  • Prices high like the surrounding mountains--but value doesn't match up.

“You'd think you're going to go to Paradise, but it ain't. The website makes you think you have 37 activities available--and what do you really get? A spa (in a converted room, the real one is being redone); a few dusty hiking/biking paths; a pond with 2 old paddleboards and with leeches in it. The guides are nice but the fishing and Yellowstone trips are EXTREMELY expensive. In theory you can horseback ride but it's actually too hot in the summer so they discourage it, and there's no availability anyhow. The location--quite remote, nearest towns are 30m in each direction. Rooms (we had a house) are the best feature and restaurants are fine but there could be more outdoor seating. Most of all, the place would desperately need a pool, not 2 little hot tubs for 3-4 people each.”

  • Great end to a Yellowstone trip

“We spent three nights at Sage Lodge at the end of a long Yellowstone trip and it was a really nice place to land. Our room was comfortable and opened right out toward the pond, which was perfect with a seven-year-old. Between the fly rods and nets available at the pond, paddleboards, lawn and other kids around, he could actually go outside and make his own fun instead of needing another scheduled activity. Both restaurants were good and particularly appreciated after a long stretch inside the parks. The activities were the highlight for us: the llama hike with Susi was wonderfully weird and fun, and our Yellowstone River float in the wooden boat with Anders was beautiful. My son and I also did a fly-fishing lesson with Anders, who was incredibly patient, engaging and just terrific with him. A special shoutout as well to Elizabeth at the front desk, who spent time talking with our seven year-old and got him set up with smores at the fire pit. Those personal touches made the stay. My one request would be that I wish they offered true suites or connecting rooms for families.”

  • Very overpriced for what it is

“We came away disappointed with Sage Lodge given the price — around $3,000 for two nights, plus fees. The setting is beautiful, the main lodge is stunning, and the restaurant staff and food were excellent. Unfortunately, the accommodation and overall experience didn’t feel consistent with the price point. During our stay, the gym and spa were unavailable, our rafting trip was cancelled the night before due to insufficient demand, and the AC in our room was extremely loud and struggled to cool the room, disrupting our sleep. The room itself felt dated, and being in Room 1 meant other guests regularly cut across our porch, which significantly reduced privacy. Our tea and coffee also weren’t replenished, and information about included activities wasn’t readily available. We’ve stayed at considerably less expensive hotels in Wyoming and Montana with better rooms. There is a lot to like about Sage Lodge, particularly the location, grounds, restaurants and staff, but at this price we expected a much higher standard of accommodation and overall experience. I emailed them this feedback and they didn’t acknowledge it with a reply.”

“Our stay at Sage Lodge in Paradise Valley, Montana was absolutely incredible! The lodge itself is stunning—beautiful, comfortable, and surrounded by some of the most breathtaking views we’ve ever experienced. Our room was clean, comfortable, and had an amazing view that we never got tired of waking up to. We took part in several activities during our stay, including branding, fly fishing, and axe throwing, and each experience was so much fun and made our trip even more memorable. A very special thank you to Brad, who once again—this was our second time having him as our guide—made our private tour of Yellowstone absolutely amazing. Brad is knowledgeable, personable, and truly goes above and beyond to make the experience special. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide! Sage Lodge is truly a special place, and we always look forward to coming back. The combination of the beautiful property, incredible scenery, wonderful activities, and exceptional experiences makes it somewhere we will continue to return to. Five stars all the way!”

“We did not have a great experience at Sage Lodge, largely due to the rooms. First the positives, the staff is fantastic (special shout out to Terrence), super responsive (I asked for a yoga mat and it was in my room in two minutes) and really nice. The food is also excellent and comes out quickly, and the common area is beautiful with lots of games and things like that. They also had really nice Red Flower products in the rooms. It was quite smoky while we were there from the fires so we couldn’t really see the view, but I’m sure it’s gorgeous. The biggest problem for us was that there was a portable AC in our room, 21, that was loud (we didn’t sleep well at all) and took up real space. At first I was sympathetic, like this is a bummer but things happen. However, on the second day we realized the AC did not just break, it was clearly a permanent feature, and nobody said anything about it (like didn’t apologize when we checked in). They gave us a discount when we complained, but you don’t want to have to complain and feel like you’re negotiating with the hotel to see what they will give you, it feels crappy and White Lotus-y. The worst part was they clearly expected it, like were totally ready to give us a discount because they’re used to people complaining, but didn’t say or do anything upfront: We changed rooms on the third night (had booked a category with a bath that wasn’t available the first two). That one didn’t have a portable and was much nicer (for only $200 more), but there were still things I wouldn’t expect from a property charging $1,500+ a night. For example no Bluetooth to play music, only had DirecTV (no apps) and - in something I have literally never noticed at a hotel that costs more than $150 - had industrial type, cheap toilet paper. There was also no one to help you with your bags, like the check in girl said she could do it but at that point my husband had loaded things on the trolley (similarly, no one to park the car). The garbage cans out front were also overflowing when we came back from a trip to Yellowstone. Overall our rating is based on the price point, like if it was half or even two thirds of what we paid and we had the second room we would have rated it very good, still not great for the price. It is charging luxury hotel prices but isn’t a luxury hotel, and folks should just be aware of that going in.”

  • Lovely property but limited activities

    8/10

    foodiefamily7 · NONE · 2026-08-10

“Sage Lodge is a beautiful property that raises the bar on rustic nature accommodations. Coming from national park accommodations, this Lodge was a welcome change of pace that allowed us to relax and luxuriate a bit more. However, if Sage Lodge is your main destination and you are looking for a ranch style accommodation where you can enjoy a large property with ample outdoor activities, you might be disappointed. While they own thousands of acres of land, only a small portion is usable by guests. Activities are limited by how many guides are available, and there is no set weekly schedule. This requires careful planning with the concierge and hoping that the guides are not booked by other guests for similar activities. Unlike other larger properties that have a published weekly schedule of activities, this system seems a bit more inconsistent and can be confusing since certain guides are only available for certain types of activities. The property could also benefit from a quick grab n' go breakfast cafe. For now, the only options are a boxed breakfast to go, or a sit down meal at the restaurant.”

“Our group of friends stayed at Sage Lodge in July for 4–5 days, and it was truly one of the most memorable trips I’ve ever taken. First off, the service was absolutely exceptional. Every staff member we encountered was warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in making our stay unforgettable. No request ever felt too small, and everyone went above and beyond with a smile. The property itself is breathtaking. The lodge is beautifully designed, impeccably maintained, and perfectly nestled in one of the most stunning landscapes Montana has to offer. Waking up to those mountain views each morning never got old. What really made the trip special were all of the amenities and activities. There was so much to do, from outdoor adventures to relaxing around the lodge, and everything was thoughtfully organized and incredibly fun. It struck the perfect balance between adventure and relaxation, making it easy to create unforgettable memories with friends. We left with incredible stories, amazing photos, and already talking about when we can come back. Sage Lodge exceeded every expectation and made for an adventure I’ll never forget. I highly recommend Sage Lodge to anyone looking for an unforgettable Montana getaway. Every single one of my friends felt the same way—we can’t wait to return!”

The location was excellent for beautiful views, peace and tranquility. Gardiner was 30 minutes away. There are plenty of shops and restaurants there. The north entrance to Yellowstone was about 40 minutes away. The room was clean and comfortable with stunning Mountain View’s. There are nice trails on the property. We enjoyed several Meals on site. We highly recommend the Sage Lodge. ”

“We enjoyed 3 nights at this wonderful lodge. First off the location is beautiful. Its Montana! Our first contact person was Graham who helped us s with our bags at check-in. I'm not sure what his official job is because we saw him helping out everywhere in the lodge thru out our stay...and always a smile on his face & a cheerful greeting. Our room was very comfortable and quiet. Next time I would be sure to ask for a view of the pond. We were fortunate to book 2 tours. Our first was a river float on The Yellowstone. Harry was great and if you are a fisherman he's your guy! Our tour of Yellowstone was an all day trip and we were so impressed with Jodi. Her knowledge & respect for the Park is evident and she gave us a wonderful experience. And we still had time to share some funny stories with her. Sage Lodge is a special place. Be sure to eat at the Grill. The trout was my favorite plate.”

“We didn't stay at the hotel, but we booked a Llama Day Hike through them. Yellowstone Llamas was the vendor, Suzie. What an incredible and memorable experience at such a beautiful place. Next time we're in the area we will use this as our home base for exploring rather than where we stayed before. The llamas were wonderful, Suzie is wonderful, and it's such a unique way to take a hike of this incredible landscape. The staff we interacted with were all friendly and professional. I have absolutely nothing negative to say. What a welcoming and beautiful place.”

“In December 2025 we booked and paid for a room here with a planned 2 night stay in June 2026. Just under 2 weeks before our stay the hotel unceremoniously cancelled it, dumping us with nowhere to stay in the middle of a 2week roadtrip. Dreadful way to treat clients. They wanted to use our room for Spa treatments and refused to compromise or help. Unprofessional and very disappointing way to be treated.”

“My partner and I scheduled this trip as we saw Sage Lodge on many dog-friendly US lists. I can confirm this hotel is the perfect place to bring your dog! There's a max occupancy of around 200 people, so the hotel never felt crowded. There's plenty of dog-friendly spaces, each room has a gorgeous view, and the suite spaces were very comfortably sized. There's plenty of included activities and amenities to make the price worth every penny. It was a bit of a bummer to have the spa and fitness center closed for our stay, but we're excited to participate in more next time! Great location to Yellowstone (30 min to park entrance near Gardiner), not too far from nearest town (Livingston - 30 min) and other activities (Chico Hot Springs - 5 min; Livingston hikes for dogs - 30 min) and PLENTY of nearby outdoorsy activities to keep you busy all week”

  • Feels like you're staying at a private ranch

    10/10

    I6836KKandreas · Family · 2026-05-25

“We had a magical experience at the Sage Lodge! We traveled here for 4 nights as our base to explore Yellowstone National Park. The Sage Lodge exceeded all expectations. The people who work here know you and your family by first name within 1 day of arrival. They go out of their way to get to know you, and to provide exceptional service. Natasha at the front desk is the Mother Hen of the group, and one of the original staff members since this quietly luxurious property opened in 2018. Huge shout out to the following staff members and guides who made our experience so memorable: Anders (scenic float guide), Dillon (an actual biologist they have on staff leading the all day private sunrise wildlife tour!), Jayden (e-bike tour and axe throwing), and Wil (archery course). These guys are world class. We have never felt so cared for in any of our travels (and we travel extensively both domestically and internationally). We were treated like family! The food at The Grill is also world class. The wine menu is superb, setting is magical, and the elk in particular was to die for. The bartenders and servers at the Fireside were outstanding! Both food and drinks there were top notch. The breakfast at Fireside is out of this world. All made to order, and generous portion sizes. Our teenagers raved about this place and can be hard to please. For them it was the diversity of activities offered by the Sage Lodge. We did most of the ones offered - archery, axe throwing (complimentary), e-biking tour, scenic float down the Yellowstone River - they are all well worth the cost and really help you explore the entire property (which is massive!) Our only note for the resort is that we missed not having dressers to stow our belongings in the room. Would be really great to not be living out of suitcases for such a long trip. The bedding arrangement was fantastic with two teens. The staff made the trundle bed under the window, and queen sleeper sofa, so our teens had their own spaces. The king bed was extremely comfortable, and view from the room was exceptional. On top of all this aggressive relaxation and diving food, we enjoyed two full days in Yellowstone exploring, and it exceeded all expectations. We did 1 day self guided which was a ton of driving (11 hours), but we saw 3/4 of the park. Day 2 we went with Dillon the biologist guide and all I can say is WOW! He is brilliant, so good with teenagers, and he found all the animals we could have hoped to see! I was a bit hesitant to stay so far north of Yellowstone for our whole trip but do not regret it at all. If luxurious lodging and outstanding food and service is important to you, then this is the place to stay while exploring Yellowstone. We are so grateful to have stayed at this magical place that feels like you're staying at a friend's private ranch. Don't hesitate to book it right away. Thank you Sage Lodge. We hope to be back one day soon!”

“Just completed a week with family here. It is a beautiful property with incredible views! A great place to get away and convenient to Bozeman, Livingston and Yellowstone. I do think the property recently changed ownership so there were some hiccups and probably aren't Michelin Key worthy at present, but staff did respond promptly to any issues or concerns we had. Was also nice to have laundry facilities available at no charge on site for those traveling.”
