Very disappointing. Had excavator operating outside our room for five of the seven days we were there, not exactly relaxing. When we spoke to the manager about it he shugged his shoulders. Our shower leaked, every time we had a shower we have water run through to the wardrobe. The wine is way over priced. The staff generally are very nice and professional. I would definitely go to Vanuatu again but would not stay at Iririki.

“The Iririki is located close to port Villa a short boat ride, the hotel has nice facilities like pools, gym, and tennis court . The breakfast is very good and the apartments were quite big ours included facilities like a stove and fridge. I think they could have a few buggies around the island to take visitors from reception to their room or even bicycles so people can exercise and move easily around the place.”

“Our family had such a lovely stay. From the moment we arrived, Max made us feel genuinely welcome and went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect for us. It’s rare to meet a manager who is so hands-on and truly cares about the guests’ experience. Every member of the team we interacted with was warm, friendly, and always happy to help with anything we needed for our stay. You could really feel that the staff enjoy what they do. The facilities were exceptional and made our family trip comfortable and relaxing. Thank you, Max, and the whole team for making our stay so special—we truly appreciated the care and hospitality.”

“We last visited Irikiki in 2017, and decided to go back to Vanuatu and stay at the same resort as we enjoyed its location to the centre of town and the ferry to and from the town was a novelty. We chose one of oceanview spa rooms this time instead of the ocean view fare. The room was spacious , clean and had a spa on the balcony. Had a nicely decorated bed to celebrate my birthday which was a nice welcome. Getting to the room was a long walk and had been sent the long way by staff. Additional signage is definitely needed beside the Kids Club to direct guests to the Sunset rooms. We ended up walking much further by missing the direct road. Pathways are uneven and full of potholes and the lighting at night is sketchy. The buggy service for guests was no longer an option that had been available the last time to get people to the different venues at the resort, especially the spa at the top of the hill. We met loads of people with mobility issues that would have been relieved to have a buggy service. The casino and karaoke room that was also there in 2017 was no longer there and was now a conference centre. It seemed a big wasted space now. The food offerings were fine and the 2 happy hours instead of the 3 previously were good. We did the sunset cruise and had a really enjoyable trip. The majority of staff were very friendly but you do need to check your bill depending on what package you have, especially as we know some people were charged for things that should have been included in their package and had to sort all of that out. Don’t leave checking out until the last minute! We still enjoyed our stay. Bed was really comfy and good aircon in the room. No issues with wifi in our room but others did have issues. It is always good to see maintenance happening around the resort but when you have a digger going for most days outside of your room most days doesn’t make for a relaxing time. Maybe communicate the schedule to the guests in the area so that can plan to be away to avoid the noise for a bit. I got quite sick and did want to spend time in the room sadly. We did report an issue to reception where by there was metal flashing/conduit that had fallen down due to the cyclone winds and was banging all night the first night. They said the would fix it but nothing changed the the rest of the week we were there. Thankfully the winds calmed down but the issue was still not fixed. Would we go back there again… undecided. I hope the management take on the feedback regarding mobility issues especially with a lot of the clientele being middle aged or over. The resort is set up for buggy access so wouldn’t take much to reinstate the service!”

“Beautiful island but difficult to walk around for the elderly. Azure restaurant was 4-5 star but the Sunset Bar had grumpy staff and a limited menu. Music hurt my tender eardrums. Staff were otherwise exceptional and helpful. Penthouse suite was very good, well appointed and comfortable. Snorkelling was average, water temperature was 29 degrees and visibility was good. Flippers were all damaged and the pontoon a bit slippery. Highly recommended for a short getaway.”

“We just had a great 4 day stay at Iririki. Just like everywhere in the Pacific (I have travelled extensively) there were minor annoyances but overall, we had a very enjoyable stay. I can't believe some of these reviews. Our overwater room was in good shape (yes there was some minor corrosion on the screen door as in one of the photos of a complainer but that was insignificant) and there was painting and renovating going on all over the place. The popular Happy Hour cocktails were excellent and reasonably priced. The gardens and surroundings were well maintained. The restaurant offerings were pretty good and if you didn't like them there was an excellent French restaurant immediately next to the frequent ferry shuttle. Travelers need to be aware that this is a large resort and the website doesn't explain the long distances and very different room types and outlooks very well. Do your research! The high density rooms facing away from town have great views but can be a long and exhausting walk. The snorkeling and pools here were good. I had feared that being so close to town the resort would be noisy and the water unclean but in fact these were not issues at all. The proximity to town was a distinct bonus compared to most of the other resorts in Vanuatu (one other resort boasts of being 30 minutes from town but is more like 50 minutes with the bad roads there). One gripe- I always object to credit charge surcharges (3.8% in this case) when we all know that just about everyone pays this way and the real merchant fee is less than half that.”

“Although Iririki Island Resort markets itself as “luxury”, this is not the case. Vanuatu is a beautiful place and so are the locals. This is a no brainer. The adventures we had there were fantastic. However, the resort lacks any competent customer service, decent food and cleanliness, to say the least. Smelly linen, wi-fi issues, being overcharged for things we did not request, but were apparently unable to be cancelled and transfers to and from the airport that proved to be an absolute shambles. Although originally paid for before the commencement of the holiday, which I had proof of, there was no resolve. In the end, we just needed to get off! I could have dealt with the under par accommodation/rooms, the many hills involved in getting to them and clear OH&S issues, knowing that Vanuatu had previously suffered a major earthquake - BUT ultimately the customer service was beyond poor for the price point. To the owners, please do better. Do your homework. Bad reviews are never at the top. Iririki is NOT value for money.”

  • 1 star – Grossly overpriced, deeply disappointing, and a masterclass in poor hospitality

    2/10

    saksheek · Friends getaway · 2026-01-30

“We booked two Deluxe Spa Ocean View Studio Rooms and one Island Fare Room at Iririki and spent over $10k expecting a premium island resort experience. What we received instead was a dated property with shockingly poor hygiene, non-existent service standards, and a hospitality experience that felt closer to a budget backpacker lodge than a luxury resort. The rooms were tired, outdated, and poorly maintained. Peeling furniture, visibly worn fixtures, and a general sense of neglect. The cleaning was well below acceptable standards - we found hair and nail clippings on the floor, dirty dishes left behind, and linen that smelt stale and unpleasant. Even after “cleaning,” the rooms were filled with body odour because they were never aired properly. Housekeeping often happened after 3 pm, which is absurd for a resort positioning itself as premium. Body wash and soap was never refilled despite requests. The decision to remove guest buggies was baffling. Guests are forced to walk long, hilly distances across the island in intense tropical heat. For families, elderly guests, or anyone expecting basic resort convenience, this is unacceptable. The food experience was another major letdown. As a vegetarian, I explicitly asked at the door whether there were suitable options before paying for the buffet and was assured there were. There weren’t. I was then charged VT 5500 for a single vegetarian dish. Breakfast offered almost no vegetarian options, no eggless breads, and the only saving grace was a kind chef who personally made me a tofu scramble each morning out of goodwill. That is not a system, that is one good person compensating for a broken one. Poolside snacks were minimal. Drinks were overpriced and mostly ice. There is no room service at all, astonishing for a resort claiming luxury status. Transfers were chaotic. Our complimentary arrival transfer didn’t even have our names listed, resulting in a 30-minute delay for an overloaded bus while staff tried to sort it out. For departure, the resort booked and charged us for paid transfers without consent, refused to cancel when we had already arranged private taxis, and then delayed that forced transfer by 40 minutes. We had to make multiple expensive calls just to ensure we didn’t miss our flight for a service we were forced to pay over $150 for. One bright spot worth calling out: the private taxis and tours we booked through the experience desk with Moana and Lavianne were excellent. The drivers were prompt, professional, and genuinely hospitable. Those experiences delivered far better service than anything we received from the resort itself and were the highlight of our stay. Across every touchpoint, the same theme emerged: The concept of hospitality and guest service is missing. This resort is charging premium prices while delivering a product and service standard completely misaligned with its positioning. Iririki urgently needs to rethink its cleanliness standards, food offering, guest mobility, transfer processes, and overall service culture. A beautiful location alone is not enough. At this price point, this experience is simply unacceptable.”

“We had a good overall stay at Iririki and enjoyed several aspects of the resort, particularly the location. The ferry ride to Port Vila is quick and easy, which made it very convenient for heading into town and trying nearby restaurants on the mainland. Our ocean view fare room was comfortable and well set up with all the expected amenities. While the room was a little dated in places, it was clean, functional, and perfectly fine for a relaxing stay. Food was generally OK, though breakfast could definitely use some improvement in terms of variety and quality. One downside was that meals and drinks were noticeably more expensive than on the mainland, and unfortunately the cocktails were a letdown. Service was also hit and miss. Staff were pleasant, but not as attentive as we’ve experienced at other resorts in Vanuatu. One thing to be aware of is that the island allows day-pass visitors from cruise ships to use the facilities. This didn’t bother us personally, but I can understand why some guests might not enjoy that aspect. There isn’t an adults only pool and very family orientated. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and don’t regret choosing Iririki, but it’s worth doing your homework and comparing with other resorts - places like the Warwick are also worth a look depending on what you’re after.”

“The best thing about Iririki is its close proximity to Port Vila (just a 2min boat ride to and from). The resort is terribly overpriced for food and drinks …so I’d recommend taking the free boat to eat out in town when and if you can. There are lots of lovely and much more affordable restaurants on shore (half the price of the resort). The resort also has 2-3 “set menu” nights per week - with no option to order off that very restrictive and expensive set menu. I wasn’t able to eat at all on these nights as I wasn’t able to leave my sleeping child alone to find other options and refused to pay $60 for a plate of food shoved in a styrofoam takeaway box. If you choose to bring your own food be aware no crockery or cutlery is provided in the rooms. The room we stayed in (Island Fare) was nice and very clean with air conditioning and a TV. The IT team did an outstanding job in helping us connect to YouTube and Netflix quickly and easily. There was very little care for the exterior of the cabin though - with our plates and glasses left to pile up in the garden bed outside our front door for 6 days straight. The lizards and ants seem to enjoy that though! Housecleaning starts early here too - with knocks on our door from 7:30-8am each day! By Australian standards this would probably equate to a 3 star hotel experience. I had to check out early due to a family emergency, and despite having told the front desk 5 days earlier was unable to negotiate any refund on the missed nights . They definitely take you for every penny. If you want to be surrounded by hoards of drunk tattooed bogan Aussies flocking to Happy Hour like greedy seagulls this is your place.”

“So it seemed like a nice enough place but we made the error of going over in a day that the cruise ship was in, we got over there and walked all the way to the restaurant for lunch to be told its residents only (which I don’t blame them for doing as the general part was thumped with people of the cruise). So if going, maybe just check that first. Otherwise from the outside the restaurant looked lovely!”

“We had a great stay at Iririki Island Resort. It’s the sort of place where you arrive, stop, drop, and genuinely relax. Limited Wi-Fi, island time, and a calm, unhurried vibe – exactly my kind of holiday. This isn’t a flashy five-star resort, and that’s part of the appeal. It feels authentic and grounded, and it’s good to support a country that’s weathered more than its fair share of cyclones and volcanic activity. Shopping is limited, but that’s not why you come here. Highlights • Unbelievably friendly staff – warm, welcoming, and genuinely lovely throughout our stay. • Two great pool areas: • The Sunset Pool & Bar for casual food, drinks, and sunsets. • The Infinity Pool near the main restaurant, perfect for daytime lounging. Each has different happy hour times, which is a nice touch. • Food: The main restaurant served consistently good meals – some nights buffet, other nights à la carte. More relaxed, takeaway-style options are available at the Sunset Bar and Pool. Food isn’t cheap, but that’s standard for an island resort. • Saturday night fire show: Fantastic and well worth sticking around for. • Accommodation: Our room (307) was excellent – top-floor apartment with beautiful water views, a small kitchen, and a fridge. Ideal for stocking up on snacks and drinks (we did a run to the mainland for cheese boards and extras). The only minor downside was the third adult bed being a child-size single. • Activities included: Free snorkelling gear, kayaks, SUPs, plus pool tables, tennis courts, and more. Easy to be active or do absolutely nothing. • Tours: The island can organise day trips and experiences if you want to explore beyond the resort. Bottom line Iririki Island Resort is the place to go if you want to properly unwind. It’s relaxed, welcoming, and unpretentious – a genuine island escape rather than a polished luxury showcase. We left rested, recharged, and already talking about coming back.”

“We enjoyed our stay outside of our room. The air con did not stay on after a couple of hours. I had it attended to twice, but it still continued to switch off. Wifi was non existent unless around the pool or dining area. Our balcony chairs had stained cushions and the recliner back was broken. The room had loose floorboards, front door out of alignment and hard to open & close. In need of renovating. The bed was comfortable. Room was clean but I had to continually ask for towels, face washers as there were 3 in the room and only supplied for 2. Being forced to eat at compulsory dinners is not welcome, we chose to go to the mainland after our experience on New Years Eve, terribly overpriced. Most staff were very friendly and tried to assist if they could. Lack of shade around the pools. Had a relaxed time although the island did not meet our expectations. No need to return.”

“Iririki Island resort is a picturesque island just off the coast of Port Vila. There's a constantly-running ferry boat which takes only a minute or two to make the crossing. First off, the island is *large* and hilly. It took us about 10 minutes to walk from our room to the restaurant in one direction, and about 5 minutes to the pool in the other direction. There's a big variety of rooms on the island, which can be broken down into the single tropical bungalow type and the apartment type. The tropical bungalow types certainly look atmospheric, but note that many of them face the Port Vila waterfront which isn't very pictureseque. If you want the best view from your balcony, the apartment rooms seem best - they face west towards the bay and ocean. We stayed in an Ocean-View apartment which was perfectly functional, if a little sparsely furnished. The bed was quite comfortable. The resort has two groups of pools. One is near the restaurant, which has a single small pool and is really aimed at a quick dip between drinks. The main group of pools is at the other end of the island, where there's four pools split over three levels with excellent views of the ocean. These are of varying depths - the top pool seems about 2 metres deep, there's a kids' wading pool, and some in-between. Interestingly, there are no signs to indicate the varying depths. We wound up telling several families with small children that there was a wading pool two levels down when they were having to mind their kids in the two-metre deep pool, as they didn't know. A sign showing the pools and their depths as you enter the pool areas would be a good idea. There are sun lounges and umbrellas, but note that the resort is very popular with cruise ship passengers when there is a cruise ship in port and sun lounges and shade do run out. We sampled some massages at the spa and can highly recommend it. There's the "Infinity Spa" which is an older, simpler building next to the Infinity Pool, and the newer "Ocean View" spa complex at the top of the island. The Ocean View complex is definitely the better, it's newly built and has a very tropical feel with an amazing view. It is a steep climb. The main restaurant, "Azure", does a decent buffet breakfast and good lunches and dinners. The signature dish had beef melting in our mouths and is definitely worth a try. It can sometimes take a while for food to arrive, but this is consistent with "Island Time". The hotel offers airport transfers but to be honest you're probably better off simply taking a taxi from the airport. It's cheaper for groups of two or more, and the transfer bus isn't "every 30 minutes" etc; it waits for everyone heading to Iririki to clear immigration and customs. One couple on our bus who were first off the plane had to wait a little over an hour for everyone else on the same transfer bus. The jewel in the crown has got to be the staff, who were universally friendly and seemed very happy. It should be said - Vanuatu is a developing country, and while blessed with amazing clean green and blue waters and beautiful sunsets, it also suffers from cyclones and the occasional earthquake. Things aren't perfect, and travellers expecting to find everything working like a Swiss clock may be disappointed, but a smile goes a long way.”

“We just returned from a week at Iririki, Overall it was a good relaxing holiday. We had Oceanview deluxe spa room #222. It overlooked snorkelling cove and Ifira Island. We had a tree that blocked some of the view but this also hide the cruise ships that stop so close to the balcony (4 ships over 4 days) that you can hear their loud speaker messages. Our room was located halfway around the island, equal distance to either pool. The spa had no step and was hard to get into, four of the jets worked well. Two chairs and a table were outside and another inside. No drying rack for outside. The dishwasher in the photos had been taken out. Overall, the room was in fair shape, with cooking utensils, hotplate, microwave, bar fridge, robes, great air conditioning and shower pressure. Tea and coffee was supplied but only powder creamer. The wifi worked well in the room, pool areas and restaurant. The room was serviced each day at varying times between 10am-5pm. Sheets changed on day four. Towels are replaced when you want but sometimes no hand towels, pool towels or face washers. Toiletries provided were two small tubes of shower gel, shampoo, two small soaps, shower cap and earbud/face wipes/nail file kit, no conditioner. These were replenished once. Yes there is a lot of walking to get to the pools, restaurants, reception and jetty. Snorkelling Cove does not have much coral or fish but nice to swim in. Walking out on their manmade jetty is slippery, use the stairs that are near the shower. The Infinity pool is small, with not a lot of deck chairs. considering there were 300 guests. It has great views but definitely is not an adults pool, lots of unattended kids. The cocktails at this bar did not contain much alcohol, while the Sunset swim up bar had great cocktails, music and good vibes. The restaurant was expensive and at times disappointing. NYE buffet was a compulsory $200 each, which we thought was great value, as it included drinks. The fireworks were impressive at 9pm and midnight. The band was ok but didn’t play much music to dance to. They have a lot of buffets, which we didn’t think were good value for the money. The steak at the Azure restaurant was disappointing being mostly fat and gristle, chips were terrible, the cheesy garlic bread was dry, the chicken Iririki and the laska were nice. The breakfast buffet had great variety. The omelettes most times took a long time but were yummy. The fire show was good (best one was at The Beach Bar). The entrance on the mainland is a poorly maintained alleyway. At high tide it floods and they put down pallets to walk on. There is no staff member there to help out with bags and guest safety. It is a busy road with no space to wait for tours or buses. We didn’t try the resorts snorkelling, sunset and cultural tours (the price now $120aud for 2 hours). The resort charges 3.8% for card payments. Overall we did enjoy our stay. All the staff were friendly, the island gardens were beautiful and the ferry was easy and always available.”

“Honestly, I was disappointed The views and people are incredible, which is something you can say about every place in Vanuatu though, the overall experience is below ideal for someone with a disability. The amenities are decent, but aging and significantly degrading. My family member could barely explore let alone get from their fare to anywhere else on the resort, because there was absolutely ZERO help/support for someone with a physical disability. While, I'm sure this place was great at some point, for what you pay, it is just not justifiable, especially if you're headed here as someone with a physical impairment”

The rooms were a shambles when we got there, no electricity, wardrobe door broken, etc.we spent the afternoon getting the room repaired. Next morning we went to see the Reservation Manager to try and get cabins close together, "wait while I fix it" he said, but 1 hour later he had still not returned. The Reception said to swap cabins, then blamed the travel agent for us being so far apart. All of the other guests we spoke to said they would never retunrn they all had problems which were never sorted out.”

“We loved our time at Iriki Island Resort. We stayed in April this year. Extremely kid/family friendly. Huge pools with one on each side of the island. Amazing gardens full of greenery and flowers. Lovely restaurant by the water that provided twice a week traditional dancing and singing show which we loved. Great activities on the island including snorkelling, kayaking and canoeing giving you lots to do. Toddler friendly playground and kids room. The staff were absolutely phenomenal and made the island the five stars we have given it. A stunning spa room up the top of the island with breathtaking views. We had two massages and walked out feeling relaxed and fresh. Everything we asked staff was supported, they were easy to speak to, accomodating and everything was effortless. The island could benefit from some updates especially the air con systems, bathrooms & common areas however this was not a deal breaker and alongside this a few things could be improved and/or fixed across the island eg, broken outside lights, exposed wires, sitting areas (most day beds broken) etc. again not a deal breaker. We had mould in our initial room everuwhere in aircons and bathrooms but they moved us to a safer room for us and our little one. We would like to say thank the following staff whom really made our holiday special; Elijah > thank you for your warm greetings each and Every time we boarded the ferry, for entertaining our child and for always being so welcoming. You really were the face of the island and made our experience pleasant. John > thank you for your wonderful hospitality and customer service at the swimming pool bar. Your warm welcomes each day. The beautiful drinks you made us and the mocktails for our toddler. Your customer service was beyond excellent and you really made our time and experience on the island enjoyable. Educator in child’s room > you are worth your weight in gold. Our toddler is a busy bee, you engaged with her effortlessly, she responded extremely well to you, unlike anyone before, she asked for “school” every day and to see “my teacher”, she loved playing with you and the toys, you singing to her and all you did. You made her first overseas holiday unforgettable, the the point she asks for you regularly now back at home. Thank you for creating a safe welcoming fun place for our little girl. To the three of you, we cannot wait to see you all again very soon! We have booked to come back in April next year yay”

“ABSOLUTELY AVOID — Worst Hotel Experience, Ruined Holiday. Avoid, avoid, avoid! Our holiday was completely ruined by staying here. As an experienced traveler (50+ countries), this was unequivocally one of my worst hotel stays ever. It is barely a 3-star motel, despite paying almost $500 per night (more than the W or Sofitel in Sydney). This hotel might have been good 20 years ago but definitely not anymore. Going by the reviews it speciality has seen a sharp decline since the new Australian owners have taken over since 2023. The biggest issue was quality of the rooms, maintenance and customer service, and the management was simply awful, non-caring, and non-apologetic. It is obvious that they are simply making too much profit to care. Our shower was completely broken—zero water flow—for two straight days, and staff ignored repeated complaints. Adding to the misery, there was constant, extremely loud construction noise from 8 am to 5 pm, non-stop. It is impossible to relax here. Our "premium" waterfront room was dirty, old and severely misrepresented by decade-old and photoshopped photos that you can see on their website. Cleanliness was a major problem; there was rubbish and hair everywhere, and dirty dishes from previous guests were left outside our room for two days. The bathrooms were visibly tired and moldy, the AC was insufficient, and we found bugs (ants and geckos). Finally, the hotel offers terrible value for money both for the rooms and the services offered. The food, including a low-quality breakfast or buffet dinners which had flies all over the open dishes, and the cheap-tasting cocktails are severely overpriced (more expensive than equivalent quality in Australia/NZ). Activities booked through the hotel were also disappointing and extremely expensive. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone and sincerely regret our decision to stay here. This is very far from a relaxing experience; staying at home and not coming here for a holiday all together is a better option.”
