Weekend Get Away

“We stayed at the tommie and the room was ok. The modern bathroom was not our favorite but the 4th floor restaurant and pool were awesome. The fitness area was also very nice.
What set our visit apart was one of the gentlemen outside named Marquis. My husband and I needed directions and advice multiple times on where to go, what to do, how to get there. HE WAS DELIGHTFUL and MOST HELPFUL.
I give Marquis 10/10 stars and for no other reason than his help, I would stay here again.”

“Stayed at a few hotels while in Austin for an extended weekend. Did one night at the Thompson to use some points and lived it.
Room was really nice, pool area was cool, service was great.
A bit of a lesser known gem in town to get a cool boutique experience for great value.”
Wonderful Staff & Hotel

“I really like this hotel. I was here two years ago and happily came back to Austin this summer. I wrote a good review then, and I'm happy to say the hotel remains excellent. For a luxury stay in Austin, this is the hotel to stay at.
1) I got a Brazos Suite. This is one of the nicer suites I've been in in the US - decoration is modern yet comfortable and seemed to fit into Texas style. Size is huge and the shower is enormous with two shower heads on either side of the stall.
This suite is worth booking over San Jacinto . SJ is ok but Brazos really is excellent if you can afford it.
2) gym is enormous. A whole floor I think with good free weights and machinese. I had a good workout this morning.
3) breakfast is excellent for globalists. One of the better US breakfasts for globalists. There is a dollar amount but they said I could go over it a bit if I was reasonable. I had an egg white omelette and a side of berries. They offer juice but I didn't take.
4) The assistant operations manager remembered me from two years ago and knew my name and all my stay preferences. It's rare in the US I find for staff to remember me or acknowledge me so that was great.
I didn't get the chance to go to the pool this time but last visit I enjoyed it.
Overall, very happy globalist with this stay. Two thumbs up and can highly recommend”

“WONDERFUL Staff! Great experience in Austin! Stay at a place like this where the staff and management care about your wellbeing. Thank you, Thompson for making our weekend out a great one!”
Not worth the expense, so many cleaner and higher quality hotels at the same price point in Austin (Carpenter, Proper)

“This is actually two hotels connected as one, plus private residences. With one teeny, tiny pool. You won’t find a place to sit at the pool, but the chairs are so filthy you won’t want to sit on them anyway. The room we stayed in smelled like animal urine, had a filthy rug, and a sock from a previous customer on the floor. I’ve stayed at the Thompson in San Antonio and enjoyed it very much. Will never stay at the Thompson in Austin again.”

“Great hotel nestled in downtown Austin; a little bit of noise from the street but that was expected as we're very very close to 6th street and stayed on a weeknight; The ladies at the front desk were very helpful and kind. Nice workout room (the simulator was a nice touch for sure) ; we were there for an event and event staff were also kind.”

“Your valet, Nicholas, went above and beyond in 103 degree heat. I was impressed by his cheerful attitude and hustle.”
If the pool is your main concern, don't stay here!! Otherwise nice.

“Nice hotel, very central location although pretty close to the infamous Dirty 6th Street. Pool is pretty tiny, more of a dipping pool than a swimming pool and it's crowded with not enough chairs. Staff does not monitor how long people leave their things which is annoying. The worst part was people ordering food to the pool but then eating while swimming in the pool. It was so disgusting it really ruined my time at the pool. Literally fries in the pool, greasy hands, crumbs, etc. Just eat outside and then go swimming....I don't get that. Pool staff is all very young and they were completely fine/average. Bar staff is very nice, pretty good food overall.”

Not a great spot for Couples

“We stayed here for an anniversary staycation. This hotel would be a good spot for a bachelor party or guys weekend but is not a great spot for a romantic weekend.
Of note, the valet is pricey. At almost $70 it would’ve been cheaper to uber here than bring our truck, but we did not know the cost of parking before our arrival. This was poor planning on our part.
The rooms are very masculine. From dark woods and jewel tones to the woodsy room scent and heavily cologne-scented bath products (think Old Spice or Brut that lingers), it is a VERY masculine room. The room comes with only one bath robe, which again doesn’t bode well for a romantic weekend. There is also no cream or milk available for the nespresso in the room, so if you like black espresso this may work for you. The all-black toilet is also a very masculine decorating choice, and a bit of an obstacle if you’re trying to monitor your hydration at all.
The AC in our room was struggling a bit. When we entered it was set to 72 but felt closer to 80, so we assumed it had just been off until we entered the room. After returning from lunch and watching the FIFA match, we decided we needed to turn it way down to give it a chance to cool down by bedtime. We closed our curtains and cranked the AC down to 68. When we returned from dinner & drinks the room was cooler but still nowhere near 72 (what we keep our home at) so we turned the AC down to 65. We both ended up sleeping on top of the bedding and woke up in the early morning hours to find the room had finally started to cool down.
We did not eat at the restaurant but did enjoy drinks by the pool before going out for dinner. The pool has a great view but is very crowded on the weekends (it gives cruise ship on a sea day). Don’t look in the drains surrounding the pool; they are full of trash, plastic drink cups, etc.
The location of this hotel is great; this property is within walking distance to some great dinner and drink spots. The view from our corner room was also great for people-watching and the street noise was not an issue in our 14th floor room.
I would not recommend this spot for a romantic weekend but this could pass for a slumber party spot (if you bring your own toiletries, bath robes/slippers, and coffee creamer) and would be a solid place for a guy’s weekend.
We booked through Amex as we have had great luck with their Fine Hotels and Resorts. This hotel was not as well-appointed as the other FHR spots we have stayed at and was the first FHR collection hotel we’ve stayed at that felt like a “miss.” Instead of using the late check-out benefit we decided to go ahead and head home early, to coffee with creamer, solid AC, and our own toiletries.”
Beautiful Hotel in Austin

“The hotel was excellent, and the staff was fantastic and attentive. My only complaint was the pool, which was more like a scene from Love Island than a place you could actually spend time with your kids. Probably nothing they can do about that, but we weren't comfortable using the pool during "happy hour."”
Pool, 5th St Diner

“Very nice place. Parking was a little tough...had to valet but couldn't get into the valet line without blocking traffic as its on the main street. Also expensive at $60+ per day! Plan ahead.
Pool was GREAT! Relaxed, had drinks, comfy lounges etc. Only there for one night but really enjoyed it.
The attached 5th St Diner (can put it on your room charge) was great. Had the brisket hash and it was REALLY good breakfast. And reasonable. Saw a lot of people coming off the street to eat there so you know it was good. Such a welcom change from the typical overpriced hotel offerings when you stay at a nice place.
Room was great. We do a LOT of traveling and this hotel met all our expectations.”
Save Your Money - Book the Tommie instead

“Rooms were clean and the space was nice, however, if I'd known that it was connected to the Tommie, I wouldn't have booked the Thompson. We had to share an elevator and valet with their guests. Each of which caused delays and inconveniences. Ultimately I don't understand the benefit from booking the more expensive stay.”
A fun birthday getaway

“We had a lovely birthday weekend at the Thompson Austin thanks to wonderful staff and the beautiful accommodations in our residence studio suite on the 16th floor. The room was stunning and comfortable. We did not use the pool because it looked a bit murky, but it was crowded and a pretty space. The rooftop cantina is beautiful and staffed with helpful, charming people. Valet service was easy and smooth. Everyone was gracious and welcoming. We would stay again!”

“This is a difficult one. Its not often the experience of the hotel is shaped by the environment around it, but this is one. The hotel first: modern, clean, with all the amenities you'd expect for the rating, cant fault it. On first sight, a good location with lots going on. But there's the issue. The hotel is right next to 6th street which is a cauldron of noise from dozens of bars & clubs, late afternoon to the early hours. Maybe we were unlucky in that our stay was thurs to sunday, but it felt like every hen & stag night in Texas was out in the streets (if you're driving, beware; 6th street is cordoned off at night creating a labyrinth of one-way driving & the police will NOT let you through). We tried to escape but every bar we found had some form of ear-splitting noise loosely described as music. It even spilled over into the hotel bar where there was a DJ producing a mix of techno-latino-rap bordering on torture. I suspect there was some sort of graduation weekend going on as the pool was always mega-busy with little chance of finding any space. Perhaps you're younger, love this kind of thing and it sounds great. If so, this hotel could be ideal. On the plus side, an ideal location for a drive out to the Alamo and a short walk to the sensational Capitol building is a must if you love architecture & history.”
