“We just returned from an incredible stay at The Otesaga over July 4th weekend.
Every moment of our stay was incredible.
The front desk staff was warm and attentive. We didn't have to wait on a long check in line and were greeted with fresh water.
The amenities are incredible. The lakefront staffed helped us get in and out of kayaks and paddleboards with ease. It was so luxurious to be able to just wake up, throw something quick on, and get right into a kayak without any fuss. Even on a busy weekend, everything was so smoothly operated. Nothing beats that view of the lake- crystal clear, glimmering water. So clean and refreshing.
My family spent hours in the heated pool overlooking the lake. The view was incredible and there is attentive waitstaff who bring out food and drinks. There are also staff who lay out towels for you. The 4th of July Ice Cream Sundae Bar was such a nice touch. There was also face painting and balloon making from BJ the clown which made the weekend even more special. My kids were on Cloud 9!
Our room was spectacular and overlooking the lake. Everything was spotless and well maintained. My kids loved sitting on the windowsill overlooking the view. I am very picky about rooms and bathrooms and had absolutely not complaints. The ONLY con is that there was no refrigerator in our room which can be challenging with small children.
We had multiple delicious meals including the breakfast buffet and lunch at Hawkeye. All of our meals were delicious. We especially loved our pancakes, omelets, French fries, grilled cheese, mac and cheese, and the edamame dumplings!
I just want to reiterate how kind and helpful the staff was. It really made our experience easy and enjoyable.
My kids did not want to leave this hotel. We can't wait to visit again!”

“Wish someone had posted this before booking our reservation.
I am torn on how to rate The Otesaga. Five stars for the pros, but one for the cons. I’ll average to three.
PROS
It is a beautiful property. Spectacular setting, tasteful and elegant decor, excellent plus service from every single employee. Attention to detail. Extremely clean.
CONS
If you go in the summer and you are looking, like we were, for a bucolic, restful getaway, be aware that it is impossible at The Otesaga.
Cooperstown is THE mecca for nationwide baseball tournaments for 12-year-olds, all summer, every summer. The hotel is overrun with children, and they improvise baseball games on the lawn by the lake that the adults sometimes join.
And they scream.
And they screech.
Non-stop. Everyday, as people understandably do in a sports game. It was fun to watch for fifteen minutes, but then the unrelenting screaming ALL AFTERNOON LONG gets to you. Forget sitting in the dreamy veranda. “Oh, but at 5:00 they move them to the front lawn,” according to the front desk.
I can’t imagine those guests with lakeside rooms with that ruckus outside their window all day. We are lucky we couldn’t get one.
Bottom line- You are in a deluxe, fancy, expensive baseball camp for kids all summer long. Could possibly consider a return in the fall season.”

“What a beautiful hotel and the view of the lake is amazing. We were there before all the summer things-to-do were available but still one of our favorite trips.”
We truly hated to leave!

“Our stay at the Otesaga was wonderful from start to finish! From the amazing staff, to the delicious food, we really enjoyed the stay. It was my husband's 40th birthday and every single staff member we encountered, wished him a happy birthday. Really top notch service! The room was clean and spacious with a beautiful view of the frozen lake. We are so happy we booked here!”
Still wonderful!

“A great hotel that seems to get better with age. I've stayed here several times during the past 15 years or so… Never disappoints.”
Fantastic two day stay at The Otesaga and I didn’t see a ghost

“The week of Thanksgiving The Otesaga Hotel had some of their rooms at a very rare discount as the hotel was empty this time of year as was the whole town in the week of Thanksgiving. I took advantage of it and booked two nights. It was the best stay I had in a hotel in a long time.
First, I got a nice size room on the third floor. While the floor is supposed to be haunted, I saw nothing but friendly guests and the housekeeper. The room was really clean, nicely furnished and very comfortable. It had a view of the mountains and the parking lot but when it gets dark at 4:00pm, who cares.
The restaurants here are really good. I ate at the Hawkeye Grill the first night as nothing was open in town. The bartender could not have been nicer and mixed a mean drink. The cheeseburger was fantastic.
I ate in the Glitterglass Room at their Breakfast buffet and it was excellent. There were so many choices and so beautifully displayed. The omelets and waffles were delicious. I was the first one down for breakfast and got the best two top right next to the window. The buffet is also reasonably priced and if you are a big eater, it is well worth it.
The staff here is also really nice and it was great getting to know them over my stay. Sara at the front desk gave me an interesting historical tour of the hotel, which I recommend and the Concierge, Dawn, could have not been nicer or more informative. She saved me money by buying me tickets for the Baseball Hall of Fame at the hotel. You save $5.00 .
It was too bad it was so gloomy my second day or I could have enjoyed the grounds more. There is so much to do around the hotel from the museums and parks and downtown being two blocks away, it kept me busy all the time.
I got to see a lot in two days and it was a wonderful break from work. I will be back in the future.”

“Great property - we had one of the best rooms in the hotel (Lake View Suite) which made it extra special. It is amazing that the owners/managers can keep this historic property clean and functional. We will be back.”

“First time visiting Cooperstown. Very nice village and great lakeside accommodations. Room was a bit small for the price and loud.”
