“I first discovered Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco when my travel agent posted it on his Instagram account. It looked so fabulous that one day I said I wanted to go there.
When you look at their amazing website and see the landscape of the Tuscan hills it will be make you realize not many luxury hotels in the world can compare to it.
We were celebrating a special occasion with my family and I booked the hotel a year in advance.
I always write the Manager before I come to a new hotel to introduce myself before arriving. The correspondence that I received from Nicola Migheli- the Managing Director and Amanda Mack his Personal Assistant was the most thoughtful I have ever received in all my travels to luxury hotels.
I knew then that this stay was going to be so memorable and special. They both won the “Grand Prize” for such a lovely response to my email!
In the email Nicola wrote to me: “I would truly be honored if you wished to share a little more with me about yourself and the family members joining this beautiful journey. For us, this is always the best way to thoughtfully prepare an arrival exactly as we love to do at CdB, with personalized touches, special attentions and small surprises that can make a stay feel even more meaningful and memorable.”
That is exactly what they did, there were so many thoughtful surprises and personal touches for us. It was truly something I have never experienced before.
When you drive up the roads to the hotel nestled in the rolling hills of Tuscany it will take your breath away. It has to be some of the most magnificent scenery you will ever see.
I wrote the hotel in advance of my stay and the guest relations team planned our restaurant reservations and suggested activities. They were responsive and provided great detail.
Every morning we had a leisurely breakfast on the terrace at their restaurant Ristorante Campo del Drago with views of Montalcino’s lush hills and Val d’Orcia. There was an extensive delicious buffet and also a la carte options. My husband thought it was the best breakfast of our three week journey through Italy. The croissants and pastries were the best we ever had. The waiters were so attentive providing great service.
We ate outdoors at the hotel’s main restaurant Osteria La Canonica four nights. It was a beautiful festive atmosphere with wonderfully prepared food including pastas, steaks, fish, salads , pizza and fabulous desserts. Their chefs are so talented. Not only was it all delicious but the presentations were also lovely. The service was outstanding.
We had booked the spacious Borgo Suites with Tuscan-inspired interiors and sophisticated Italian furnishings. The one-bedroom Borgo Suite has a huge separate living area and separate bedroom. The bathrooms were luxurious with a walk-in rain shower and separate soaking bathtub. There is also an additional powder room at the entrance of the suite. The shampoos and amenities were all divine. There were two large televisions in the suite. The suite was also adorned with beautiful accessories and ornaments throughout.
All the drinks and treats ( including chocolates, cookies , snacks etc) are all complimentary in the suite. That is truly a special feature they offer.
There are two large swimming pools and one is adults only with magnificent views of the Tuscan Hills. They both have a great bar and restaurant for lunch with delicious food.
Housekeeping cleaned our suites to perfection twice a day.
Every day we found lovely gifts and treats in our suite.
Some of my family members loved using the e-bikes to ride on the property which is 5,000 acres.
They also had a wine tasting at their famous Winery on the property. The hotel offers so many activities that can keep you busy for weeks!
The hotel is about 20 minutes away from the lovely village of Montalcino which we enjoyed walking the town, visiting the shops and went to dinner there one evening.
Be sure to have a treatment at their beautiful spa . My husband and I had Facials and their therapists were fabulous. I recommend booking in advance.
How do I sum up our 5 night stay at Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco? If you are looking for a magnificent resort in Italy with breathtaking views, set amid the picturesque Tuscan countryside , gorgeous accommodations, delicious dining options, extraordinary attentive service then you must come! It is truly Magical and Paradise! It is absolutely one of my favorite hotels in our 45 years of staying at luxury hotels throughout the world!
Thank you Nicola and Amanda for all you did for our family to make us feel like royalty. Rosewood is sure lucky to have both of them representing the hotel.
My 11 year old grandson even said it was his favorite hotel of our three week Italy journey.
The hotel has won so many awards including- Number 1 Best Resort in Europe and Number 1 in Italy by Travel and Leisure Magazine, earning 3 Michelin Keys from the Michelin Guide, and also holding a 5-Star Rating from the Forbes Travel Guide.
We will have memories that will last a lifetime! We can’t wait to come back!

“Rosewood CdB is easily one of the prettiest places I’ve ever stayed. The views are unreal, the food and wine were amazing every single day, and the staff really went out of their way to take care of us.
Also, if you play tennis, definitely book a hit with coach Francesco Pace. He kept the drills energetic and fun. Couldn’t have asked for a better stay or a better hit in Tuscany!”

“My wife, nine-year-old daughter, and I stayed here for four days. It was, in a word, perfection. Located on a hill opposite of Montalcino overlooking Val d’Orcia, it was the best service we’ve had - ever. From the guest relations staff to the dining staff to the housekeeping staff to the spa staff, to a person, our experience was exceptional.
We stayed in a Terrace Suite which is large enough for a long stay. The staff helped us rent a car to explore Montalcino and beyond.
Quiet and relaxing, the infinity pool overlooks the valley. The entire resort was quiet and restful, and very relaxing.
If you’re asking - it’s ten stars. If you want a relaxing week in Tuscany with exceptional service, stay here.”

“Very nice property that attempts to elevate every area (meaning that they try very hard to justify a uniquely expensive stay). It is a remote location so you are not walking into a town. Which can be a positive or negative depending on your perspective.
It is nice to be at a beautiful infinity pool looking at Tuscan hills with few other guests with you. But is it the experience that i am looking for when in Italy paying this much money? Lots of of youngish guests that were staying for a night or two - likely so that they can say that they stayed at this top property.
It is of course a beautiful place and I would never suggest that it is a property that I would refuse to experience. Would I go back for these prices - no, I would not. But if money is no object and value is not a driver, this is a beautiful spot and worth a couple of nights en route to Florence. And if money is really no object, stay in a house for a week and relax in Tuscany.”

“Pros:
Pools - 2 large nice outdoor pool areas (1 adult, 1 family) with great views of rolling hills
Food - great quality casual dinner restaurant but should have more daily specials for people staying longer that don't eat a lot of the seafood/meat options
Service - attentive bell/front desk/customer service staff and pool/wait staff and housekeeping staff, concierges/front desk answered whatsapp messages promptly and helped with planning or if needed something sent to room
Breakfast - huge amazing breakfast buffet and chef custom-made pancakes and waffles with toppings inside less dense
Cons:
Gravel Roads/Trails - unpaved gravel roads/trails for 15min or so to/from property and within property to get around, **have to be very careful driving since roads not level and not enough space for 2 cars so can easily get rocks in wheel/tire and leak air unless you drive right in the middle slowly
Understaffed - many times pool had only 1 person serving for everything towel/chair service and taking orders, didn't turn-over chairs after people left, never came to chairs for drinks had to go up and order, pool chefs overwhelmed took 45min for basic salad and nobody there
AC functioning issues - rooms not well-ventilated so wouldn't cool below 70 without fan on high which is loud so didn't sleep well
Limited Carts - only had couple carts for entire property and not enough bell/valet staff/carts to take you around if you are older/not able to walk far and room is far its a problem or to get too/from adult pool
Grounds under-maintained - deer poop along trails, hedges/weeds not trimmed in front of pool blocked view”

“The hotel is excellent, the location is a bit remote but it takes a while to understand and really experience the quietness of Tuscany. The breakfast and the food in general is superb. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the reaction time when you want something is so quick which creates a very strong sense of luxury. The only thing is that spa is very small so you have to book in advance. And also you would need a car to go nearby places if you are staying for a long time.”

“Just magical. The long, winding track leading to Castiglion Del Bosco brings you into it’s dream world, a bubble where every detail is so splendidly perfect it’s hard to imagine anything better.
After a long day of travelling with our 2 year old we relaxed immediately when we were warmly welcomed to the hotel and realised we had arrived somewhere extraordinarily special. We were lucky enough to meet Babbo Natale in his beautiful Christmas house on the way to our room which made our little man very happy and set the tone for the rest of our enchanting stay.
The setting is spectacular, nestled amongst serene forests filled with wildlife. Spotting Santa’s reindeer one misty morning added to the Christmas magic.
This is a very family friendly hotel and so much thought has been put into creating wonderful experiences for families - from the entertainment and activities put on to bring families together, the provisions in the rooms (toys, balloons, sweets, toiletries etc) and the restaurant staff who perfectly anticipated our needs (eg having the highchair ready at our favourite table when we arrived for dinner and immediately preparing his pasta). It's rare to find a place where you can be surrounded by such luxury and feel comfortable for your 2 year old to run around behaving like a 2 year old! He was even welcomed to come along for our wine tasting where he was provided with colouring and a selection of juices to taste.
Every member of staff we met was helpful, warm, sincere and treated us like family. Rooms, food and facilities were all outstanding. Noteworthy was the outdoor swimming pool which had been covered by an impressive marquee structure which made the pool completely usable (and very warm) during the winter months.
We absolutely loved our stay and I can't wait to return. My only complaint is that we had professional photos taken with Santa but the hotel seems to have lost them. I am quite upset that we never got to see them as my son loved meeting Santa and posed beautifully for the photos.”

Service was impeccable. We also loved the pizza making class and massages at the spa. You must do the private wine tasting which was included in our stay.”
