“Loved that the history of the building features large in the establishment, making it possible to imagine the firemen and trucks at work while enjoying a fine meal in the cavernous (but not noisy) Apparatus Room restaurant/bar. Little touches left in place like a small hinged window in the hallway and a painting of a fire fighter surrounded by hose and accoutrements on the 3rd floor. Our Foundation King room was airy with tall windows, superb bedding, and the addition of a movable couch and bench offered a great degree of flexibility in seating. Interesting lighting fixtures and a mini fridge filled with a variety of beverages which we removed to use the fridge for our own items. Large walk in shower with a non-slip tiled floor and glorious rain head. The proximity to Hart Plaza is fabulous for Jazz Fest attendees. The Guardian building is not to be missed for architecture enthusiasts. And the Qline on Woodward makes getting to the DIA, library, symphony hall quick and easy!”

“Old building but well maintained. The hotel is just across the street from the Huntington Place. Comfortable bed, nice bathroom. Complimentary fresh coffee near the main floor elevator, which was nice.”

“My husband and I had plans to see a concert in Mexicantown and decided to turn it into a late summer overnight in Detroit (and took advantage of the locals’ discount rate). Having heard great things about this hotel, we were not disappointed! The room was spacious and stylish, with a large TV, cute little couch, and a comfy bed. Really tasteful and luxe furnishings, and a great little minibar. Hard to beat LE LABO shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and soap. The hotel renovation itself is stunning, keeping with its historic charm while infused with a dark, sexy lobby that overlooks the excellent restaurant. Free coffee greets you by the elevators in the morning, and Sunday brunch at The Apparatus Room was extraordinary (loved the DJ too). We opted for the late checkout which gave us time to enjoy a post-brunch walk along the Riverwalk before heading home. Of course the Detroit Foundation Hotel is not on the budget end of downtown hotels, but it offers a lot of timeless luxury for a fair rate. We’ll definitely return!”

    “Beautiful!”

  • Made my son’s first concert weekend feel magical

“We had such a wonderful stay at the Foundation Hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful, the rooms are comfortable, the amenities feel luxurious, and the service was excellent throughout our stay. But what really made it special was the team, especially John, the concierge, who was absolutely wonderful to deal with. We were in Detroit to take our son to his very first concert, and John and the team went above and beyond to make it memorable. When we arrived, there was a note waiting for him, welcoming him by name and wishing him an amazing first concert, along with a little gift. He thought it was pure magic and kept asking us, “But how did they know I was coming?!” It was such a thoughtful gesture and turned a great hotel stay into a memory our family will genuinely keep. We loved our stay and are already looking for an excuse to come back to Detroit so we can stay at the Foundation again.”

  • Staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a good stay. Extra shout out to the valets who even tracked down some ju

“Worst $500/night hotel I've ever stayed at. Broken A/C, 2:00 am room move. Bar & Restaurant closed for private event (that's fine), cant do room service. Won't provide an order of fries and a coke? Don't be in a hurry for your valet parked vehicle. Easily 10-15 minutes.”

“We enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Detroit Foundation Hotel. The adaptive reuse of this historic building is thoughtfully done, preserving its character while creating a stylish, comfortable hotel. Although we arrived very late (we messaged ahead), the valet was ready to park our car. The staff was welcoming and genuinely helpful, especially in explaining the history of the building and quickly addressing a thermostat issue. Our room was spotless, the bed and sofa were comfortable, and the Le Labo toiletries were a wonderful touch. We really liked the mixture of historic and industrial design. We were able to walk easily to restaurants, the Riverwalk, and the QLINE.”
