupied.” Long pause. Late checkout would cost you €20. I mentioned the missing desk and disrupted water the morning before, as a small courtesy, but he stayed silent and stone-faced. I left in disbelief. The next morning they woke us up by phone to advise that we could leave at 11:30. Too little, too late! This place has been on our radar for many years whenever we’ve been in Malta, and we finally decided to try it. Not again.”
