How guests scored the stay
Service10.0
Mixed reports: valet repeatedly praised as very kind and helpful; some staff were curt or short with answers. Overall many staff interactions were helpful, especially guest-facing services (e.g., valet), leading to a strong overall service impression.
Location10.0
Consistently praised: great location, beautiful scenery, easy access to activities (dolphins, sunsets) and large resort grounds — location is a clear strength.
Overall Experience9.0
Mixed overall: standout moments (dolphin experience, sunsets, scenery, renovated rooms) contrasted with operational and access issues (closures, long walks, towels, pricing). Guests had strong positive experiences in key areas but notable drawbacks affected expectations.
Room Quality8.5
Mixed: some rooms are recently renovated and clean, while others are old and have odor issues; room layout (pullout couch availability) affected assigned tower and guest convenience.
Amenities7.5
Strong amenities such as a huge pool, slide and on-property activities (dolphins), but operational problems noted: pool slide/time closures, towel shortages, lack of shade umbrellas (often pay-only), slow monorail, and some broken boats/trains/lagoon issues.

“I've been coming to this hotel at least 5+ times. We took our family to have a great summer vacation memory our daughter is still talking about how much fun she had. Its a veryyyyy big property so be prepared to walk further than your other smaller hotels (We'd rather have a bigger hotel than a smaller footprint). The boats from a while back are discontinued, but I'm hearing that something even more special is in the works (Super exited!). The food is great, the staff is awesome. When we went the tram was still working 3/4 of it, but just not in a small portion of it to the Makai tower. They had to do emergency repairs to that very small portion of the track (that's almost done) to make sure customers are safe while being on the tram (very important safety first so it was ok for us to walk that small portion to Makai tower, we would rather be safe than sorry later). The stand up paddle boarding was super fun we even seen turtles in the water! The room views were amazing too I suggest getting the ocean view rooms. Overall my family had a blast my kids didn't want to even get out of the pools or leave the hotel to go home!”
No regrets.

“I truly don’t understand why so many people are knocking this resort down in reviews.
I’ll start here. There is a lot of walking - the canal boats are no longer in use, and the tram system is under construction. While this is not a problem for us, I can understand why some people might not enjoy getting their 10k steps a day on property. We enjoyed our steps through the walking museums, and all the gorgeous and chill views. I could not complain for a million dollars - feeling the ocean breeze everywhere was worth the 10 billion steps!
Another complaint I am seeing is about how much of a family friendly resort this is. If you want quaint romance, go to the Mauna Kea hotel. If you want cool pools, a private lagoon to explore, and things to do on site, come here. My kids loved it.
10/10 for our family. A huge and pretty property. Zero complaints!!!
FYI, there is not sandy beach access, but there is a sandy private lagoon to explore, and a sandy pool with sandy beach.”
Not the Hilton Experience We Expected

“Our room had a large puddle of water covering much of the floor, soaking our socks, and the air conditioning was not working properly, making the room uninhabitable.
When we called the front desk, we were transferred to Housekeeping instead of receiving assistance. I then went to the front desk, where the employee assisting us, Mike, was dismissive and inattentive. We were moved to a lower-floor room with a much poorer view than the one we had reserved, and no one apologized for the room condition or the inconvenience.
What disappointed us most was how management handled the situation. There was no apology or effort to make things right, and we were made to feel like we were the inconvenience. We decided to leave and find accommodations that better reflected the price we had paid. When I asked to cancel the remaining two nights, I was told we would be charged for the first night plus a $100 cancellation fee.
Please be careful not to pay premium prices. Stay in the Palace Tower for less $ and the same resort experience.”
Memorable Anniversary

“My husband and I stayed at the Hilton Waikoloa Village to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary, and we're so glad we chose this property! Everything about our stay was exceptional. From the beautiful grounds to the welcoming and friendly staff, the only thing we wished for was that we never had to leave.
Before our arrival, I let the hotel know we would be celebrating our anniversary, and they made us feel so special. We were greeted with leis at check-in, and when we arrived at our room, we found thoughtful treats and a handwritten note from the General Manager waiting for us.
We spent many days snorkeling in the lagoon, where we saw an incredible variety of fish we had never seen before, along with countless sea turtles. I already miss our morning swims! We also spent hours relaxing at the large pool near the Lagoon Tower. Even with plenty of guests enjoying it, the pool never felt crowded or cramped thanks to its generous size.
I noticed some reviews mentioning that the trams were slow and the wait for them was long. If we didn't feel like waiting, we simply enjoyed walking through the Museum Walk and admiring the fascinating collection of artifacts on display. The air-conditioned tram was a welcome break from the heat, and sometimes we'd hop aboard even when we were headed in a different direction, just to enjoy the beautiful views of the property and cool off. We were on island time, so there was never any need to rush. Slowing down and soaking it all in became part of the vacation.
We stayed in the Makai Tower, and our room was fantastic—beautifully updated, comfortable, and with an air conditioner that worked perfectly. I usually travel with my own pillows, but I had overpacked and didn't have room this time. As it turned out, I was glad I left them at home! My husband and I enjoyed some of the best sleep we've had in years thanks to Hilton's incredibly comfortable pillows. I liked them so much that after we returned home, I reached out to the General Manager to ask who manufactured them because I'd forgotten to check the tags before we left. We've since ordered the exact same pillows and can't wait for them to arrive.
Our anniversary trip exceeded every expectation, and Hilton Waikoloa Village played a huge part in making it so memorable. We left with wonderful memories, feeling completely relaxed and already looking forward to returning someday.”

“Nice enough, but pools crowded with day guests, the resort is exceptionally expensive, and not a towel to be seen anywhere. Empty towel kiosks at every pool, and in every lobby, everywhere. For the price, you’d think a towel would be included.”
VERY DISAPPOINTING!

“This was our "once-in-many-years" big vacation and we were disappointed in this place!
This Village is located on about 6 blocks of property. (three separate buildings for hotel rooms, a main lobby, plus other buildings for restaurants, etc.). The only parking lots were at the main lobby building. It was nearly 3/4 mile from our building to the main lobby. Their tram service was extremely limited - we had to wait nearly a half an hour to get anywhere. According to other guests, they used to have a boat shuttle service that has not worked in years and one of their two trams was out of commission. While a 3/4 mile walk is not ridiculous, it is difficult in the Hawaii summer heat and humidity! Needless to say, that walk to the lobby/car got old quickly!
We were only able to catch the tram with less than a 10 minute wait twice in the week we were there. If they aren't going to have a tram service that is more frequent, they need to find a way to allow people to park their cars closer to their rooms!
Yes, we did mention this to the folks at the front desk. They offered to move us to the Makai Tower that was closer to the main lobby for an $80/day upcharge. We were so sick of walking, that we took them up on it. So, we packed up our bags, waited 30 minutes for the tram to get to our new "upgraded" room. It was a dump! While it had an oceanfront view, the air conditioning was not working, the wallpaper was peeling and the only place to put a towel when you showered was on the toilet.
We asked to have our old room back and for additional bath towels, since we had put all of our old ones on a pile on the floor when we originally left for the "upgraded" room. We were assured by the front desk that the towels would be there by the time we arrived back at our old room (which took nearly 30 minutes - waiting for tram). Of course, the towels were not there... We should have known! It took nearly 5 hours, 4 phone calls and an offer by us to go to the linen closed to finally get them ourselves. (They delivered the towels at 1 am - leaving them outside our door - didn't even bother to knock).
Another thing we noticed was how hard it was to use the $18/day credit for being Hilton Honors members. They had limited the places it could be used so significantly, that it became almost worthless. There were several other folks we met there who noted the same thing.
We felt like we spent half of our vacation at this resort either waiting for the tram or walking. Had we known, we would have selected a different hotel - there was a Marriott right down the street.
VERY DISAPPOINTING!”
