Wonderful luxury resort with stunning views and an easy walking path to a beautiful beach

“We had a soon-expiring Bonvoy free night certificate and were happy to find an available one-night stay at this luxury resort. We found that we were able to squeeze a lot of enjoyment out of our one night--although it would obviously be more relaxing to be able to stay longer.
We have stayed at most of the luxury beach-adjacent resorts in the Orange County area and all are nice, but we think this one may have the nicest setting of all. The Resort at Pelican Hill and the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach are both very nice properties, with available shuttles to beautiful beaches. But they sit higher on the bluffs, making it much more difficult to take a casual walk to the beach. The Ritz, while not on the beach itself, is only a short walk downhill through a paved pathway with gorgeous views. The resort still does run a golf-cart-type shuttle to/from the beach, so you can use that, or at least take it back uphill to the resort after having a nice walk along the beach.
One note about our front desk experience reveals how the Ritz staff is empowered to make customers happy. We had booked a Resort View Guest Room using our certificate and a day or two prior to our visit, the Bonvoy app noted that I was booked in a "coastal view" room. When we checked in, Eric told me that we had been upgraded to a nice coastal view room and that our request for feather-free pillows and bedding had been noted and provided. But when we went to the room, the pillows and bedding had feathers/down, and the view was mostly of a large wall separating the resort from the next property over. We called down to Eric and asked if this was, indeed, the right room since the bedding had not been prepared for us after all; we also mentioned that while we could see the ocean from the balcony, we could not see the "coast" due to the prominent wall blocking the view. Eric asked for a few minutes to see what he could do.
We explored the resort and then checked back in with Eric. He told us that he secured a room on the other side of the resort and would have a bellman help us with our (minimal) luggage for the move. This was great because the bellman filled us in on the resort's offerings and guided us through different buildings to the one furthest from the room we were initially given. The new room was de-feathered and had a superior view to the north/west. We were really pleased with the switch and thank Eric for ensuring we were happy, even though we were only using a certificate for the stay. (See photos of the view from our balcony, including a nice sunset.)
Although we only had an hour or so to do so, we did hang out at one of the two pools. There were plenty of lounge chairs, towels, sunscreen dispensers, and shade. A waitress come over quickly to provide ice water for us and did not seem at all preturbed when we told her we were only staying for a few minutes and didn't need to order anything.
It should be noted that this is not a great property for exploring the area by foot--other than walking to the beach. To get to non-resort restaurants and shops, you need a car or rely on rideshares. If you have a car, the valet service is very efficient (just text down a few minutes ahead of time for the valet guys to retrieve your car), although overnight parking is expensive.
Overall, this is a classy, luxurious, well-staffed resort in an enviable setting with glorious beach views. We look forward to going back.”
Wish I could have stayed forever!

“My husband and I traveled to the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel with our 2 year old and already can’t wait to return. This was by far our favorite vacation (ever!) The hotel is absolutely stunning with the most breathtaking views and walk to the beach. The staff is exactly as you would expect from the Ritz- above and beyond in every aspect. This hotel offers a true luxury experience for beach lovers, with a walk down to the ocean and exceptional service from every single hotel worker. We LOVED working with adventure photography- their onsite photography service that captures photos of our family and was so sweet and kind to work with- it’s not easy photographing a 2 year old and he was so connected and patient. We hope to return every single year, this is our new favorite hotel!!!!!!!”
Awful customer service when trying to book a massage. Will not be bothering.

“This review is for the spa team.
I called in today to inquire on the different spa packages and while I called multiple times, absolutely no one answered their phone. I had to call the front desk to get transferred. So maybe people were busy but are you really that busy on a Wednesday morning? Not a great start.
Then I connect with one of the spa managers and ask her to differentiate a couples massage vs relaxation massage. The answers were vague and I had to ask additional clarifying questions and the way I was answered had such a rude and coarse tone like I was bothering this woman for help.
Lastly, the website shows a price of $960 for a couples massage but if you try to check out, it jacks the price up to 1k. I mentioned this to the spa manager and she said, “oh that’s because it’s a couples massage.” Clearly I understand what I’m trying to check out on but how can the advertised price not be the price upon check out??
She said I was mistaken and tried to gaslight me on the situation and said that what I was seeing with my very own eyes was not true. She also said it in a very condescending tone.
When someone is considering spending 1k with you, you’d expect someone to be pleasant and happy to help. These people seem like they could care less about your business. The irony is that the only reason they have a job is because of customers willing to spend money.
This was exhausting, disappointing, rude, and a waste of my time. I’ll be going elsewhere which is a pity since I will be a hotel guest. I expect better customer service from the Ritz but maybe they don’t care.”

“Stayed during a convention at St. Regis. The location is beautiful. The staff was very professional. I would stay again. I would recommend this location over the Ritz MDR or Beverly Wilshire.”
High-end corporate luxury hotel

“Outstanding staff, facilities and food distinguish the hotel as a luxury corporate and event location. The design is a somewhat unmemorable pastiche of high-end finishes with a nod toward the ubiquitous SoCal Spanish mission style of architecture. The lobby is decorated with a profusion of beautiful fresh flowers and views of surfers in the ocean below are everywhere. An army of staff are unobtrusive but always nearby, smiling, and quick to help. A small issue with our room was taken care of quickly and an unnecessary but appreciated and generous credit was offered for us to use in one of the restaurants or the spa.
Our standard room was in perfect condition, fresh, well-appointed and very comfortable. The furniture was handsome and more contemporary (in a very welcome way) than the more stuffy way that many Ritz properties have traditionally sported. Housekeeping was flawless.
The gym had stunning ocean views and was adequately fitted with enough equipment to get the job done. It was spacious for a hotel workout space.
The larger pool area (there are two pools) was a great place to lounge. Umbrellas were readily available for shade and staff were readily available for more towels, food orders, etc.
The business event catering was delicious and a cut well above usual buffet fare. The outdoor dining venues were beautiful.”

“We had a wonderful evening at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel. Our table at the outdoor bar offered absolutely stunning ocean views, and watching the sunset was truly soul-stirring.
A special thank you to Julian for his super attentive and efficient service throughout the evening. He was quick with our drinks, prompt in taking our food order, and everything arrived hot and delicious. He is a fantastic ambassador for the hotel.
We’d also like to recognize Cadi at the front of house for her warm and welcoming presence.
We’re already looking forward to coming back again soon!”

“I stayed here for 6 nights with my wife and three young children. I have been wanting to stay at this property for years and was able to last minute. We live in South Carolina so it was effort getting out here but it was beautiful! We came during my daughter's Spring Break which was March 15-21 and it ended up being a great choice for us because even though the property was busy it didn't feel overly busy. Everywhere on property was pretty. I actually never even left because it had everything we needed. Most of our meals were in-room dining orders but we did eat breakfast a couple of days at the restaurant. We also had a couple of meals by the pool. All of our meals were wonderful. If I had to say anything negative it was that the food took 1-1.5 hrs to arrive during just about every in-room dining order. The staff was really friendly and I would recommend the hotel for families. The beach is also beautiful albeit a steep hill pushing a stroller. The beach chair setup was good and they always had plenty of chairs available. I do wish the beach chair service would consider extending past 5pm, even until 5:30, because 5pm seemed really early in the day still. I was in mourning upon checkout because I enjoyed it so much!”
The Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel Stay Experience
4/10

“My recent stay had several positive aspects, but unfortunately a series of operational issues significantly disrupted the experience and ultimately fell far below the level of service and reliability one expects from a Ritz-Carlton property.
To begin with the positives, the beach location of the property is truly outstanding. The setting is beautiful and being so close to the ocean creates a relaxing and scenic environment. In addition, every staff member I interacted with was polite, courteous, and professional. The individuals working at the property were clearly doing their best to assist, which I appreciated.
Unfortunately, the operational breakdown surrounding access to my room became a major disruption to the stay.
At one point I was completely locked out of my room. I walked to the front desk to have my keys re-magnetized. It is worth noting that the distance between my room and the front desk is not insignificant, so each trip required a considerable walk.
After returning to my room, the key still did not work. I then had to walk back to the front desk a second time and repeat the process. When I returned to the room again, the key still failed.
This resulted in a third trip back to the front desk. A staff member then came to investigate the situation. When he attempted to access the room, his access key also did not work, confirming the problem was not with my key but with the door lock itself. At that point a technician had to be called to address the malfunction.
The entire process required repeated trips back and forth between my room and the front desk, along with waiting for multiple staff members and a technician. Being locked out of the room for an extended period significantly disrupted the plans I had for the day and consumed a considerable amount of time that should have been spent enjoying the property.
When the technician arrived, I was then told I would need to return to the front desk yet again to have the keys re-magnetized. After already making multiple trips and waiting for assistance, this was extremely frustrating. At that point I simply requested to be moved to another room.
Because of the room change, we then had to pack all of our clothing and personal belongings and move everything to the new room, which added further disruption and inconvenience to the stay.
In addition to this issue, my key never worked for the back entrance of the building during the stay, meaning that accessing the property from that entrance was not possible.
Another disappointing issue was the condition of the bedding in the first room. When I went to sleep, the sheets felt damp, which is not something you would expect to encounter at a property associated with the Ritz-Carlton standard of quality.
Management did reach out and offered $75 in compensation for the inconvenience. While I appreciate the gesture, the amount felt very limited considering the amount of time spent dealing with these issues. Between the repeated walks to the front desk, the lock malfunction, waiting for staff and a technician, the need to change rooms, and packing and relocating our belongings, a meaningful portion of the stay was spent resolving operational problems rather than enjoying the property.
Taken individually, any one of these issues might have been understandable. However, when combined — the lock failure, repeated trips to the front desk, waiting for multiple staff members and a technician, the need to relocate rooms, the continued key access problems, and the damp sheets in the first room — the overall experience fell short of the expectations typically associated with a Ritz-Carlton stay.
The property itself is beautiful and the staff members were courteous throughout the process. However, the operational issues ultimately overshadowed what should have been a seamless and relaxing stay. I hope the property reviews these issues carefully so that future guests do not encounter similar disruptions.
Given the Ritz-Carlton brand’s reputation for exceptional service and guest care, I trust management will review whether the service recovery provided appropriately reflects the amount of time and disruption caused during the stay.”

“My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our two nights spent at the Ritz in Laguna Niguel. The location and setting is outstanding. We booked an ocean view room and had a perfect balcony to overlook the ocean and sunset. Upon arrival, we were provided a glass of champagne which added to the feel of luxury. We had a few meals at Raya and the food was excellent. We were able to take lots of walks near and on the beach. My wife took a morning yoga class on the lawn overlooking the ocean. But the true highlight was their staff. They exceeded expectations in every interaction. Everyone was perfectly attentive and helpful. We had Ryan as our server for both dinner and breakfast the next morning at Raya who took great care of us including my wife who has food allergies. But the best of all was Lucas one of their bellmen. He helped us with our bags upon checkin which was great. Even better - shortly after checkin we ordered food to be delivered to the hotel. I came to pick it up in the lobby and took it back to our room. We decided to eat on the balcony but did not have a lot of utensils to use. All of a sudden there was a knock at the balcony door - someone from their room service team brought us full serving trays as if we had ordered room service directly. We didn’t ask or expect it. I saw Lucas in the lobby after this and asked about it and he said he recognized me and figured it would be helpful to have with our food. That was one of the best if not the best guest experience I’ve ever had. Needless to say we highly recommend this hotel!”
