This was our first stay on the north coast after staying in the Lihue area two years ago at another Marriott Vacation Club (we are owners who trade for different places each year). Overall this is a nice place - seems well maintained and wasn’t overly crowded during our stay in late July, which is a good time weather-wise to visit. We were in building 4, which is best for people with mobility issues or who just want to be close to the lobby and the one covered parking structure. Knowing what I do now I would request building 5, which is closer to the pool and grills. Our place overlooked a private golf course and ocean beyond that; pretty, but I wouldn’t have chosen a golf view with golfers and groundskeepers right outside. The restaurant has limited hours and the convenience store is very small, so you’ll need to shop at Foodland a short drive away - too far to walk. The kitchen was not as good as some other places we’ve stayed in terms of furnishings, size and layout. Bed was comfortable and HVAC worked well. Good shower and large bathroom. I would recommend this place but in the future would probably stay closer to Lihue again where most of the activities and shopping are. It’s an hour’s drive away.

Loved most

  • Comfortable beds and spacious villas
  • Beautiful ocean and golf-course views
  • Pools and hot tubs kept clean
  • Friendly staff and excellent masseuse (Ellis)
  • Access to 1 Hotel's beach (valet) and nearby beach options

Worth knowing — Bed bugs reported by one guest (serious cleanliness concern) · Restaurant with limited hours and small marketplace · Not on the beach and about an hour from Lihue (remote for some) · Nene (geese) droppings around grounds · No pool bar and limited concierge service

How guests scored the stay

  • Service10.0

Generally friendly staff and helpful service (valet access at 1 Hotel, praised massage therapist); concierge service was noted as lacking but overall staff interactions were positive.

  • Room Quality9.5

Large villas with comfortable beds, good showers and spacious bathrooms; some kitchens/furnishings were described as less well-equipped compared to other properties.

  • Location9.0

Beautiful ocean and golf-course views on the north coast; not directly on the beach and about an hour from Lihue, but guests have day access to 1 Hotel's beach (valet).

  • Amenities9.0

Nice pools and hot tubs kept clean, on-site Nanea Restaurant, grills, and beach access via nearby partner properties; limited marketplace and no pool bar were noted.

  • Overall Experience9.0

Overall a solid, peaceful choice on the north coast with roomy units and good amenities, tempered by a serious cleanliness report (bed bugs), limited dining hours, and some remoteness.

  • Value for Money8.5

Mixed value: many positive attributes (space, views, pools) but limited dining options, small convenience store, and remote location affect perceived value for some guests.

  • Food and Beverage8.2

On-site Nanea Restaurant received praise (including a Mother's Day buffet) but guests complained about reduced kitchen hours (now 7:30 pm) and limited marketplace options.

“Look. Nice place, can view the ocean. But any place where the restaurant and any beach eatery shuts down at 7:30 pm and they DO NOT TELL YOU at check in that you’re out of luck for dinner is severally lacking in the humane department. Last year kitchen closed at 9. Now it’s 7:30 pm. Yes, before sundown. No knowledge, no heads up. You’re on your own here. They act as if we should just go with it.”

  • Lovely resort! Guests get access at 1 Hotel's beach.

“Loved this place - peaceful, beautiful ocean and golf course views from our room in Building 4. Large villas, comfortable beds. Great meals at the onsite Nanea Restaurant, including a nice Mother's Day buffet. Pools and hot tubs were kept clean from the Nene's. Staff was friendly, although the concierge service was lacking... A few things I wish I would have known ahead of time: - Guests get day access at 1 Hotel's beach. We valet parked for free, had lunch at their restaurant then took the elevators down to the beautiful, quiet beach on the side of Hanalei Bay. - Rental chairs and umbrellas are available to rent at the Westin for exploring area beaches. That is much easier than driving to rent at Kapaa or Hanalei Bay -Wyillie's Beach (end of Anini) is accessible by a steep walk down from the Westin's parking lot, right before the entrance. It's a beautiful calm(er) beach with good snorkeling.”

  • This is a very basic time share resort.

“This was a very basic time share resort. No bellmen, no pool bar and it is not on the beach. We stayed in building 2 and it was very clean and I think recently updated. The resort pool is very pretty and there are plenty of lounge chairs. The Nene (Hawaiian Geese) are a bit annoying and poop all over the place. Maintenance workers do come by and sweep up poop, but it gave me the icks. We were only there for 3 nights which was perfect, There is only one restaurant at the resort and a very small marketplace to purchase snacks, coffee and other necessities. I can honestly say if I went back to Kauai I would not stay there.”

  • Simply, one of the best.

“An exceptional resort on Kaua’i’s North Shore. On a promontory overlooking the ocean, these villas surround pools and beautifully manicured gardens. The villas themselves are fully equipped. Home from home (maybe, better than most homes!!!) and while you can do your own cooking in the villas or at the grills dotted about the grounds, there is also a cozy restaurant on site and a fitness centre, too. The staff sets this place apart. They are all charming and helpful. Nothing is too troublesome. A car would be very useful to visit all the beautiful sites on the Island. You are sure to have a splendid time here.”

Ricardo was kind enough to give us a refund. He was very nice, very understanding and is an excellent representative for the Marriott l vacation club. Thank you Ricardo”

“Horrible vacation ownership trade! We found 3 roaches crawling in the kitchen and bathroom. We told the manager, showed him a video and he just said, “Sorry, I’ll tell the engineer” then walked off. We checked out early.”

  • BEWARE- public health concern!!

    4/10

    L7038PPkristinf · Couples · 2026-03-29

“During our stay at the Westin Vacation Club in February 2026, we were exposed to roof‑cleaning chemicals while sitting on our patio, with active spraying occurring directly above us and no barriers, warnings, or restricted access below. The chemical made contact with my skin and produced a strong odor, raising immediate health concerns. As a retired chemical engineer, I was particularly alarmed by the risk of aerosolized chemicals, which can pose respiratory and skin hazards—especially for seniors, children, and immunocompromised guests. Chlorine‑based solutions interacting with roof biofilm can also create harmful byproducts, and runoff was observed flowing to ground level where birds and ducks were present. Despite reporting this promptly and requesting basic chemical safety information, we never received it. Even more concerning, similar unsafe cleaning practices continued on nearby buildings. We were told by Marriott to expect a response within 3–5 business days, but more than a month later we have heard nothing. This raises serious concerns about guest and animal health and overall safety practices at the resort. As Marriott Bonvoy Platinum members for years, we are incredibly concerned and do not recommend staying at this resort.”

  • Lovely Villas

“Had a lovely time. Kauai is so laid back. The Westin Ocean Villas were so nice. The area around the pool was kept clean even with the roosters and hens. Easy to get chaise lounges by the pool although there are always some people that get up early and place a towel to “save” their seat and don’t come out for hours. Grocery store was close. We stopped at Costco, as well. Had a nice time.”

  • Disappointing stay, even with lowered expectations

    4/10

    sraju7 · Family · 2026-02-21

“We only had about three days/four nights in Kauai so we made a calculus - we opted instead of the very fancy hotel to instead a fairly decent one since our stay was short and we would be out adventuring for most of our time there. Even with that lowered expectation, The Westin in Princeville failed to meet that standard. The property is in a more resort-built up area of the island, which we probably should have known in advance. So while it is on the coast with a lovely view of the ocean, it is surrounded by time shares and the like. When we arrived, we were given a soft pitch by the very kind concierge to return for an optional longer pitch in which we would get some gift certificates. This is probably an indication of where the priorities are for this property (we did not attend the longer pitch). When directed to our room, we were told - there will be parking near your building and luggage carts. Not once when we were there were we able to find parking anywhere close to our unit and there were, of course, no luggage carts - which was not at all convenient traveling as the lone adult that day with two small children and several bags. This was, mind you, a Tuesday afternoon in February when we checked in. The rooms are subpar with a very very small kitchenette, but I can say the positive is that we had a washer and dryer in the unit - which I admit was very helpful. The food in the restaurant was average. All of these issues are minor annoyances that I could've handled, but the big one was this - they had a green policy in which they would've come one day to clean. Okay, fine - we understand that's what some hotels are doing. If that's the case, then, you count on the hotel to live up to its word that they'll clean on the ONE DAY they say they will. The Westin did not. We were gone for 15 hours that day and we returned to a room in the same condition we left it with no clean towels on our final night in the room. They did, however, not fail to forget to hang on our door an invitation to pay for a discounted stay if we joined their vacation club. This was the cherry on top. Sometimes its good to know where not to stay, and for us we will not return to The Westin in Princeville on our next trip to Kauai. Not worth the price or the pitches.”

  • Westin Princeville cursed as a Marriott Vacation Club

    6/10

    G5969CBalicec · Family · 2026-02-19

“Service was lovely but the place has fallen into the Marriott Vacation Club (MVC) and really gone downhill. This is our 3rd or 4th time visiting and I don’t think we will be coming back. PROS: + Great customer service, everyone from housekeeping to concierge services is lovely CONS: - Amenities and grounds do not match the standards of a Westin villa. We own a timeshare at the Westin Nanea in Maui and the experiences are vastly different - Rooms and overall buildings need a major glow up, which I believe are coming late 2026 - Having only 1 restaurant with limited menu and service (breakfast only on Sundays, no poolside dining) is a major downside IMHO I had a soft spot for this Westin as I had my baby moon there but I no longer think it’s worth the money or timeshare points. Hoping the remodel helps things a bit in the future.”

  • Beware of the Nenne

    4/10

    steveg11sings2025 · Couples · 2026-01-27

“This resort has great staff, the restaurant has excellent meals. It’s a beautiful island with lush, green forests and waterfalls. The reason we gave it a lower review than others is because of the influx of the prolific amount of Nenne Hawaiian goose ( a cousin to the Canada goose) walking around. These birds have free reign over the resort and are allowed to swim in the various pools, defecate all over the property and are strictly protected ( you are not allowed to even shoo them away). Due to the above we would not swim in the pools due to the concern about bird fecal contamination. We probably wouldn’t return.”

  • Good, but not great

    8/10

“This was our second time staying at this resort. The staff is professional. The resort has a relaxing vibe. The grounds are nicely maintained, our room was very clean, and bed comfortable. Two reasons for 4 instead of 5 stars: guest room was a bit dated and lobby had a bunch of promotional banners and signs. The tacky marketing signage in the lobby detracts from the peaceful tranquility of this resort. Overall it was a good stay.”

  • Poor value

“Service was not great - no offer to help with bags when we came. The room was okay, but not ideal. Gym was not good, and restaurant not that good either. But the worst part was we found cockroaches in the bathroom and close to the kitchenette multiple nights in a row. For what we paid per night for this room, the experience was very poor and not a good value at all. Would not stay here again.”
