“The staff and luxurious hotel”
Like sleep? Don’t stay at Gurneys

“We are currently staying here in a two bedroom suite/cottage with our three kids. We splurged to have a nice family end of Summer trip. It has not been what we hoped for to say the least. The woman at reception made no effort to help us with an early check-in despite us requesting the early check-in as well as sharing our child was unwell and the rooms having availability. After the 4pm check-in… we were told we needed to have a reservation for the beach chairs… fine. We checked our children into the kids club to learn quickly that the staff made no effort with them and in fact sat separately from the children having their own conversations I had to personally ask them to help the children. Our children were able to walk out of the club unattended on multiple occasions which was very alarming. Needless to say - not properly supervised at all. To make matters worse - we have spent the last two nights with music and bass blasting full force above our room allowing not one member of our family to sleep. Literal torture. We usually stay at Marram, we figured we would try gurneys, we are so disappointment and can’t believe we’ve spent thousands of dollars to be at what was considered a top hotel in the Hamptons and not slept a single night that we have been here .
Party people only recommended. Not families.”
I'm convinced this place is a SCAM!

“I'm convinced this place is a scam!
We booked Gurney’s for my 40th birthday expecting a 5-star luxury getaway, but the reality was an understaffed, rundown operation that fell short on almost every basic detail.
The service issues started right at check-in. My wife had prearranged champagne, chocolates, and rose petals with guest relations, but only balloons and prosecco were in the room. The crib we confirmed in advance wasn’t there, and the toilet ran constantly until a senior engineer finally came by to replace the flapper after the first technician failed to fix it.
Reaching anyone for help was nearly impossible. Whether calling the front desk, housekeeping, or concierge for ice, extra soap, or even a band-aid after I slipped on oily feet post-massage, the phones rang endlessly day and night. We literally overheard a staff member say "I need help" as she picked up; it seems the entire 158-room resort is being run by a couple of completely overwhelmed people.
Our room in the separate residence building felt neglected and hasn't been updated in years. The hallways smelled musty, the carpets were stained, the doors and floors creaked, and our bath towels had visible holes. On top of that, the grounds are awful for strollers and it’s a 10-minute trek to the main resort. When no one picked up to send a shuttle for our dinner at Gigi’s, the front desk claimed they couldn't push our reservation back. My wife had to walk over in person just to ask, and the restaurant staff accommodated us immediately without hesitation.
To make matters worse, staff banged on our door despite a "Do Not Disturb" sign to clear the mini-fridge on our last morning, waking our toddler from a nap.
There were a few genuine bright spots: the spa and bathhouse were fantastic (Abhishek and Betty took great care of us), the balcony views and kitchenette were great, and dinner at Gigi’s easily beat Scarpetta.
While supervisors like Cianny and Sherry were polite and apologetic, apologies don't make up for paying luxury rates for a motel-level experience. We're still waiting on a callback from management to make things right, but as it stands, we won't be returning and cannot recommend them.”

“The entire staff was welcoming and made us feel at home throughout our entire stay. We enjoyed the beach, the indoor pool and the saltwater spa. The cuisine at Gigi's was delicious and the service was remarkable. Service at the beach club was also prompt and friendly.”

“AWFUL! If you are looking for quality, relaxation , & great customer service this is NOT the place. We were unfortunately very disappointed with our stay. We had room 568 , a 2 bedroom , ocean view room. The room was dated , stale & had bugs everywhere. The sofa bed had a broken spring & couldn’t be fixed so our daughter ended up sleeping with us. The carpet looked like it had not been shampooed in years. You can tell they have “renovated/updated” the rooms but it’s already falling apart. This room was not a $1800/night room. On the 2nd day we noticed the AC was acting up. We asked for it to be looked @ , no one came by. The 3rd night it completely stopped working around 11pm. We called the front desk & they said “they will send someone.” No one ever came & worst part is that when we called back (multiple times) NO ONE answered! It was raining & we didn’t want to walk to the lobby so we gave up. You can also hear EVERY foot step from the room above & muffled conversations.
This property is not for families, period! They are catering to young party goers day & night. The “yoga” classes had booths set up & multiple vendors promoting products. The lobby & cafe were completely congested each morning because of this. In the evenings the fire pit & outside area off of the main restaurant was again packed with young adults ready to party. The fact that they are promoting a “pre drink “ shot @ their cafe & in the room says a lot. The amenities make no sense. Salt & stone in the shower, a tiny tube of body balm for lotion (another brand) & single packets of listerine (which were never replaced.)
Overall , this place is more like a glorified holiday inn @ best. If you think you are going to get great service, relaxing stay for the amount of $$$ you spend you will be disappointed! We had just left the Park Hyatt in the city, this was the complete opposite experience.”
Not a family hotel 3star at most

“This is not a family hotel, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday it’s a nightclub for all the young ones in the area and it becomes a horrible, loud music filled place definitely not suitable for children and families.
We arrived back to the hotel after a meal out for a nightcap and were not made feel welcome in the restaurant by a server called Roberta. It was the only place we could go as the hotel was packed with young people.
We made a complaint to a manager called Fernando who became very aggressive and very rude, he was not interested in anything we had to say and accused me of being rude to his staff, which I most certainly was not.It was terrible and definitely not what you would expect from a hotel costing $1600 a night.
I made a complaint to the general manager the next morning and he was very understanding.
All in all this is not the hotel which is advertised for families, my advice is to stay away.
The restaurant is run by Mimmo and the food and service there was good. The beach is beautiful and not crowed but the hotel and bedrooms are far from luxury, I would class it as 3 star.
There are events on every day which fills the hotel and car park where it is hard to find a parking bay.
We will never be back.”

We had a clean, lovely room with an amazing deck looking out at the ocean! Excellent food & service!!! We highly recommend-the staff and resort exceeded our expectations!!!”
Party Central with Zero Care. Families Beware

“Beyond disappointed is an understatement. We had high expectations for Gurney’s, but we walked away feeling completely catfished. If you have children, look elsewhere. This place lacks quality in every single department and makes Marram up the road look like a luxury resort.
Our stay started on a bad note thanks to Cianny at the front desk. As we stood there waiting to be acknowledged, she didn't look up once until I literally had to ask, "Can you help us?" Zero smile, zero warmth. Our rooms weren't ready, which is fine, but we were guaranteed a text by 4:00 PM. Keeping a fussy, cranky toddler waiting in a lobby for an hour is no fun. When 4:00 PM rolled around with no update, I went back to the desk. Cianny ignored me again. Thankfully, a kinder staff member named Brooke noticed me, stepped in, and revealed our rooms had been ready for a while. When Brooke pointed out to Cianny that I never got the text, Cianny didn't offer a single word of apology.
our room was in unacceptable condition and absolutely not worth the price upon seeing them in person. our shower did not drain properly, and would build up water up to your ankles over the course of your shower. the AC was the worst part of the room, beyond loud and completely in need of replacement. when the AC was running it sounded like a lawnmower was running over gravel. we ended up running it full blast during the day and shutting it down at night because it was keeping my toddler awake.
the building grounds are winding, up and down, with lots and lots of stairs. the indoor pool is lovely and well appointed but the outdoor pool is not, an afterthought placed far beyond the parking lot and too far away to get there without asking for directions a few times. the beach chairs are cheap and uncomfortable.
the tacky Dolce and Gabana overlay at the hotel and beach area looks out of place against the natural beauty and setting of Montauk. i guess it's for event or pop up shop? but the jarring fake orange trees and large oversized D&G sign adorning the walkway is gaudy.
This is a rowdy party scene full of day-passers, drunk crowds by the fire pits in the evenings, and wannabe influencers. There was trash left in the sand during the day, and the beach DJ blasted music at noon so loudly it was piercing. We were in the front row of chairs and I literally had to cover my child's ears and exit the beach out of fear of permanent hearing damage. I don't expect resorts to cater exclusively to kids, but when you advertise a serene luxury experience for all guests, a nonstop party scene is not what you expect.
Our final night at Gigi’s was another massive letdown. We were a large party, and the hostess promised to push two tables together and grab a high chair. She then promptly forgot we existed, checking in multiple other parties while we stood right in front of the host stand. My husband finally had to re-prompt her. We were seated 30 minutes late, only to find the tables weren't set up and there was no high chair in sight. Our waiter was great (the one bright spot!), but all of our steaks arrived at the table cold and well-done instead of the rare/medium-rare we ordered.
Don't count on the advertised house car in the mornings. I tried to use it multiple times to grab a proper matcha in town, but nobody was ever around, or I was met with bizarre excuses like "we can't get into the lockbox."
TL;DR: Save your money and your sanity. Gurney’s is an overpriced, loud, careless party hub. Choose Marram instead; it’s more walkable, peaceful, and not a complete scene.”
Get a refund! Awful price quality, this is not a luxury hotel but it charges like it is!

“Great food, good service, awful price quality and rooms and not at all worth it. This hotel charges like it's a luxury hotel, but it is not at all! I just read an earlier review and they said - It's a pig in lip stick! and thats exactly the nail on the head.
We were so excited for our trip to Gurneys.
Was our first wedding anniversary and meant to be a very special trip. The location is great and as you arrive you think, cool. But then, as you the see rooms your like, what?! We were paying $6000 for 4 nights. if we were paying $1000 for 4 nights you would think ok, but the disparity of what they are charging vs what they give you is just so out of balance. Even their own staff know it. They also charge you $200 a night within that as a resort fee, even though every second you sign still asked for an additional tip.
The rooms are just not great, they have noisy air con units like a truck running in the room, they are dark and badly maintained. The beach loungers are cheap and practically like laying on the sand.
I will say the staff are lovley and the restaurant food was great. but that sadly doesn't make up for the rest.
We stayed one night out of the 4 and complained to the manager and said we didn't think it was up to the standard, this was before we looked at any other reviews which all said the same thing.
The hotel agreed and gave us a full refund for the other 3 nights. I think they must know they are pulling the wool over. So thats my advice. Don't stay here, but if you do and you they look at reviews as we did. Go get a refund. No amount of Dolce pop up shop all of a sudden makes it luxury if the rest is one level up from a motel.”

“After dinner, we returned to our room and discovered that one of our bags was missing. The bag contained several irreplaceable golf memorabilia items, including a U.S. Open flag signed by multiple professional players and a signed golf glove.
I simply cannot believe something like this could happen at a hotel like this. While I appreciate the security guy locating and returning the bag, the entire experience left us feeling extremely unsafe.
This incident completely ruined our stay and caused considerable stress and frustration.
I would not feel comfortable staying here again.”
1/5 – Extremely disappointing experience, nowhere near the standard expected for the price

“We recently stayed at Gurney’s Montauk for one night to celebrate our one-year anniversary and spent approximately $2,000. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations from start to finish.
The problems began on arrival. We were told to leave our luggage in the car in case our room wasn’t ready. Check-in then took far longer than it should have because the front desk agent appeared unfamiliar with the system.
Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived, which was understandable, but we were told we would receive a text when it became available. No text or email ever came.
Prior to arrival, we had informed the hotel that we were celebrating our anniversary. Given the price point and reputation of the property, we expected at least some small acknowledgment. There was nothing in the room—not even a note, fruit plate, or welcome drink.
We paid to upgrade to a Full Ocean View King room and were surprised by how dated it felt. When we arrived, the door was standing open because it was partially broken and incredibly stiff to open and close. The carpet looked worn, the bathroom was extremely small, and the internet service was unreliable. Overall, the room felt more like a 3-star hotel than a luxury resort.
Later, we attempted to order room service and wanted to speak with someone regarding dietary requirements. There wasn’t a room service number listed on the phone. We called the front desk to connect us, but nobody from room service answered. We called again and asked for someone to call us back. Nobody ever did.
Eventually, we had to walk to the front desk in person to explain the issues. To their credit, they provided a $100 dining credit, but by that point the service failures were already piling up.
Unfortunately, the problems continued. During the night I became ill and was in significant pain after dinner, which only added to an already disappointing stay.
The next morning, nobody answered when we called for luggage assistance during checkout.
Checkout itself perfectly summed up the experience. When asked how our stay was, I explained that we had encountered a long list of issues. The response was essentially, “Let me check you out.” I was asked whether I wanted to use the card on file, but when I requested a different card, I was told the card on file had already been charged. There was no meaningful attempt to address any of the concerns I had just raised and no follow-up from management.
The final surprise came after checkout. We decided to have a drink on the beach before leaving and, before we could even order a snack, we were asked to provide a credit card on file.
For a property positioning itself as a luxury destination, the service was remarkably poor. Between the lack of responsiveness, operational issues, dated room, missed anniversary acknowledgment, and complete absence of proactive customer care, this was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I’ve had at this price point.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but at roughly $2,000 for a single night, guests should expect far better.”

“Best experience! This was our first time and we didn’t know what to expect. We were so happy with this serene place that helped us relax, recharge and enjoy the beauty of Montauk to the fullest. Ocean front room overlooked the beach and had a great lounge for both of us to relax in.
Don’t miss the bathhouse for saunas, cold plunges and much more.
Loved Gigis, the food was amazing.
Dunne was great for coffee and foccacia sandwich.
Loved the exercise classes at the gym make sure to register early they have a full week schedule of usually two classes a day.
The beach club had best service and the ocean was mesmerizing. Have that watermelon salad.
Take the complimentary bike into town it’s only 3 miles away or use their Cadillac car to ride in style on the house.
And of course don’t miss the outdoor experience and the boutique at Dolce Gabbana above the fire pit area.
We will be back.
And special thanks to everyone at front desk for their kindness and guidance.”

“While waiting for my car at the front a Valet driver crashed into my rental car with the Gurney's House Car. Another valet was driving my car. The hotel Refuses to claim responsibility and my personal insurance had to finally cover the costs. This is indicative of serious management issues at this place.”
