“First, I would highly recommend bringing your own sodas, $11.00 a can for a Diet Coke. Seriously?? I found my way to the local grocery store, Ralph’s quickly. What I reluctantly paid for one, I got a 12 pack.
This is what truly made me never want to stay and Sand and Surf ever again. I day after I checked out I reviewed my Credit Card Statement. Hmmm… An additional charge. I had settled up my bill at time of checkout. I called to inquire, after a long pause, “You were charged for two beers from the mini bar?” Excuse me, I don’t drink. I took out the cans of beer, sparkling water and whatever else was in there to make room for my”affordable” sodas. There was one empty slot in the fridge, pardon me, I drank one silly Pip Soda. After another long pause, “We’ll credit you back on your credit card.” They honored that.
So, beware of incredibly expensive soft drinks and hold the front desk accountable of what you did and did not drink.
Also, $65.00 a day resort fee, for what. You can go to the pool and maybe get a chair. Very overbooked. I never enjoyed the pool because there never was accessibility to one.
Also, if you want sand, forget it.”

“I am a huge fan of Surf and Sand Laguna Beach. If you are an ocean lover you cannot get much closer to the beach. The sounds of the waves are mesmerizing. The views are majestic, atmosphere, cleanliness, and service are beyond amazing. Probably one of the best beach hotels in California. I cannot think of any negatives.”

“DISCLAIMER: this review is for the Spa only. First I want to say the spa staff were great! My wife and I had one hour couple’s massages. The massage therapists were professional and they did an excellent job. However, my gripe is with the facility itself. The location is perfect, on the pacific coast. However, you cannot see the ocean or beach from the spa. The amenities were lackluster: a small locker room, small steam room, one shower, and a gender assigned hot tub. The grounds appeared out dated and untidy. My $600 in spa services DID NOT INCLUDE POOL ACCESS! I inquired about the pool, and was advised the pool area was for hotel guests only…Prior to booking my spa appointment I was under the impression my wife and I could enjoy pool access, which has an ocean view. The massage services were incredible, however, I feel given the cost of this spa the amenities should have been better. I have spent a fraction less at other spas around the country and have had a more enjoyable experience than here at Surf and Sand.”

“We are locals and wanted a last minute staycation. Saw some prices on internet and called Hunter at the front desk. He helped me navigate the best rate and helped me get upgrade, plus early check in because I used my AX Platinum Card. Kurt was very helpful with my check in and following through with my request. We had an amazing oceanfront 2 queen studio with the waves crashing below us. Robes, slippers, beach bag, nice snacks/drinks at mini bar, beautiful bathroom, view etc. Loved the balcony furniture to enjoy the sunset. Ate breakfast at Splashes and dinner at Splashes Bar. Food was delicious. Grant at the pool bar was very attentive as was the overall staff at the pool. Food/drinks by the pool were delicious. Gabe at the valet was great too. The service, aesthetics of the hotel, staff, rooms, food/drinks, etc was top notch and worth every cent. We are already planning our next weekend away in a few months. Thanks for everything Surf and Sand!”

“I planned a special Beach vacation to celebrate my daughter’s 21 st birthday only to find out there is zero beach to relax on. The pool was overcrowded and cramped . They were aware of the celebration and did not acknowledge it . The customer service was inexcusable.We left and We were greeted at The Ritz Carlton with champagne , cake and balloons had an incredible experience ! Absolutely no comparison!”

“After living in Orange County for 50 years and walking past Surf & Sand 1 million times we finally stayed there for a 35th anniversary and it was a great trip. The room was beautiful. The view was beautiful the food it splashes is amazing. The staff was so accommodating and friendly. Ha check us in when we arrived and upgraded our room because it was our anniversary. Our waiter Aaron , at splashes for our dinner maybe the best way we’ve ever had. It’s a beautiful resort. The service was amazing. The food was amazing. I hope to stay there again soon.”
A memoriable stay for our wedding night, and a likely place to return to for special anniversaries.

The staff were gracious and made me feel at home.
Reception team provided a warm welcome and great service throughout my stay - thank you Ken, Shanny, Theo, Ebone, Maxine, and team!

The oceanfront pool provided a great vibe with comfortable chairs and fantastic service! Thank you Ashley, Korin, Leo, & Team! Unfortunately the pool closed early during several days of our stay for private events. But of course our room rate included full use of the pool. It would have been nice to be informed so we could plan our day around the closure. We often went there late afternoon to enjoy magical hour and sunset.

Poor Valet Experience

“I came to Surf & Sand Resort for a birthday dinner and, unfortunately, my experience was negatively impacted before I even made it inside the resort.
When I arrived at valet, the attendant, Simon, immediately came across as rude and unprofessional. During our interaction, he made the comment, “Do you want me to park your car or not?”, in an aggressive and disrespectful tone. Despite taking my vehicle, he never provided me with a valet ticket.
After dinner, when I returned to retrieve my car, Simon asked me for the valet ticket that he had never given me. Rather than acknowledging the mistake or working toward a solution, he became increasingly confrontational and continued escalating the situation. He ultimately threatened to call security and then did so over an issue that resulted from his own failure to provide the required ticket.
What made the situation even more disappointing was that while I was speaking with the manager about my experience, Simon stood nearby laughing. Another valet also remarked that this was not the first time there had been issues involving him, which made the interaction even more concerning.
This was supposed to be a special birthday celebration, but the experience with valet left a lasting negative impression. At a luxury resort, guests should be treated with professionalism, courtesy, and respect from the moment they arrive.
I hope management takes this feedback seriously, reviews the incident, and addresses the conduct displayed. No guest should have to deal with this type of treatment simply for using the resort’s valet service.”
