“Well, arrived to a room with mold/water damage/upteen plaster bagworms. After 1.5 hours, finally moved. And the new room had water damage and broken lamp/phone/electrical. This is a horrible way to begin a vacation. The place is destined to be remodeled. But rather then treat it as such, the big push for Preferred and Unlimited is such a focus that anyone who is not will get treated more then subpar (however, even those in preferred rooms had complaints). This trip ended with a simply defeated couple who allready knew any request would be a no. Hyatt must do better but I do not think they will as that Preferred/Unlimited push is a set management drive that will cause solid issues as it did with me and many others. Rating given a second star as, with any other all-inlcusive, there are multiple hard working, kind staff.”

  • Secrets Aura Cozumel - Third trip was a charm!

“I kept waiting to get a survey from UVC but didn't so here is my review. This was our third time staying at Secrets Aura Cozumel to celebrate my husband's birthday. We love this resort and the location, the resort is clean, the employees are friendly and helpful. When we first arrived there was an issue with our room, we requested a ground level floor due to my inability to climb stairs because of knee problems and were told via email it was confirmed. Instead we were checked into a 2nd floor room with no elevator access. We were told we would only be there overnight because they were full but would be moved the following morning. We were instructed to go to the front desk between 9 am - 9:30 am and they would have our new room information. We were also told we needed to be out of the current room by Noon. To make a long story short, the new room was "ready" but was not "approved" even though we were given a tour of the room and approved of the location on the 4th floor in the building with an elevator. After being told 5 times since 9:30 am that we would be notified when we could get into the new room, my patience was gone. At 12:45 pm I went to the front desk and asked to speak to the front desk manager, I was told she was busy but the person I was talking to could help me, I told her the situation and she said she'd check on the status of the room. When she returned to tell me the room was ready but was not yet approved, I had enough. Apparently, the policy is to get the vacated rooms ready for the people who would be arriving later that day rather than moving the current guests into the room that was ready - STUPID policy! There was another UVC representative standing there and overheard some of my less than happy conversation and he came over to speak with me. His name was Alonso Cervantes who I started to call "The Fixer!" Alonso heard my complaint and indicated that he would meet us in the Preferred Club at 1:15 pm with our new room keycard and have our luggage delivered. At 1:10 pm Alonso appeared at the Preferred Club and took us to our new room. He checked the entire room to ensure everything was working and informed us that the "approval" for the room was because there had been an issue with the air conditioner and they wanted to make sure it was working properly. Communication goes a long way, thank you Alonso. There were a few other minor issues during the week with the air conditioner and mini-fridge but Alonso had them fixed quickly. Having met Alonso certainly enhanced our stay, he was friendly, knowledgeable, personable, helpful and you can tell he LOVES his job. Kevin Preferred Club, was super as was Ricardo at Bordeaux and Hibatchi, Fatima at the Pool Bar and Elias from golf cart transportation were all very nice and did a great job!”

  • Charged $460 for One Hour of Tennis — Unacceptable Experience

    2/10

    bremenf2026 · Friends getaway · 2026-08-11

“My experience with Secrets Aura Cozumel was unacceptable. I was verbally quoted “460” to use the tennis court while I was in Mexico, so I understood the price to be 460 MXN. Instead, my card was charged $460 USD for only one hour of tennis. I would never knowingly agree to pay $460 USD for one hour, especially since I was escorted off the property immediately afterward and received no access to the pool, beach, food, drinks, fitness center, or other resort amenities. When I disputed the charge, the resort submitted a handwritten receipt to my bank as evidence that I had agreed to pay $460 USD. In my opinion, a handwritten document that could easily be recreated or changed does not establish what I was verbally quoted or knowingly authorized. The resort also claimed that I used its facilities on Saturday. However, I have an original timestamped and location-tagged photo showing that I was at a completely different gym in Cozumel that Saturday morning. I later contacted the resort directly. Its Chief Concierge Assistant confirmed in writing that the $115 USD day pass included everything I listed: pools, beach access, restaurants, food and beverages, bars, tennis, racquets and balls, the fitness center, and other recreational facilities. I received none of those benefits. During the time I was there, I also saw how poorly maintained the property appeared. The tennis courts were extremely dirty, paint was peeling in several areas, and the overall property looked neglected. There was also what appeared to be an entire abandoned or unfinished construction complex next door. The conditions were nowhere near the standard I expected from a Secrets resort, especially considering the prices they charge. This is not only about the $460. It is about transparency, accountability, and doing what is right. I am attaching the original receipt, emails, timestamped photograph, and photos of the court and property conditions so people can review the evidence and decide for themselves. Based on the charge, the condition of the property, the way I was treated, and how the resort handled my dispute, I cannot recommend Secrets Aura Cozumel. I strongly advise anyone visiting to obtain every price, currency, and included amenity in writing before allowing the resort to charge a card.”

“Hotel right on beach. Snorkeling is great right off the hotel beach. Had to upgrade from the two level location to the four level main hotel. Had to pay more though, but it had plunge pool in room, so it was worth it. The food is great, restaurant Oceania has delicious food. The room service , cleaning services were awesome. Had to call to get minibar restocked. Only problem there was loud construction noise going on above the room into the evening one time. The beaches are clear with no seaweed. Beautiful views, awesome stay.”

  • 10th Trip To Secrets Aura Cozumel and Never Disappointed

“We have been coming here since 2012. This was our 10th visit. We love the staff, the beach, rooms, and food. Bordeaux is our favorite restaurant. The service there is fantastic. The hostess is so nice and has a smile all the time. The appetizers, soup/salad, and main course was served with excellent timing. Luis did an excellent job pairing the wine with our dinners. I highly recommend dining in the wine cellar! He has been taking care of us for 10+ years. He is a special person and an amazing employee! William is a true master of his craft at making bananas foster! Migual is an excellent server and said hello everyday we walked by the restaurant. The staff remembers you and it makes it feel like home. Yulianna did a good job serving us as well. Carlos is one of our favorite bar tenders. He remembers how we like our drinks! Our room was very clean every day! The house keeping was great! The beach service was great and the beach was clean. We highly recommend Preferred Club. We have stayed in Preferred 8 of our 10 trips. Well worth it. Unfortunately there is a pier fee of $10 per day per person to be picked up for scuba diving.”

“Secrets Aura Cozumel is a very nice resort. We were in a preferred room and we had no issues with it. Apparently the non-preferred rooms have been updated and the preferred rooms are about to be closed for a couple of years to be updated as well! So that will be even better! There was a sunscape resort next door that just finished being updated and will now be a dreams preferred section, and that looks very nice, so if they do the same work at secrets it will be an amazing resort! All the restaurants had very good food and service was great! We only had a service issue once, at oceana for breakfast, but that was a crossover day so I feel like there was double the people there right then. The hibachi chef was hilarious and the food was amazing and the views from up there were even better! Salvador, the preferred concierge was great and very accommodating to all of our large groups needs! My absolute favorite person at the resort was our server/bartender at the preferred pool, Miguel. He might be my all time favorite person I’ve met at any vacation resort. He is such a kind person and very helpful and went out of his way for us! We had many good conversations and I even teared up a little bit when we finally had to say goodbye.”

“We came back to Secrets Aura Cozumel for the fifth time over the July 4th holiday and, as usual, had a wonderful time! We didn't get the Preferred Club Ocean View Superior room we requested at check in but Glendy in the Preferred Club check-in office helped us into room 1444 the next day! A beautiful room and even better view! Thank you, Glendy! We were surprised to find the hotel planned two big beach parties with buffet dinners during our stay. On July 4th, a huge celebration of American Independence Day including fireworks and live band. The next night they used the same setup for a Mexico vs. UK soccer game beach watch party, minus the live band. The tacos were wonderful and such a party! We had dinner at Bordeaux twice during our stay and the meals prepared by Chef Jenny and her staff were wonderful! Yuriana took care of us for our first dinner and worked so hard to ensure we a great dinner experience and is so very kind! Our second dinner our old friend Miguel Sanchez served us and again provided the very best high end dinner experience one could ask. Miguel immediately remembered us from our previous visits when had breakfast and lunch at Oceana by the beach which was very nice. William demonstrated his considerable skill while providing us a memorable dessert experience with his fiery preparation of Bananas Foster, so cool! We made new friends during breakfast and lunch at Oceana including Sergio, our server for most meals, and Rosanna and Emily. Such wonderful people and very kind to all the guests. Thank you all for making our stay one to remember! :-)”

  • Half the restaurants closed. Too many better choices out there

    4/10

    colem571 · NONE · 2026-07-21

“I took my entire family of 4 for a weeks' vacation. This resort is obviously old, and they are trying to renovate however, the real issue was the number of closed restaurants as well as the quality of food. One of the biggest items that I look forward to on vacation is trying someplace new as well as new food in a new place. This resort closed at least half of the restraints each day forcing us to wait for an average of 30 min to an hour for dinner. Then after the long wait the food was at best average. The highlight was how great the staff was. location was very nice but, the amount of coral rock once you enter the water is foot shredding. There are also no stores at the resort that sells essentials like sunscreen and Tylenol. Also, if you want to use the pier at the resort you will have to pay $10 person. With so many other choices and places to go we will not be coming back.”

  • Comically Quirky (not always in a good way)

    4/10

    967annea · Couples · 2026-07-20

“This was our first trip to an all-inclusive resort. We figured it would be like a cruise. We had a Preferred Club Oceanview Junior Suite. Beautiful view; near the Preferred Club Pool. We were traveling with a group & some had regular rooms & some Preferred Club. Check in took forever for the Preferred Club due to “personalized service”… that was about the only personalized experience we had. This property is older & the buildings are showing their age, our room was large but dated decor, the couch was so uncomfortable we resorted to the small bistro chairs. The bathroom had an open shower but the hand wand wouldn’t shut off which reduced the pressure on the rain shower. The shower water was just warm but the sinks had hot water…honestly we are not overly picky but little things like this kept piling up. Our first night dinner was mediocre at best; I figured I just ordered the wrong thing…later we walked to the buffet to pick up some fruit & it looked tired & picked over. Breakfast at Oceana was the best food we had all week; the Mexican breakfast choices were all excellent! The second night we had a group dinner at the French inspired restaurant, another bad choice on my part, pork loin as thin as pancakes. The third night we had the hibachi experience…this was cheesy entertainment & the dinner was average which was an improvement over poor & terrible. Our last night we ate at the sushi restaurant & once again were disappointed. The food was consistently poor quality, tough meats & unrecognizable sides. There was little flavor to the dishes. The bar service at the pools was excellent. Don’t expect great house wines; but they weren’t undrinkable either. The one thing that disappointed me most was housekeeping; our room was only serviced one day; not even a basic wipe down or make the bed. Our A/C went out & maintenance was prompt with the repairs. Another thing was the push to participate in a sales presentation for the Hyatt vacation club. We didn’t go because we knew we were not interested in “resort lifestyle” but some in our group did to get the free massage. Nightlife & entertainment were nonexistent & the place was dead by 9PM. I want to say this though in spite of the bad food, quirky room, & lack of housekeeping we had a nice vacation. The service from bartenders & waitstaff was excellent. We met some wonderful people who had been coming for years & swore by the island & its hospitality. The beach was marvelous! The pools were some of the cleanest & well maintained that I have ever seen. If you are with a group make sure you all have the same type rooms because the “pool police” check to make sure that non preferred guests are not at the preferred pool so parts of our group got sent away…we ended up at the regular pool because we were just drinking beer & it didn’t matter but a few of our group were miffed that we all couldn’t hang out together AND enjoy the premium package. Would we go back to this resort (or any resort) probably not. It was nothing like a cruise & frankly if we weren’t with a group it would have been boring. We basically spent the whole day in the water drinking beer; got somewhat dressed for bad dining experiences & we were back to our room by 9PM to watch TV in Spanish. Rinse & repeat”

  • Verry Disappointing and badly Managed.

“We are A couple from quebec canada. We travel quite a bit(7 times in the last 2 years. I'd say more than average) . We haven't had too many complaints about our travels to date, as long as we have the minimum (good food, clean rooms and good service). We booked this hotel expecting Secrets resort quality . Our first room at check in had water falling from the ceiling like Niagara Falls. So they switched ust to another room. It was dirty, moldy smelly , badly in need of repairs(our room door had a 1 inch gap at the top and 1/2 inch gap at the bottom we coud see through). On the second day it rained and water was flooding in from under the door across our room. We demanded a change and they were willing to upgrade us to preferred room but only at end of day, so we lost almost the whole day . Very disappointing. The food on the first day was horrible. We ate at oceana for breakfast and it was OK. For lunch we tried buffet and most of the food was recycled from previous buffets and was inedible so we decided on room service nachos because we were starving. The next 3 to 4 days as resort got fuller food quality got better and then near end of stay it was back to awful food and recycled food. As far as the way the hotel is managed I'm very dissatisfied. We had access to the Dreams side of the resort and I have a mobility issue due to a bad hip. So we go to reception to get a lift with their golf cart (only 1 for entire grounds of 3 hotels) and it was always recharging. Ok what's plan B,C Or D in this situation sir, especially for elderly or low mobility people. Oh sir we have no plan B,C or D. You can just walk.. very disappointing 😞. Ok so in short , no I would never come back here and I wouldn't recommend it either.. there are plenty of better resorts on the island than Secrets Aura Cozumel.”

  • Poor Service and Broken Dreams

    C3842QUjohno · Family · 2026-07-15

“Our trip was memorable for all the wrong reasons, starting with the service, to little fruit flies in our room, to poorly lit walkways with chunks of concrete missing. My wife ended up breaking her ankle on one of the broken steps which prematurely ended our trip. Instead of showing empathy for our situation the staff was more concerned with how long we were going to need the wheelchair. Prior to leaving early, I asked to speak with a manager but was told they were unavailable and that I needed to contact Ms. Ana Vargas after returning home. After sending weekly requests to Ms. Vargas, who acknowledged receipt of two of my emails, my questions and requests have gone unaddressed. Given that my wife broke her ankle as a result of an unmarked broken step, we expected more. Instead, we incurred over $2,000 in medical expenses and additional flight costs to return home to see a specialist, which resulted in lost two days of resort time, no response from Ms. Vargas, and even less empathy along the way. If service is important to you as well as safe walkaways to the beach, I suggest looking elsewhere.”

“If you are considering going to Secrets Aurora Cozumel, go elsewhere. We had the first issue when we were checking. The couple we were traveling with did not have a room and thus was placed at their sister resort. They were told to drop off their luggage the following day by noon and they would try to get them a room at Secrets sometime the next day. There were many other concerns that came up during our time there. One, the pavement is extremely uneven, even broken in places which makes it unsafe, especially in the evenings. We only had one friendly server at all of the restaurants and bars we went to. No smiles, no greetings, etc… This was very surprising, as every other place we have vacationed at had very friendly staff. Though they have a preferred member pool, etc… DON’T waste your money. There are no wrist bands so everyone accesses the preferred pool, etc.. Plus, they did not have enough chairs at the pools or beach area. They literally brought out folding chairs for people to use.”
