Aulani is not only beautiful, it’s breathtaking! Truly stands unique against the typical white beach hotels, and it offers fun for the whole family. The cove is nice to play in the waves and the in Rainbow Reef let me see all kinds of tropical fish up close, literally two inches from my scuba mask. That made my trip! Our room had an ocean view. However the Disney difference is in the DETAILS and the SERVICE. Aulani is an excellent storyteller of Hawaiian culture. The grand lobby is full of paintings and stories of ancestral to modern Oahu people. There are so many details in the rocks, the wood, and even the pool that you will miss if you are not looking. Joe Rohde designed it so you know it’s incredible. There are multiple pools, a water slide that sends kids and adults screaming all the way down, and adult only areas, plus the lazy river. We had a one bedroom suite. Our daughter did complain about the pull out sofa mattress being too thin and of course, there are not enough chairs at the pool…everyone gets upset about that…but that’s a small bother compared to everything the resort offers. The spa experience? Just book it! The outdoor water area at the spa is incredible. Very relaxing! I loved the water showers and even did the cold plunge (50 degees) three times! Also, you may have seen the Laua at the Disney World’s Polynesian Resort, you should still see the one at Aulani! We are hoping Aulani will expand into the empty lot next door and offer more pool areas and other experiences for DVC members only. Too many people, us included, just wanted to get to our room or the pool, but Aulani is a great educator if you slow down and take in the details.

Disappointed

“We have loved Aulani for years and have visited several times, but this trip was incredibly disappointing. The resort didn't feel like the Disney experience we've come to expect. Several pools and amenities were closed, housekeeping was inconsistent, our room often wasn't properly restocked, and overall service felt lacking throughout our stay.
The most heartbreaking part was that a sentimental family blanket disappeared from our room during housekeeping. It belonged to my late mother-in-law and was truly irreplaceable. We immediately filed a lost item report and sent follow-up emails, but never received a response.
I understand that things can go wrong, but what disappointed us most was the lack of communication and concern afterward. After years of choosing Aulani for our family vacations, this experience has made us question whether we'll return.”

“We recently completed a 5-night stay at Aulani, and it was deeply disappointing, especially given the premium price point. While the resort positions itself as a luxury destination, the overall experience was closer to a budget hotel. We booked this trip primarily for the Disney-branded children's activities, but during the busy season, these amenities were virtually unavailable due to overcrowding. The only amenities we could access were the pools, which were completely overrun and offered nothing unique compared to a standard resort. Furthermore, the isolated location makes leaving the property difficult, leaving you entirely dependent on what the resort provides.Service throughout our stay was subpar. The staff appeared poorly trained and overwhelmed; restaurant staff pushed us aside without a simple greeting, the bell desk was unavailable to assist with luggage, and the concierge repeatedly directed us to an app rather than offering actual help. Housekeeping only service rooms every other day—a massive issue for a resort catering to families with young children. When we requested extra cleaning, we were literally handed a vacuum cleaner to do it ourselves. While the food at 'AMA'AMA was excellent, all other dining options were limited and poorly prepared. Overall, the extreme lack of attentiveness and limited service options completely undermined the luxury experience we paid for.”

“I am staying at Aulani now. I am paying $1500 per night for two queen beds ocean view. When we got to the hotel, they said there was no room available with two beds and when we got to the room, there was no ocean view! Highly recommend some other place.”

“I’m going to start off with good. I traveled with 3 kids and myself. The room was nice ..I had a partial ocean view and I could see part of the garage, mountains and the ocean. No complaints on the view. The dinner options were few, but Mickey waffles for breakfast was really good! Portions are shareable unless ur a big eater. We all loved the lazy river & the beach a lot! Monkey pod which was in walking distance had really Gud food.. we went twice! We also did the Moana boat & the staff was incredible! Can’t remember their names, but we went on a Wednesday & they were excellent. The grounds are beautiful! DVC staff were great. There were multiple times to attend a session just get some info if u were interested. I only have one complaint. This affected my last 2 days. I slip in the shower, due to it being extremely slippery while bathing. The front desk did come & bring the requested ice pack. My lip swelled and I could barely eat & I had pain the remainder of my trip & continued for a bit after I arrived home. Why a shower slip map is NOT offered when checking in or visible in the bathroom is concerning. I was offered one after the incident. Security & manager said a investigation would happen. I asked could I b informed of their findings. Everyone was silent. I hope it doesn’t happen to any future guests so please be mindful of safety concerns. That was my only issue & concern.”
Horrible experience - we feel like we need to re-do our honeymoon
2/10
nicolefB4274ZN · Couples · 2026-06-21
“My husband and I stayed at the Aulani for our honeymoon last month, and the experience we had was unacceptable and fell far below the standard that should be expected of a Disney property—particularly for a once-in-a-lifetime occasion.
The issues we encountered were not minor inconveniences, but a series of significant failures that impacted nearly every aspect of our stay on a vacation we will never be able to re-live. Additionally, I have repeatedly been trying to get on the phone with someone who can discuss these issues with me, but I keep getting passed off to different Aulani employees, with each person saying that this issue "is not within their wheelhouse."
1. Spa Access Failure
Despite multiple attempts before arrival, we were unable to book any spa services at Aulani. Calls were not answered and subsequent voicemails were never returned. As a result, we booked services at the Four Seasons next door. It is unacceptable that a core amenity of the resort was effectively inaccessible.
2. Complete Lack of Honeymoon Acknowledgment
We were asked at least five separate times, between booking, confirmation, and check in, what occasion we were celebrating and consistently informed staff that we were on our honeymoon. Despite this, there was absolutely ZERO acknowledgment of this whatsoever—no note in our room, no amenity, no recognition of ANY kind. This reflects a complete breakdown in attention to guest experience and is particularly disappointing given Disney’s reputation.
Why ask several times what we're celebrating if you're going to completely ignore it??
3. Room Misrepresentation
We paid for a garden view room with a king bed. Instead, we were assigned a room with *two queen beds" and a view that was largely of a parking garage. Like, really?? At no point in the description of the garden view category on the Aulani website was a parking structure mentioned as part of the view of that type of room. That disclosure appears only under the lower-tier “standard view” category. This was misleading, and I have photographs clearly documenting the view we received.
4. Inadequate and Dismissive Response
When I called to raise what I believed was a reasonable concern regarding the room assignment, I was met with a dismissive response and told, in effect, that nothing could be done. The only alternative offered was an ocean view room at an additional cost of approximately $1,100 per night. This was neither a reasonable solution nor an appropriate way to handle the situation, especially given that it was our honeymoon, we we expressed several times during our stay when asked, including at check-in.
5. Excessive Delay with Luggage Delivery
After requesting delivery of our bags, it took approximately one hour for them to arrive. After about 20 minutes, I called and asked for an update on our bags, I was told that there were “two bags ahead” of me, and it took another 30 minutes after that for the bags to actually arrive. We were told we had to remain in the room to receive them, which forced us to delay our dinner plans and spend the first part of our evening waiting in the hotel room for our bags. This lack of coordination and inefficiency further compounded the frustration of the stay.
Save yourself the frustration and money - stay elsewhere.”

“Aulani exceeded every expectation and was the perfect way to experience Hawaii with our family. The resort is absolutely stunning, with beautiful Hawaiian theming woven into every detail. It truly feels like Disney magic meets authentic Hawaiian culture.
The pools and lazy river were a huge hit, and there was always something fun for both kids and adults to do. Our son loved exploring the resort, meeting characters, and splashing in the water. The beach is calm, beautiful, and perfect for families.
One of my favorite experiences was the spa. The hydrotherapy garden was incredible, especially the hot tubs, cold plunge, and relaxation areas. It was the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a little peace during our vacation.
The Cast Members were wonderful and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. While Aulani is certainly a premium vacation destination, the experience, service, and memories made it worth every penny.
If you’re looking for a family-friendly Hawaiian resort that combines relaxation, adventure, culture, and Disney magic, Aulani is hard to beat. We are already dreaming about our next visit!”

“We brought our 4yr old here in late May and had a blast. Plotting a return trip. As others have said, you pay a Disney premium here, for everything. That said, it was magical for our son, and watching him live the magic was magical for us.
I do recommend a poolside room. We got extra lucky and were on ground floor. That meant direct access to the pool complex from our patio which was awesome. Villa-style rooms have kitchens and laundry which are really convenient. We had breakfast in our room most days (toast and fruit from grocery store) which saved some cost. We also refrigerated leftovers from dinners to heat up for lunch following day. There is an ABC store across the street where you can buy food off-resort. Or you can go to Safeway or Costco if you have a car. On property, there are multiple food options, all with kid-friendly options. Or you can order from your pool chair, which is super convenient.
On pool chairs…do believe the hype! You must claim them early, and maintain some presence in the chair. My husband was taking the early excercise classes (beach yoga, paddleboard yoga) so after that, he’d grab us chairs while I got our son dressed and fed. Chairs are much more available on the beach.
Beach is great. Calm water is great for young kids. There was lots of boogie boarding and sandcastling and dad-burying going on. The sun is bright out there. Sunscreen up! You can borrow sand toys for free and the snack shack opens at 11.
Pools are great. Main pool has a zero entry edge. There are pool party’s a couple times a week in the afternoon. And the water playground was a huge hit with our kiddo.
Characters are around throughout the day. They post the schedule in the app each day so you know where to go. For our son, this was the best part, he loved it! The staff are all wonderful. I was really impressed.
If you value the Disney-ness of it all, just understand the pricing going in. For us, the magic was really special and enjoyed. By all three of us. And we appreciated that every space had children in mind. We utilized the kids club (book early) and did some of our own meals. Hawaii is expensive, and this is at a premium. But i’ve been scrolling through our photos everyday since we got back home. My kid is beaming in all of them.”

“As I sit here on the ocean view balcony in my 1 br unit, I can’t say it isn’t beautiful. Oahu is a special place. It’s lovely and Disney has done an outstanding job bringing a slice Disney to Hawaii. What I can’t be pleased about is the cost of food. Most everyone will tell you that food prices are high in Hawaii, but that just isn’t true. There are many many places we went to enjoy dinners and total bill was just under $100.00 for four adults. Sadly, this being a family friendly property is nothing close. Every restaurant is price gouging here and there are no other alternatives other than to cook in the room. Dinner for kids at over 100 each with a price fixe menu and limited choices? I think not. You’d think there’d be a little Obama restaurant like at Disneyworld but no. Other than food options, it’s lovely. Rooms spacious, views at pool area are incredible. Fix the restaurant situation and you’ll get more bookings for sure.”

“This is our 3rd time at Aulani and the resort has deteriorated in quality and service. The cost for the resort has increased considerably but otherwise the rooms have gone downhill. The rooms have aged and they are not well kept. They now only give basic amenities ie. a soap bar and lotion on the counter top. There was no blow dryer or robes, etc. The pool area and main lobby area are beautiful as per previous - but the service is not good. When speaking to the manager about the concerns we had about the room, the response was “this is just the way it is”. It’s just unfortunate as the experience we had twice before was much better.”

“First off, I did enjoy my stay here at Aulani. I really did, It's just that there are weird, very DIsney quirks that bugged me. The resort is beautiful. There are 4 different pools, one being adults only and another is the Lazy River. There are multiple places to sit for the day away from children, near children, near the pools, on the beach in the shade and on and on, Yes the hair game if big, but I watched and there were always chairs on the beach and fatther away from the pools. I stayed on the hotel side and had an ocean view room with a king bed and balcony. I slept like a baby. The bath has a bath and shower and was loaded up with towels. Every staff member was wonderful and kind. On my way to dinner one night I saw a staff member from the cleaning crew, standing and waving hello to folks with a roll of stickers he was giving out to kids with their parents. They were delighted. being on my ownm I rented a Casabella daily at $110. It's added up, but I need shade and this is the way I could guarantee it. They are 2 seated cabanas and are comfortable. Generally the prices are siilar to other resorts in Hawaii. I did have a problem with a banana costing $5. For some reason that was a line I wouldn't cross. And finally, seeing the characters throughout the day was a delight I didn't know I would love.
Here is what bugged me about Aulani which I understand is common to most Disney properties: No glassware in the room, except for paper cups for the Keurig. I was in a hotel room, not DVC. Room cleaning is only every other day. Some may prefer that, I didn't. One of the pleasures of staying at a nice resort is a room that is cleaned daily. I could call for new towels if needed. I think what frosts me the most is this all done in the guise of environmental preservation, but there is plastic everywhere here and it just doesn't add up for me. The bands for the pool are fine, but perhaps they could make them easier to remove? You need to find someone to cut it off of you. All of these are minor but it's what bugged me. It may not bother you. If you can afford it and you want to have a great famiy vacation, this is an amazing option.”
Aulani is beautiful, but the overall experience did not match the extremely high price

“Aulani is beautiful, but the overall experience did not match the extremely high price. The room quality felt average for what we paid, and the food was shockingly expensive with no breakfast included and no affordable family dining options. For a resort marketed to families, this was disappointing.
The staff experience was inconsistent. Some cast members were warm and kind, while others were dismissive or ignored us. It often felt like service depended on tipping expectations for things I would gladly do myself.
Activities were limited and booked up immediately. For a resort of this size and cost, I expected enough availability for all guests to enjoy the full Aulani experience.
We also experienced a full‑day power outage with no communication from the hotel. No updates, no explanation, and no real accommodations beyond someone singing from a balcony. For the price point, this lack of communication was unacceptable.
Overall, the resort is visually stunning, and we made great memories, but the value simply wasn’t there. Our best experiences were actually off‑property during excursions. Aulani is beautiful, but not aligned with the cost.”
Beautiful Resort, but Pest Issues and Poor Response Took Away From the Experience
4/10
Kawtsu · Family · 2026-05-05
“My family and I recently stayed at Aulani, and while the resort itself is beautiful and there were certainly parts of the trip we enjoyed, our overall experience was unfortunately overshadowed by serious cleanliness and pest concerns.
During our stay, we discovered ants running across the kitchen area in our room. This was not just a few ants. It appeared to be a clear infestation. I have video showing the extent of the ant issue and what we experienced during our stay. We also spotted roaches on the property, which added to our concern and disappointment.
Instead of spending our time relaxing, enjoying the resort, and making the most of what was supposed to be a special Disney vacation, we spent valuable vacation time dealing with pest problems, contacting the front desk, waiting for housekeeping, and following up in person to get the room issue addressed.
We contacted the front desk right away. The initial call did not seem to be taken as seriously as we had hoped, and it was only after I went to the front desk in person that housekeeping was promptly sent to the room. To their credit, housekeeping did come, took photos, cleaned the area, and attempted to resolve the situation. However, by that point, the disruption had already taken away from our stay.
What made the experience even more frustrating was the response afterward. Nothing was initially offered to address the time we lost, the food we had to throw away, or the overall inconvenience of dealing with ants in our room during a vacation we spent over $8,000 on. When we asked about compensation, we were told housekeeping did not have the authority to offer anything, which I understand. However, after speaking with a manager, we were told nothing further could be done beyond a $100 credit, which felt very disappointing given the circumstances.
The most upsetting part was the suggestion that we may have brought the ants in ourselves or that we should have reported the issue at check-in. That response felt dismissive and shifted responsibility onto us instead of acknowledging the seriousness of the problem. As someone with over 20 years of experience in the pest control industry, I found that explanation very hard to accept.
I hate to put this out there, but I feel obligated to share our experience. Many families save for a long time for a trip like this, and they deserve to know what they could potentially experience, especially when paying Disney resort prices and expecting a certain standard of cleanliness and service.
Aulani is a beautiful property and has the potential to be an incredible vacation experience, but this stay did not meet the standard I expected from Disney. The pest issues themselves were bad enough, but the time wasted addressing them and the lack of a meaningful response made the experience much more disappointing.
I truly hope management takes these types of cleanliness concerns more seriously in the future. Guests should not have to spend their vacation dealing with ants in their room, food loss, and repeated follow-up just to have an issue properly addressed.”

“The experience is good overall. It didn't feel like any special Disney vacation.
The rooms are bland, even a disney character painting would add some charm.
Only two water slides: one open (need tubes) and one covered. There is a wait time in both depending on when you go there.
They shouldn't have cancelled events during the rainy days:
- Why cancel the free "indoor" craft event? It's indoors.
- Outdoor movie-night could have happened inside their huge ballrooms.
The best activity was 1 hour "Menehune adventure trail", free and always available unless raining.
The ukulele and sketching classes were good. The property is nice however the Disney experience is very limited. There is always a character available after 12pm however we covered all characters over two days. And then these meet-n-greets became repetitive. There were a couple of fun pool parties with the characters performing for you.
If you are not an early riser, there is absolutely no hope of getting a chair.
I cannot comment on the Kids Club (Aunty's Beach House), only kids are allowed inside. We were not even allowed to peek, my kids were happy though.
Should book all the free activities and dining slots as soon as they open (45 days ago) OR else you got to show up every morning 7.30am to grab a walk-in slot.
To be honest we were expecting a lot more for the price tag.”
Thank you

“Ko Olina is the opposite of Waikiki and Aulani is gorgeous. The hotel has a large inviting lobby with Hawaii theme that embraces heritage. The property is enormous. The grounds and gardens and especially the Koi pond are beautiful. The staff were great and polite. We had a deluxe studio ocean view. The room was typical Disney layout but could use updating and in my opinion more theming. The highlight of the property are the pools, lazy river, slides, and lagoon.”

“We loved our stay! The pools and splash pad are a blast. The front desk kindly moved our room to the other side of the resort when our first room was above the kids club (it was very noisy!) and we loved the room they moved us to. It’s expensive, but worth it for us with having two kids under 5. The character dining was one of our favorite experiences on resort and we loved all the Disney magic.”

“This is our 7th trip to Aulani. We have been visiting since the grand opening in 2011. We are not DVC owners. I do regret not buying during our first visit but I didn’t really see myself coming back to the same place so frequently. That was not our traveling style back then but ko olina has been home away from home.
That said, as a non-DVC owner, I feel like we are priced out of Aulani. As the main building is for DVC owners, there is only one building left for hotel guests. With limited supply, the demand is high. During this visit, we only stayed for one night, simply so we can use the resort for 2 whole days.
As we have visited frequently, we have seen the changes. Gone are the days of the welcome leis, no lines for the characters, and being able to use auntys beach house for the kids. Most of the things get booked out months in advance, way before we even decide to come. The biggest change, though, is how nuts it is to get a place to sit by the pool. It’s crazy. My husband woke up early for a work call and decided to sit by the pool to take the call. He witnessed so many people being rude just to get a seat. This turned us off. There really isn’t a good system to control it either. We only saw the policing of the chairs in the afternoon, and this is when there was the most availability.
We have so many fond memories here but I’m not sure we will be back.”

“We have been to Disney Aulani 3 previous times, this was the worst. For context, we have been to disneyland hotel, hotel Californian, disneyland, disney world, disney sea, disney tokyo, disney Paris, and multiple Disney cruises. Aulani just isn't worth it anymore. They don't put the effort in to provide an authentic Disney experience. Gone are the welcome lei's, nothing at all special to welcome you to the resort. At this price point, turn down service and daily cleaning is no longer offered, it's every other day cleaning. Be prepared to go at 5:30 am to reserve your pool.chair. The character breakfast used to be a buffet, now send $57 for 3 pancakes, a donut, and juice out of a can. There isn't any fresh pog juice or orange juice. Gone are the fresh tropical fruit. Now you spend one minute with stitch and Pluto as your "characters", they used to have more. Overall over the years the experience has been diluted and the prices have only gone up.”
