“The location of La Posada cannot be beat. A very short walk to the center of Santa Fe - the Plaza and nearby shopping and dining. Beautiful restoration and maintenance of a historic property, maintaining its charm with modern conveniences. We have stayed here many times over the years and is our go to in Santa Fe. Julia's restaurant is excellent with great servers and well prepared food. The spa provides great services. Pool has a good number of comfortable lounge chairs and good shade. Everything is clean and well maintained. The front desk staff is friendly and efficient. Rooms vary in size as is true in many older properties, but are very comfortable with enough electric outlets and USB ports.”

“We had a nice two day stay recently. I'm Marriott Ambassador so I stay in a lot of Marriotts globally. The staff did a really nice job and the food was excellent. Pool could use a bit of a cleaning but we got in and enjoyed anyway. Our room wasn't ready at 4pm which is rare for a Marriott Ambassador, but Miguel got us an upgrade and free drinks at the bar. It's always nice when you do something small to make a situation better, thank you Miguel!”

  • Do not miss La Posada!

“I am a native Santa Fean. I have been going to “La Po” for over 50 years! I took my wife there back when we were dating almost 30 years ago, and we were there again just this past Wednesday (July 29) having cocktails and food on the lovely intimate deck overlooking the outdoor dining patio. Silver Coin Margaritas were top notch as were the Poke nachos, Beet salad, and Burgers. All served with a beautiful smile from our wonderful waitress Brenda J! Cannot say enough about our entire experience, something we have come to expect and have never been disappointed. An old tradition for us locals, and a “do not miss” experience for visitors!”

  • Terrible Stay at La Posada de Santa Fe

    2/10

    KeithDPatch · Couples · 2026-07-22

“Our stay at La Posada de Santa Fe was a major disappointment, especially given the premium rates the boutique hotel charges. It definitely does not deserve to be called a Marriott Tribute Portfolio Hotel. The problems began before we even arrived. When I made the reservation by phone, I was explicitly told that breakfast was included. At check-in, we were informed that it was not. At these prices, breakfast should be included, but what's even less acceptable is providing inaccurate information when taking a reservation. Our first room was completely unacceptable. The HVAC equipment on the roof, directly above our room, appeared to be large enough for a Walmart. The noise in the room sounded like a B-52 bomber. There was no chance of getting a decent night's sleep, so we requested another room. The replacement room wasn't much of an improvement. The patio had a large puddle that remained throughout our stay, making the outdoor space unusable. Inside, the carpet was dirty and scarred with multiple burn marks in front of the wood-burning stove, as there wasn't even a proper hearth mat (3). The glazing on the refinished bathtub surface was cracked and peeling (1, 2), and the bathroom sink was also cracked (5). One of the casement windows hardly worked, as an incorrect crank handle was used (4). An inexcusable problem in New Mexico is that when we turned the air conditioner on that night, it blew hot air! The front desk promptly sent a technician who turned off the heat, but only got it to supply non-conditioned outside air, rather than cool, air-conditioned air. This property is badly overdue for maintenance and falls well short of the standards its pricing and advertising suggests. Based on our experience, it's difficult to understand how this hotel is marketed as a five-star property. To make matters worse, we learned only at checkout that the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle into town. Had anyone mentioned it at check-in, we would have used it. Instead, no one said a word. The one bright spot was the staff. Everyone we dealt with was courteous and professional. Unfortunately, good employees cannot overcome neglected facilities, inaccurate reservation information, and accommodations that fail to justify premium pricing. We will not stay at La Posada de Santa Fe again and cannot recommend it to anyone paying these rates.”

  • Misleading, Poorly Maintained, and Overpriced

“One Star Our stay at La Posada de Santa Fe was a tremendous, outrageous disappointment, especially considering the premium room rates. The problems started before we even arrived. When I made the reservation by phone, I was specifically told that breakfast was included. At check-in, we were informed that it was not. At these prices, it's astonishing that breakfast isn't included in the first place, and even more frustrating to receive incorrect information when booking. The first room we were assigned was completely unacceptable. The hotel's entire HVAC system appeared to be directly above the room. By midday, the noise overhead sounded like B-52 bombers. There is simply no way we could have slept there, so we requested another room. The replacement room wasn't much better. The outdoor patio had an enormous puddle that never dried during our stay, making the space completely unusable. Inside, the carpet was dirty and covered with multiple burn marks in front of the wood-burning stove, where there wasn't even a proper fireplace hearth mat to protect it. The bathtub was cracked and peeling in several places, and the bathroom sink was also cracked. This property is badly in need of maintenance and simply does not live up to the standards—or the prices—it charges. Calling it a five-star property is difficult to understand based on our experience. It barely felt worthy of one star. The only positive aspect of our stay was the staff, who were pleasant and courteous throughout. Unfortunately, friendly employees cannot make up for poor maintenance, misleading reservation information, and rooms that fall so far below expectations. We would never stay here again and cannot recommend La Posada de Santa Fe to anyone, especially at these rates.”

“This is positioned perfectly within walking distance of markets, museums, hiking trails, and restaurants. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and welcoming. Tonight, at Julia, the onsite restaurant, all of the staff were great, including the chef serving us a delicious amuse bouche, and our server, Brenda Jimenez, immediately being able to accommodate our request to make a non-alcoholic Margarita, giving us two great mocktails, and providing excellent service. At breakfast, the general manager has greeted us and given us excellent advice about things to do and see on site, like the yoga classes, and around Santa Fe. He even recommended ways to drive to and from Taos, when he found out we were making a day trip there. The hostess and wait assistants were excellent as well. The valets even helped us back out during a time when a lot of cars arrived around the same time. They have always been helpful and friendly. When we arrived, in the middle of the night, the front desk took care of us in a welcoming and efficient manner. Amazingly enough, when the light to our suite entrance was out, they immediately sent someone over and fixed it! All of these things have made all the difference for us, in making our vacation to Santa Fe (and Taos) memorable in the best ways.”

Tons of great art throughout the lobby area. Convenient valet parking. Walking distance to old town. We loved it fit it girls trip in April 2026.”

  • Did not honor advance reservation and room was terrible.

“I stayed at La Posada for three days to celebrate my granddaughter’s wedding. I was the officiant. My son and DIL had arranged eight months in advance for a block of rooms to accommodate the bride and groom, the wedding party and family members. When I arrived with my other son I was assigned a room on the opposite side of the property from where the wedding would take place. I told them that that room would not do but they said that were filled and that that was all they had. I was very unhappy as it was a long walk over bumpy and uneven terrain. I am 86 years old. After much complaining, my room was changed to a more convenient one, but I had already unpacked and all that had to be undone. The new room was in a much better location but the room itself was terrible, with a step up to the bathroom (dangerous in the middle of the night) and no comfortable place to sit—two ridiculous and uncomfortable chairs, one of which tipped over when I accidentally knocked into it. The TV was perpendicular to the bed and thus could not be watched from the bed. But the main thing is that they lied to me that there were no other rooms available and our advance reservations were ignored. My husband and I stayed at La Posada years ago and loved it, but it is far from the 5 star property it once was. I understand it is under new management and will undergo renovation soon. It is greatly needed. In the meantime, I do not recommend it.”

  • Best Choice for Santa Fe!!!

“Despite some not so great reviews we found this hotel to be absolutely the best choice!! Staff was great, from valets , maid service, front desk (SO helpful with everything we asked for!) , bartenders, rooms...we had no problems. did not dine at the restaurant though but the bar had great guacamole and chips!! Was a very short walk into the main square of town, just took a few minutes ! all so easy to get around walking as it was so central. They have a car to take guests into town and around and I believe within a one or two mile radius of hotel which was nice to utilize to take us and pick us up at the Farmers Market so we didn't have to drive. The room was quiet and clean. It was nice to have packaged ready made sandwiches and goodies available for purchase in the lobby, nice selection of wines, drinks ready to go...used this for our road trip to Taos a quick 1 1/2 drive away. Enjoyed the jacuzzi in the evenings...it was just a really nice place to call home for 6 days!! Thanks to all for a great week!!!”

“Friendly staff! Nice room and comfortable bed. The restaurant fell down badly though. Our order took about 50 minutes to arrive. I ordered the "Coffee Bourbon NY Strip Steak" special. The steak was inedible. It tased like eating coffee grounds. The veggies were dry and had obviously spent spent a lot of time under a heat lamp. The next morning my sunny-side up eggs were served mostly raw and with runny egg whites white. The cooks are kinda faking it here. Eat some place else.”

“I was in Santa Fe for work and had an excellent stay at La Posada. Hotel staff were absolutely lovely - super professional and welcoming. The property is quite traditional with beautiful, peaceful surroundings. Because this is a historic hotel, all the the rooms are a little different - I tended to think of this as a cool feature, rather than a negative - I end up staying in a lot of hotels for work, so the ones that stand out to me are the ones that are a bit unique. The pool area is really nice, and the pool is heated, so that was a nice thing to do in the evenings. I would also recommend the bar/restaurant patio. It's a great place to hang out in the evenings, next to one of the many firepits with a drink and a good book. The hotel property is fairly quiet and calm at night for sleeping as well.”

  • A Mixed Experience but a Hotel with Potential

    6/10

    K7412CUbenw · Family · 2026-05-20

“We are very loyal to the Marriott brand and have stayed in a lot of properties all over the world. This hotel is an interesting one. I understand both the positive and negative reviews. Our stay wasn't perfect. This historic hotel has so much potential. It has an interesting history and beautiful artwork. It's also a very Southwestern property in an ideal location. We loved being able to walk into town. The breakfast for Titanium members was great and the staff was always super nice and helpful. But the rooms are not optimal. They are certainly dated, not particularly clean, and there are easy things that could be added to enhance the experience. For example, there is not enough storage in the bathroom with just a pedestal sink, but plenty of room for a bathroom vanity. Given there is only one sink in the bathroom, a make up mirror would also have been useful. It would also be so easy to add a charger near the beds. It doesn't seem like they have spent time thinking about what guests might want. We were on the second floor up a steep staircase and weren't told in advance at check in or offered any help with our bags. We were able to manage and could have certainly asked for assistance, but our room wouldn't have worked for everyone. Also, the valet when we arrived took about 15-20 minutes and was the only option. One day we were gone for almost seven hours and were disappointed that the room was being serviced at 5 PM right when we needed it. This could easily be a great property, but it's not right now! However, we don't regret staying here and would probably do so again for the convenience and the history.”

“This hotel is very expensive. It’s very unique to Santa Fe. It took 2 trips to the front desk to housekeeping to clean our room. We had to delay our evening plans even though we gave them 5 hours to clean our room. Amenities were few and far between for such an expensive Santa Fe hotel. Suite bathroom was very small and very out dated. Very disappointed.”

“Arrival was good. Bellmen and valet in abundance. They were prompt and courteous. Check in, subpar. Our key didn’t work so had to truck back to front desk (100 yards X 2). Not a crisis but some minimal effort is to make sure keys work. Lunch was exceptional. We sat at the bar and the bartender was excellent. Also prompt and courteous. Food was a winner! I got pozole which was served hot and was delicious! Caroline had the beef street tacos. Also a winner. The room was a total loss. Obviously a heavy smoker spent many days wrecking the experience. Linens did not appear changed. They were wrinkled, some abstract hair and marks. Carpet dirty, caution tape to prevent tripping makes the room look like a crime scene. breakfast was also exceptional. Hot coffee and well prepared. Staff also prompt and courteous. Overall I would say a two but wanted to give the staff and kitchen respect. If we would rate just service and food, a solid 5! The room carries most weight with us on our experience. New owners? Go check out room 245 and let us know if you would sleep there more than one night? Break”

“Typical Autograph Collection Marriot. Nice accomodations, friendly and responsive service. Just over priced versus other opportunities in Santa Fe. The one negative..the ability to dispense more than one drop at a time of the shampoo and body wash in the shower was impossible. Be prepared to pump like crazy to get a suitable amount for washing. Better yet, bring your own shampoo and soap”

  • Don’t be fooled by the promo photos….

“Marriott Bonvoy member here, elite status, over 500+ nights in different Marriott properties. This property has zero business being classified as a 4 star hotel, or in the “premium” category of Marriott properties. Don’t get me wrong, the hotel is a historic property and that is what appealed to us, but this hotel has had an amazing promo photographer because once you’re inside your room the vibe goes from charming historic to the way past its prime, run down dingy dank aesthetic. The rooms are apparently all different too so I’m speaking specifically about room 134. It’s filthy, dated, and made me so uncomfortable. The furniture is worn and dirty, hairs and chunks of debris inside the drawers of the furniture. The bathroom was so icky with dirt and grime in the corners, stains on the wall, dark splatter matter on the wall, hairs in the sink and toilet seat, and a slippery bath tub that almost took us out. Very dark with minimal lighting. The mattress in the room was abysmal and we both had aching backs the whole way home. There were weird stains on the bedskirt. There was a working kiva fireplace in the room which, sure, is really cool, but had we known that ahead of time, would have chosen something else because while in room fireplaces are great, ones that burn actual firewood and cause the entire room to reek of smoke was not the the experience we hoped for. There were bugs crawling around the room, presumably from the fire wood. We thought the smell would air out if we didn’t use the fireplace, but we went home absolutely reeking of smoke, all of our luggage, clothes and everything. Last but not least, the air conditioner quit working every night in the middle of the night and didn’t come back on until the morning. The entire panel just went completely dead. We both woke up sweating each night because the air quit. Full disclosure: we complained about this and the hotel did offer to give us points for the inconvenience. We ended up leaving a night early because the place was just so very uncomfortable and disappointing. Here’s the thing, if you’re looking for a charming historic well kept and well designed property, this is not it. This is not a 4 star property. If you’re looking for a more cabin type experience, this may be it. This room was truly no better than an old cabin. And that may be exactly the vibe you’re looking for but, why spend $500-$700 a night for that? Go visit the property if you want to experience the historic aspect of it, but if you’re looking for upscale and charming historic, I recommend looking elsewhere to stay the night.”
