My stay at The Sukhothai Shanghai was truly one of the most memorable hotel experiences I’ve had. As this was my first trip to China, I had some reservations, but the hotel made me feel at ease from the moment I arrived. I was especially touched by the thoughtful yet understated service. Housekeeping, for example, noticed my preference for keeping the bedsheets untucked and neatly made the bed without changing it back to the way most hotels do. It was such a small detail, yet it made me feel genuinely understood. I also loved the peaceful Jing’an neighbourhood, with its charming cafés, beautiful Zhangyuan, and convenient shopping and dining options, all without the overwhelming crowds of more touristy areas. The room upgrade, and the staff’s patience and encouragement as I tried to communicate in Mandarin made my stay even more special. Having stayed at many five-star hotels through frequent business trips and travels, I can honestly say The Sukhothai Shanghai stands out for its calm atmosphere, beautiful interiors, and intuitive, unobtrusive hospitality. I only wish I had stayed longer. If I return to Shanghai, I would choose The Sukhothai again without hesitation. :)
